People don't half get upset by Bono so he must be doing something right. I'm a massive U2 fan along with PJ and just tend to ignore some of his preaching but at the same time realising his contribution to good and just causes should not be underestimated. I really don't understand the arguement that Bono should just give all his money to charity just because he's rich, a rather bizarre concept and idea. No one knows how much he actually gives and what effect his badgering of world leaders has made but it beats sitting on your arse and not doing anything if these are causes you believe passionately in. if you read about Bono, he, more than anyone, knows how much of a twat he can look sometimes and contrary to what a lot of people seem to think he doesn't take himself that seriously. Yes he has a massive ego but hey 'rock star in ego shock' who would have thought it. Did anyone see ZOO Tv? That was one long exercise in taking the piss out of themselves and other like them.

i guess he's an easy target but i wouldn't get yourself too worked up about it.
  • i was actually thinking this might happen in Philly. That Rock and Roll hall of fame thing is just up the road in NY the same week and U2 is playing it.

Selfishly, I hope not. While i totally repspect Bono and that band, I am not a huge fan.
Those undecided,........ Needn't have faith to be free
And those misguided, There was a plan for them to be
Now you got both sides Claiming killing in Gods name
But God is nowhere,..... To be found, conveniently

    What goes on?
  • that south park bono piece of crap episode is sum funny shit

We at the Famous Rolling Stones messageboard, Shidoobee, have implored Stones fans to use all of their "Shidoobee Karma" to wish a messy breakup of U2 and no further public appearances from Bono. We'd like him to also sell all of his future publishing rights to Alphonso Soriano as he has proven recently that he can't make a "hit" anymore.

We ask the "Jammers" to join us in this crusade to rid our ears of any further filth from that skid mark Bono.

    I thank you for time.
There's Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Robert Johnson......and then everybody else.
  • Whilst I agree that Bono has done a lot of good I do find it massively offensive that his charity donations alway find there way into the press. This to me is really bad taste and there are very easy ways to keep your donations private if you want to. Anyone that doesn't is surely bringing attention to just how 'good' you are. I think if he was really wanting to do it with the right intentions it would be kept private.

Plus I agree with the many other people on here. Flying 3 very heavy and sizable stages across the world is just wasteful. There is no need for it, they've gone on about how there are a certain amount of 'cheap' tickets for each show but if they really wanted to keep ticket prices down for fans they would just go up on a simple stage and play, like our beloved PJ do. Using massive stages etc is just another way to get in the press and make more money for the U2 corporation. I just think it's too over the top, a great band doesn't need gimmicks, just instruments and a love of what they do.

Foe me he can do as much good as he wants but it doesn't mean he isn't a twat.

U2 rocks and try to make the world a better place. I am glad there are a lot of people who hate him otherwise the shows would be sold out even faster! 8-)

Wish I was at the Hawaii show in 2006 with Pearl Jam & U2 at the same show!

I heard a story from a guy after the PJ SBE gig about how Hewson played a big stadium in Scotland and went on one of his rants, saying how when you clap once every two seconds, some child dies (which is a very sad thing of course) in the world. Apparently he went on and on about this and the next thing is that all the Scottish fans just gave him the slow hand clap, which I think is pretty funny. He stands up for big issues but you don't want to be preached to that extend when you are having a night out.
    :D Rock on!!!! :D
Seen Pearl Jam 4 times in London, once in Manchester, as well as an Eddie show at Hammersmith.

well you heard the story wrong. He said, every time I click my fingers a child dies and someone shouted out 'well stop clicking your f**kin fingers then. Probably an urban myth though. Nice you know Bono's real name, well done.

My wife asked me to attend a U2 show a few years back with her. I was so disgusted, (as was she) that we left our fourth row seat half way through...vomiting in our mouth the entire time.

Well when you talk crap like you do I'm not surprised.

You must live a very sheltered life to be so easily upset.

    Hope you brushed your teeth.
  • I'm really taken aback by some of the sentiments towards Bono here. Strange how people can see such polar opposite things in a person, based on what they "know" of them. We really don't know them, so how can anyone definitively state that he's this or that? I know that I have had my experiences with he, and Ed, and I'm hugely impressed with how nice both of them are.

It seems Bono is very candid about himself. I think his activism comes from deep in his heart (and there's got to be a lot of charitable works he's done that doesn't get reported on). As for the shows, no, an artist doesn't need any kind of "gimmick", but there's nothing at all wrong with choosing to visually enhance a show, be it on a small scale, or large. It can add to the experience.

I went to ten U2 shows last tour, up front for most. (So much for charging too much for a show, as a ticket didn't cost much more than some band merchandise). It was definitely an experience. I personally feel a deep connection to their music. Pretty much all of it. Either it hits you, or it doesn't, I guess.

And all artists possess overdeveloped egos.
