I prefer the second half of the record except for Big Wave. The only song I really enjoy from the first half is Severed Hand. Comotose is good too, but not a fav.

this record has some really great songs in my opinion. but it also has some songs that i tend to skip over when they come on. i absolutely love "Marker", but can't stand "Big Wave". and unlike some people, give me "Parachutes" over "Gone" any day.
I'm sorry, but it's hard to defend this album.. Cheesy, generic songs and bad mixed..
and please, let's stop this bullshit that if you don't like Avocado or one of their new songs, you only like ten, vs and vitalogy..
Thats not true at all. Avocado is most like their first three albums. It's their first aggressive album since Vitalogy. A lot of people who gave up after Vitalogy got back into them with Avocado. The band has even made comments that it was comparable Vs.
That said, besides the shitty mix, Avocado is my favorite album.
I still really like this album and it was released within a day or so of when my daughter was "conceived" so it will always have a special place in my heat.
Songs like "World Wide Suicide" and "Severed Head" even come close to recreating the hard rock thrills of the band's billion-selling debut, Ten."
I'd be disgusted, but do any of us expect anything more from E!?
E! is horrible and that misspell is egregious but their not completely off-base with that. "Life Wasted" and "Severed Hand" especially sound like they could have come from the 1991-1995 era Pearl Jam. When I first heard Life Wasted I said "Now that's a Pearl Jam song!". Weak mixing aside I thought everyone thought Avocado was great. Wasn't that the general consensus among fans and critics alike? What's with all the retroactive bashing?
P.S. Big Wave is awesome. Best guitar tone on the record.
So this life is sacrifice...

i definitely saw this album as a return to the 90s. after binaural and riot acts first singles, wws felt incredibly fresh and i truly was hearing a new song from my favorite band.
To say that this album is to "catchy and poppy" is ignorant. What about Inside Job is "poppy"? It's 7 minutes long, it has an amazing build to it, and it's a very solid song. This album is filled with solid songs from top to bottom, there's nothing catchy or "poppy" about it at all.
Someone said that Come Back was an attempt at Black 2; I couldn't disagree more. It's an amazing song with depth and emotion. They aren't trying to remake Ten, and they don't have to. Avocado is a perfect imitation of Pearl Jam being Pearl Jam.

...is it so wrong to think that love can keep us safe?
