  • Why not. It seems like they are pursuing every promotional lever possible. Good call.
  • I just can't see them agreeing to do it. Far too corporate and when have Pearl Jam ever done anything like that just to get publicity? It's not going to happen. The half time show is for corporate sell outs like U2. I could see Green Day doing it though!

PJ are a middle of the road band and no where near fit the category for anything like a superbowl half time show. Target is one thing but if PJ ever played the superbowl I'm out!
I'm just flying around the other side of the world to say I love you

I hope that they do, just for the fact that only really big names play it. And it would show all others that think they are gone and haven't been good since the mid 90s that they still rock just as hard.

On the other hand, the bad thing about the Super Bowl half time show, and most other "Live" TV performances of that size. They are all track acts, with the exception of the vocals and sometimes a guitar. I work with the audio guys that run that show on other events, and the "what was live, what was track" talk always comes up.

I think the only one who wasn't tracked like that was U2. I believe it was a stipulation that they did the show the way they wanted to and not fake it.

With a "poppier" new album, a mainstream campaign for record sales (Target), a re-issuing of previous albums, and a tour planned for 2010, now seems like the perfect time for "The Pepsi Halftime Show starring Pearl Jam". It seems like they are really trying to reach a bigger audience and I can't think of a better way to do that. I also can't seem to think of any other big name artists out there who have not done that halftime show.

Don't say its impossible, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and U2 have all done it and PJ or Eddie have played shows with all of them.

I'm not sure what I think of the idea, but I could see it happening.

also i heard that the Eagles had turned down a performance at the Grand Ole Opry so that they can play the SB. Something about being on that show, you cant do any other major event for about a year

I remember Alan Cross saying something to the effect of: "Each Pearl Jam album has sold less records than the album previous, with the exception of one." I believe he is referencing Vs. and Ten. With that consistent trend, do we really expect Superbowl #s?.

I don't think that statement is accurate. I'm pretty sure the latest billboard article mentioned that avocado out sold Riot Act. I'm also fairly certain that ten outsold vs and yield outsold no code. Unless Cross was talking about first week sales, where vs will always be king.

On the point made by the original poster, I agree that the band would probably agree to doing it now which I don't think was true before. So many bands they clearly respect have done it and if it got to that point they would insist on doing it their way (as someone already said U2 did).

On NFL network last year shortly after the game Jim Mora Sr (Playoffs?!?) was asked who he'd like to see play the halftime show and he said Pearl Jam. His son, headcoach for the Seahawks is a big fan of the band.
