yeah, I will take a ride on the deal stallion and choose Portland downtown, 4 star when I name my price.
    ;) I think I will start at $51 :D

Definitely! If you want to visit and experience Portland (even for just a day) downtown is the place to stay. If you have a flight that gets you in late afternoon, and your leaving early the next morning, then you'd probably want to stay out by the airport. It's also short hop from the airport to the venue on I-205.

Thanks for the tip on the YES program. At least the show is on a Saturday, no dreaded I-5 north traffic. For those of you who cannot achieve "YES" status (having at least 4 people in your vehicle) I would recommend spending the money for the premier parking. Otherwise you will spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to get out of the venue.

thanks for the reminder on the 4 people in your car thing! I had forgotten that and have amended that post to correctly reflect that.

Premier Parking is always a great option if you don't have more than 4 people. Luckily my Sister lives 1/2 a mile on the other side of the freeway, so I'll just be parking there and walking over.

But if you're driving down from Seattle and driving back that night get Premiere Parking so you can get going a lot quicker. There's nothing worse than to start out a 2 1/2 hour drive by sitting in parking lot traffic for an hour or more before.

Is there camping near by? I am coming from Spokane and would like to crash before the drive home. Any other suggestions on cheap or free places to camp or stay? thank you so much and take care of each other.

  • Hey:

How is the amphitheater as far as venues go? I just moved to Portland. The pictures make it look pretty good, I love outdoor venues.

It is newer so it's pretty nice and clean. Sound is good. If you're back a ways on the lawn, you won't be able to see anything on the stage. Which I guess is true of any place. :D There are a couple of big screens though so you can watch those at least. the back of the amphitheater is surrounded by a huge brick wall which I suppose helps keep the sound in. You need a wrist band to get beers. Be sure to get that first if you're doing that because eventually that line gets kinda long.

Food choices inside are terrible and those lines are way too long, imo and of course, beers expensive. And as I mentioned, getting in and out is a gigantic clusterfuck.

I'm getting some info for you about camping. You would still have to drive to that camp ground, but it's about 10 minutes away is all.

After Kelly Curts' recent statement about the band prefering arenas to amphitheatres I'm surprised they are playing here instead of the Rose Garden. Especially in late September when the weather might not be that great.

Paul Allen still owns the Rose Garden.

    fyi fellow negotiators...

I just tried to Priceline using the following criteria and failed. Just wanted to help establish the floor and this way, I think I can try again in two days when tickets drop.

    area: downtown
    class: 4star
    Price: $49

    no dice.

The one good thing about the Clark County Amp. in regards to bad weather, is that most of the entire seating area has a roof. So if it is raining, it's only going to be a problem for those on the lawn.

Why is that a bad thing? Paul Allen is a civic hero in Seattle.

And it surprised me because obviously the band loves playing The Gorge Amphitheater, being they played there three times in a years span. So, maybe just because the band prefers arena's, that doesn't mean they don't like amphitheaters.

Thank god he bought it back.

I don't know why Ed doesn't like him. He saved Jimi's music, built the emp, bought the Seachickens and the Trailblazers!?!?!?

He always makes a comment about him when he plays at the Rose Garden.

I do and it sucks because I've had AIC cancel on me twice and then Layne died. Now I finally have tickets at a good venue and now PJ plays.

That is the shitty part about the saturday show, unless PJ starts early. I think AIC won't take the stage until 11 or so.

Some people just hate him because he's so rich and at one point owned ticketmaster. They seem to forget he spent millions to buy and keep the Seahawks in Seattle and he pretty much built the Rose Garden with most of his money or loans taken by his company to keep the Blazers here. We all know what happened to the Sonics and it could have easily happened here to the Blazers if it wasn't for Paul. I don't think you can fault the guy for co-founding Microsoft. Well, I guess you can if you're a PC and not a Mac...
