I can see Pedro coming out of the pen but the Phils will give him a chance to start (my guess at least 3 games) and then evaluate from there. Pedro's contract does have incentives for him coming in for relief appearances. So it's not like the Phils would be taking money from Pedro's pocket by putting him in the pen.

My biggest concern with Happ is that he hasn't played any team twice yet. To me, that will be the real test of how well he is pitching. He looked good last night but just didn't get any run support.

I probably know Pedro more than most Phillies fans, but he's a diva. He did not come out of retirement to come out of the bullpen. He came back to start and rub it in with how bad the Mets are.

If he comes out of the pen, he won't be happy and is famous for causing clubhouse tension when he's not happy.

Also here are the team records in games started for the Phils' pitchers this year:

    Blanton team is 11-8
    Hamels 12-8
    Moyer 12-8
    Happ 6-7
    Myers 5-5
    Park 5-2
    Lopez 4-0
    Bastardo 2-3
    Carpenter 1-0

So the team has a losing a record in games Happ has started this year. (Not saying he's pitching bad - a lot of it has been bad luck.) So he would be the most likely to be removed from the rotation.

And I agree with you, all I was saying is that Pedro will get the opportunity to start and evaluations will be made from there. If Pedro is Chan Ho II then I see him in the pen but if he pitches effectively he'll be a starter. I mean alot of people are making this a clear cut this has to be done sitution, whereas I see the Phils only have one move to make, clear roster space for Lee and Francisco, after that they'll ( I think ) just sit back and see what plays out with their staff. Yes Happ would probably move to the pen so that Pedro could start but he could just as easily take over Lopez's spot should he falter. To me this is a fluid situation, and a good one for the Phils to be in.

    Lopez is out for Lee

So your three definites are Hamles, Lee and Blanton with the last two spots going to either Moyer, Happ or Pedro and Happ is going to get the short end of the stick at least until September or an injury.

Pedro earns an extra 6-7 hundred thousand in the rotation and only a like 200 to 250 thousand if in the bullpen. At this point in his career money shouldn't matter to him, but it will and he also has a huge ego.

The other thing I'm worried about is if Ruiz goes down - your catching situation is now Paul Bako and 33 year old minor league lifer Paul Hoover.

He definitely is a diva for sure, but don't think he has a gripe with the Mets as he was given every opportunity....and let's take it easy with the 'how bad the Mets are' comments..it's a AA fucking lineup..today's starting bunch:

    Pagan
    Cora
    Wright
    Murphy
    Frenchy
    Sullivan
    Santos
    Berroa
    Santana

Murphy hitting cleanup..lol..Berroa should not be playing ball...Cora is a trooper but is a bench player at best, and who the fuck is Sullivan?

put on a slow, dumb show for you
    and crack you up

Yeah that's right... these early days of work and the Phils on a west coast swing are starting to catch up with me....

When does Pedro make sense? I mean he begged to be put into Game 7 in the 2004 ALCS against the Yanks with the game well hand (and made it interesting) effectively not making him available till Game 3 of the World Series.

The Tigers snagged Washburn from Seattle. That's great, aside from the fact that another pitcher that can limit all teams to 3 runs or less does you no good when your offense is incapable of scoring more than two... why the hell would they get a pitcher when the lack of hitting has been their problem all season?
