Here's a question for whoever... How far do you have to be from your girl/guy for it to be conisidered "LD"? An hour away? A day away? I had a little debate about this with my guy...
id say anything more than a 2 hour drive is LD... you could do that every weekend pretty reasonably/affordably... anything more would be tricky

Hmmm... so a "weekend" relationship isn't a LDR? I thought an LDR was basically when you don't live in the same town/can't see each other "whenever" but have to "plan" it... interesting!
when you're spending a couple of days here and there - it's always gonna be rosy ... at some point tho - situation has gotta change and so there is waaaay more stuff to think about ...
thats huge. in one way, i dont think LDRs are any harder than any other relationship, as long as the trust is there. my boyfriend of 3 1/2 years and i have been long distance for most of that .. but its not really that big of a deal because i dont worry about what he's doing behind my back .. and i certainly dont want to be with anyone else so its worth it ..
BUT. when we are together, for a weekend or a week here or there, we're on such a high from being able to see each other that we rarely show our bad sides.
when he finally does move down here i want to get married right away, whereas he wants to wait it out a bit and make sure we can actually stand being together every day. he is definitely the smarter one.

so i've been in a weekend relationship AND a long-distance one. i thought they were both ld...hmmm. :?

You guys are very right...it's all the in-between stuff that is missing, which stinks. and, when you finally are together for a LONG period of time, it's such an adjustment for both of you.
I think a long distance relationship is one where you can't get to the person within a few hours if you really had to. That was one of the hardest things about being so far apart...knowing that if something horrible happened to Tim it would take me at least 30+ hours to get to him. Overseas relationships have the added complication of immigration issues...nothing like the government telling you how often you can see each other and for how long
We were together for 2.5 years before living with each other permanently and it really hasn't been that much of an adjustment. That may be because when we DID see each other it was for weeks at a stretch because our time together was so few and far between. But even on the phone you still experience the other person's daily stresses, etc. I guess the whole point is not to just show them the rosy side, but to let them know all of you, including who you are on your worst days. We definitely had a lot of fun on our visits...but the time apart really mirrored "regular" life together in a lot of ways.
"I need your strength for me to be strong...I need your love to feel loved"
I'm in one, granted it's only 2.5 hours drive and not cross country or anything. The key is that people have to be secure and trusting. I get to see my SO every other week due to work but we always try to do something fun and keep things fresh until one of has a good opportunity to be where the other is permanently.
my LDR won't be LD anymore after mid-December...scary yet exciting at the same time!!
Excellent!

it will be excellent...and a big adjustment! Lots of new beginnings...
Are you the one relocating or is he?
I am--I'm moving back East, closer to my family :-) I'll be within a 2.5 hour drive of my whole family, as opposed to the 5 hour flight now. It's also a move that I've wanted to do for a LONG time now.

That's good. Sounds like a win win situation for ya.
