I'd rather have Ted Leo than Ben Harper.

They just need to allow Ted Leo to make sure his sound is good. He's meant for smaller clubs so, and I'll admit, his sound got lost in the vastness of MSG ... but know this, Ted Leo ROCKS!

Bad Religion is a sweet opener too.

Everyone ... be happy ... PJ shows soon. 8-)

Maybe he sounds better in a small club but he just did not sound good to me last year.

fully admit his sound was lost in MSG (see earlier post).

He posted on his site back during these shows there were some technical issues ... perhaps they learned a lesson.

My point, don't tell people not to check them out ... take a listen for yourself.

I think I read somewhere on here that Jeff is the one picking out some of these newer bands to open up. If it's good enough for Jeff, it's good enough for people around here to at least give a chance.

Both openers are fantastic. I myself am going to Toronto, and while TL and the gang weren't the best last year, I think they'll redeem themselves.

The guys must like them if they're getting the invite again.

  • I really disliked Ted Leo before the show in D.C. last year. And I've generally found redeeming qualities in almost every opening band I've seen, though I didn't like the guy who opened in Pittsburgh before the 2006 show and was bored to death by P.J. Harvey before a U2 show a few years back.

I'm just hoping to see someone different in Philly than Ted Leo. I discovered Kings of Leon while they opened for U2 and Ben Harper when he opened for Pearl Jam back in '98 at the Meadowlands. I guess that's why I'm a fan of opening bands: some will click and some won't. It's usually fun discovering new music.

Bad Religion opened for PJ the first time I saw them in 1995. There is some kind of weird symmetry here... But what does it reveal?

Yeah, my first full PJ show was in Sacramento in 1995 and Bad Religion opened. I had seen PJ the year before at Bridge School, but Sac was my first full show. This is kind of cool, even though I'd rather see Ben Harper again. Saw him open for PJ in 95 in San Jose, been a fan ever since. I don't hate Bad Religion but I don't care for them much either.

Saw Religion open for PJ at Milwaukee's Summerfest in 1995.
Haven't seen em since. It will be 14 years since then,by the time
    these chicago shows roll around.

Maybe Thunder & Lightning will show up again,so i can relive the
    whole summerfest show again ;)

Saw Bad Religion open for them back in '95 too and was pretty let down. There was more than one time when people around me stopped and asked the people they were with, "Didn't they play this one already?" I had to agree that their music really did seem to strangely start sounding like it was on repeat.... but, I'll take it over the screeching of Sleater-Kinney any day. :)

Seriously? Man, actually an opener I enjoyed. Anyhow, I know they are trailblazers ans such but thank god it's not the Buzzcocks at least.

The Ted Leo hate is pretty annoying... Obviously we're all entitled to our own opinions but Ted is a very talented musician... I guess he gets a bad rap w/ PJ fans b/c his sound set up on the 08 PJ tour was for shit... I've seen him live in small venues and it's simply amazing.. his albums are great too... do what you wish before the shows but don't knock on the guy just because his sound was f'd up.

It's all subjective...still I'd trade Bad religion for Ted in a heartbeat.

  • Ive seen Bad Religion on their own tours quite a few times, awesome, awesome shows. Will probably be a bit different with a PJ crowd though.

Im just so fucking happy because i love Bad Religion but always pass up going to see them cause they rarely do headlining tours...they are always on stupid Warped tour and are usually the only good band on the tour anymore.

I am beyond extatic for Bad Religion as an opener for Chicago shows! I am so glad that "teo and his geeks band" is not opening any of the shows I'm attending.

R7 and Bad Religion.....God, am I in heaven or what!? :D
I have no patience for bad music and stupid people...
