Totally agree, but I'm not sure that its the Ten era that is the problem, I'm from that era and for me I love Ten, Vs, Vitalogy, No Code, I like Yield, and then Binaural and Riot Act I have never held as highly but Avacado for me was right up there with Ten, Vs and No Code (my favs)
Don't get me wrong, I think there are truly great songs on every album, but I like to listen to an album as a whole and Avacado hits all the right spots for me.
I love : Green Disease, Life Wasted, World Wide Suicide, Comotose, Marker, GONE! Favorite!, Come Back makes me cry everytime I hear it, and Inside Job. I don't understand what's not to like.

Green Disease is on Riot Act. I love the Avocado and it's probably my most played PJ album to date. There's nothing on it not to like. My 2 favourites are Army Reserve and Marker in the Sand. I've heard the whole album live except for Parachutes.
+1. Perfect wording.
Life Wasted
World Wide Suicide
Severed Hand
Unemployable
Gone
Wasted Reprise
Army Reserve
Come Back
Inside Job
I really feel like those are the strongest three songs Pearl Jam has ever finished an album with.
Sammi: Wanna just break up?
But the first 5 songs, absolutely awesome, Severed Hand, a masterpiece, live and on the album, the intro rocks, lyrics rock, solo rocks!
Pearl Jam bootlegs:

Severed Hand
Parachutes
Comatose
Life Wasted
this album hasnt really grown on me like the others, but its ok. the first half has some nice straightforward rockers that, if nothing else, are fun live. i dont like the entire second half of the album (except maybe Wasted Reprise). musically, its safe and adult contemporary. lyrically, it sounds like Ed is singing articles he is reading in a newspaper.
I'm sorry, but it's hard to defend this album.. Cheesy, generic songs and bad mixed..
and please, let's stop this bullshit that if you don't like Avocado or one of their new songs, you only like ten, vs and vitalogy..
I personally think Binaural is a hugely underrated masterpiece, and Riot act don't get the love it deserves..
but man, avocado is their worst album, I understand one can have different tastes in music, but avocado.. stinks
One of my favorites too. Brought me back into the fold, which I left after Vitalogy. Glad it did, because I love all their albums now.

Troubled Souls Unite
Severed Hand
Come Back
Best three song set on any album since No Code (imo)
Life Wasted is the first "rocker" that I'm truly pumped about when its played in concert since "Hail, Hail" - in fact you can hear me in the background screaming on the boot from Grand Rapids after they play it....
gone & army reserve are my 2 favorites.
I'm going to have to agree with you on that. Avocado was an album long time coming. They were really trying to nail the live performance aspects into their studio work in a way that hasn't been attempted since Vs. Unlike Vs., self-titled flawlessly incorporates the brashness of punk to give it more urgency. Since Matt Cameron started playing with them in '98, I've felt their live sound reached an all-time high. Avocado showcases that sound front to back.
Anyway... there are some awesome tracks on the avacado... life wasted, severed hand, marker, parachutes, army reserve, come back and inside job are all great! the album has a sort of urgency that a lot of people were clamouring for after the more laid back nature of parts of riot act... (or at least that's the noises that were being made when it came out) The rockers on the album are a lot of fun... and really fantastic live... check out the first three songs off imagine in cornice! and come back and inside job are fantastically emotional as closers of the album!
The production lets it down slightly for me though... kasper just isn't as good as brendan o'brien (although i love the way riot act sounds) I think it stands up well with the rest of the back catalogue and it was the album they needed to make after four years away (from making studio albums)
