Is this a joke? I sometimes wonder how familiar people are with Pearl Jam. This isn't very different from many tunes they have recorded before.

No kidding, this song sounds more rocking than some stuff "Pearl Jam" ie Unemployable

If only PJ remembered how to write songs half as epic as Muse does... alas, they haven't done that in a decade.

But this does sound ok. I'm not sure what to expect from this album. I've been addicted to Gaslight Anthem and Against Me lately and I get the feeling it's going to be kinda like that. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's not wonderful either. Both those bands do that style better and more convincingly than PJ would I think. But we'll see what comes out.

I just realized you're the dude with the awesome youtube page. Interesting...Muse? Ok. I gotta admit that you're letting me down.

liking this song more than the others we've heard from Backspacer so far... reminds me of The Ramones and maybe The Cars even. not really sure what's got into Ed with all the "yeah yeah"'s on this new record however

exactly... they've been on a downward spiral since Absolution. first 2 albums are still my favorite. they sound like a nu-metal-esque version of Queen instead of like Bends-era Radiohead like when they started out.

black holes and revelations is my favorite album from them! they intentionally wanted to distance themselves from radiohead as matt has repeatedly stated in many interviews

anyways...enough about muse! thanks ben for setting this off-topic lol

    Muse? Gaslight Anthem?

Sometimes its very helpful to know what other people see as current good music so I can ignore future comments. Not completely trying to be a jerk, but come'on Muse!? Gaslight Anthem!?

PSA: There are other bands out there besides Pearl Jam. Also, people have different opinions on certain types of music.

    My 2 thoughts:
    1. I think it is great. Reminds of Big Wave or a Creedence song.
    2. It hardly sounds like Ed singing.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river

I hear ya (I like plenty of other music) but I would not trust the musical opinion of anyone who puts bands like Muse and Gaslight Anthem in the same ballpark as pearl jam. Therefore, I don't value your opinion on Supersonic. Just the way it is.

Really? As long as I knew someone was open-minded about their music, I'd value their opinion.. unless they told me they're a big Spice Girls fan.

And what do you listen to, oh final arbiter of all good music whose tastes are unquestionable? No need to try when it comes so naturally.

Pray tell, where did I put them in the same ballpark? I said Muse rocks in an anthemic way like PJ used to, until they kept trying to sound like Gaslight Anthem, who are good in a mindless sort of way. PJ's recent output doesn't even have that going for it.

So, Mr. Cool, how about you put your favorite bands out there so we can all rip them apart and use them to dismiss your thoughts from now on... or do you find it much easier to take potshots at others without ever having to put your own tastes out there to be subjected to the same kind of criticism?

It's not my thing yet.. sounds like a bubblegum pop song with Eddie instead of Miley Cyrus to me. I'm sure in due time, and once I've heard the whole thing, that'll change though!
    Are you serious????

First thought to enter my mind was the Ramones, or Buzzcocks..

If I didn't know any better, I would think it was a Ramones cover..

What is wrong with you people? Pearl Jam writes a few upbeat happy songs and they get compared to crap? This is totally 80s punk sounding!
