Just bought Cold Roses and holy fucking shit...what an album. I've had Come Pick Me up and Desire for ages but never got around to the rest of his stuff for whatever reason. Wow I've been missing out.

  • i have posted this before but it bears repeating.

Stephen King said this about Ryan: I won’t say Adams is the best North American singer songwriter since Neil Young…but I won’t say he isn’t either.

The imagery and his lyrics themselves are pretty stunning.
  • buy the entire catalogue.

Love is Hell is my personal favorite. Shadowlands. This House is not For Sale. World War 24.

I think in the future more and more you will see Ryan's name on lists of top lyricists. He may not be the all time champ, but he certainly is among the best living songwriters

I think I will. Anyone ever see 'Desire' on West Wing? Amazing.

+1 on Love is Hell. I love the Follow the Lights EP as well. I initally bought it to hear the Down in a Hole cover but the whole EP is great.

Cold Roses is easily one of the best albums of this decade. He truly pulled off a great double album...unlike some other doubles albums as of late.

I agree Love is Hell is the best album. I think it's funny Lost Highway told him he couldn't release it when he first make it

Blossom is such a beautiful song... However, my favourite off that album is 'How Do You Keep Love Alive'.

DESIRE is a great track I absolutely love Follow The Lights.. Down in the Hole cover is so great and the Dear John version is better than the original. The wonderwall cover on Love Is Hell is much better than the original also.

Heartbreaker & Love is Hell are my favorites.

He's still very young. I'm hoping he eventually begins recording again. Definitely my favorite singer-songwriter of the last decade.

People who know me know that my two greatest musical passions are Pearl Jam and Ryan Adams. On my right arm, I have the stickman tattoo and on the left arm i have the 'neon rose' symbol from Cold Roses and JCN.

The man is an absolute genius. Heartbreaker, Gold, Demolition, Rock n Roll, Love Is Hell, Cold Roses, Jacksonville City Nights, 29, Easy Tiger, Follow The Lights, Cardinology, the old Whiskeytown stuff - all so, so good!!
Then there's the 'lost albums' that you can easily track down online - The Suicide Handbook, 48 Hours, etc. Legend has it that he even recorded the whole of 'Is This It' by The Strokes in a bluegrass style!

I could write about the guy all day, I really could...

just bought 'Gold'. Where does it rank among his stuff?
  • DeckDeck Posts: 76
Gold is probably his most successful, since it contains New York, New York and When the Stars Go Blue.

It's also one of this best.

Few people have mentioned Jacksonville City Nights which I think is a great album. It's a bit more country influenced. It would be hard for me to rank them in order but my favorites are:

    Cold Roses
    Gold
    Heartbreaker
    Jacksonville City Nights
    Easy Tiger
    Cardinology
    11/22/93 Little Rock
    07/02/98 St. Louis
    10/12/00 Kansas City

I am in complete agreement, but he's not the guy who usually sits around for 4 years crafting a record. The guy is one of the most prolific artists of our time. He ALWAYS has a new record coming out. So I think its only a matter of time before the new record comes out.
