BBC 6 Music lay into The Fixer
Don't know if any of you in the UK heard Steve Lamacq's show on BBC 6Music last night but at 6pm every Thursday they do a feature called The Round Table. They look at all the new releases and get experts and users of the chatroom to vote on new songs by various bands.
Last night's turn, to my amazement, was Pearl Jams! The Fixer came on and unfortunately it didn't get a great thumbs up. Some comments from the chatroom said things like:
* I know we are in a recession but do we have to bring Grunge back?
* This sounds too cheery to be Pearl Jam
* The drums are lost in the mix
The song got a 5/10 from everyone. Use the listen again option to hear them rant and rave at http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/shows/roundtable/

Seen Pearl Jam 4 times in London, once in Manchester, as well as an Eddie show at Hammersmith.

You don't need to be an expert to know that The Fixer isn't a very good song.
i think it's one of the best songs they've ever written. it almost makes everything else theyve done sound cheesy. and isn't that the idea of backspacer?
ps
grunge was a label made up by idiots like the BBC experts.

What might not sound good to ones ears, could sound amazing to someone elses ears....
As for me, i think its a GREAT single for THIS album....
Nothing more than a bunch of self important clowns circle jerking their egos.
Reminds me of watching those useless half-brights on The Iron Chef claiming to be food experts.
You can bascially sit anyone down at the table with an empty belly and a fork and watch them stuff their fat faces and shoot their mouths off like they actually know what the fuck their talking about.
What a joke.
"Umm...Perhaps a little more salt would spice things up".
Experts my ass
Cheerio.
i agree mach. a great single for this particular record. i am glad every PJ album sounds different.
I agree with the second two comments but what the heck is "grunge" about The Fixer?
