I started this 'rumour' and I'll take my lumps if I'm wrong. Again, I'll reiterate, I hope the information I heard is wrong.

I didn't start this thread to cause a ruckus. I believe the person who told me and I thought I would share the information with everyone here.

Do I get a prize if the information is accurate? ;)

I could not see Pearl Jam filling stadiums. You figure they sold 60,000 tickets in Sydney and can play about 3 nights in Sydney and Melbourne, but a lot of those fans attend multiple nights. Back in 95 when they toured Australia they could have, not today. However I don't see them doing a full blown australian tour like the one in 06, mabey 2 shows in sydney/melbourne and 1 night everywhere else. I think everyone was expecting a full blown european tour and look what they got! I think it all depends on how bad Ed wants to surf!

Pearl Jam has never played one show per city in Aussie, have they? I am not believing this source, amigo. Besides, I have driven over 6 hours to see Pearl Jam...I know that you can manage to get SOMEWHERE if they are on your soil...
they only played Arenas though no?
so 1 Stadium show would be about 3 arenas (though arguably a significant number at each arena shows are repeat customers ;))

Since they're only doing 4 (well, 4.2) shows in Europe this year, which they never done so few either, it'd make sense.

I know it sucks for you guys but on a purely selfish level, I would be quite happy with that because it'd remove any temptation for me to make the unaffordable trip... even with NZ thrown in.

I would never have thought it possible for them to play stadium shows for the whole tour, but as someone said it might be recued tour, not to the extent on 2006.

Personally, they wouldnt fill ANZ stadium for the Sydney show. The SFS seems reasonable, but after the echo echo echo issues they had in Perth in 06 by playing at Subiaco, not sure how the sound would be.

Financially it makes sense - only 1 lot of venue hire fees as opposed to 2 or 3 like in previous tours. Our dollar is down, their return would be less so they might be looking to reduce costs.

I dont want to say I dont like the idea of playing stadiums, cos im just happy they are coming, but ill say I prefer the indoor venues - Brisbane/Adelaide Ent Cent, Rod Laver Arena, and bacl to Sydney Ent Cent as Acer Arena is a lifeless concrete black hole.

EDIT: Newcastle was a beautiful one-off memorable show (for the people hehe). If they dont go back there, I wouldnt be too disappointed, it was a special show that probably deserves to stand alone. (Sorry to those who missed it...)
Stars walk the red carpet because they're famous - I walk the toilet paper because im the shit.
  • I remember hearing this over a year ago that they will be playing ONE show only per city with all them being OUTDOOR venues and Ben Harper opening. Which makes it half correct so far...

Ben Harper is huge in Australia, so perhaps the logic is that with him on the bill, they can fill a stadium with his fans as well.

    OR

Maybe it will be a double billing of sorts with one or two other opening acts.

If it ends up being one show per city in big stadiums with PJ getting equal show time (an hour or so), after the way they've made us wait for the announcement, I will be more than a little bit pissed.
    Come to send, not condescend...

    We haven't had a Newcastle show since 1992 - I think we're due one first ;)

Hope it is December as i will be in Sydney from the 18th-21st November. Couldn't handle being the same city & not seeing them & being the 10c makes it easy to get tickets. Atleast i am going to the o2 next month. But Suncorp would be a great outdoor venue to see them, it is very inclosed & be intimate as you could get for a staduim.

FYI Suncorp Stadium Brisbane has two sporting events booked for Nov 2009 - the 21st and 29th. I highly doubt they'll play the same venue Robbie Williams did (yes, I know, they did in Perthin 2006), but we'll see soon enough. I expected AC/DC to be at Suncorp, but theyre at QSAC, where U2 played in 2006. FFS, The Police played at Suncorp!

Which of the two venues is smaller? I'd be banking on the smaller of the two.

QSAC is slightly smaller than Suncorp.
RHCP did a tour in 2002 and played

2 shows at Brisbane Ent Cent
    and 1 each at
    SFS, Sydney
    Docklands, Melbourne
    Hindmarsh, Adelaide
    Burswood Dome, Perth
I guess something similar to that is believable, maybe substitute Docklands with Sidney Myer Music Bowl...??

in the end RHCP's changed to the entertainment centre in adelaide not sure why maybe demand.

i think with the way suncorp is set up, for a concert you'd fit more at QSAC. it has a bigger floor area for standing, and with the stage at one end there would be less seats lost due to restricted view then with a stage at one end of Suncorp.

but either way i don't like the idea.

but either of those venues are easier then getting to the Ent Cent. i would still love to see PJ at the River Stage over any other of the major venues in brisso.

im pretty sure they had stage trouble at hindmarsh. it was shifted across the road to the end cent on the day of or the day before the show from memory...
Yeh I've seen Pearl Jam, too. But I can't remember the dates.

yeah the stage collapsed on the morning of the show, so the crew (and fans who were hanging around) ended up walking most of their gear to the ent cent. apparently their fee for changing the gig to the ent cent at such late notice was huge, so good on them for doing that. even though theyre shit.

Yeah that was my first and last RHCP show let me tell you...

Anyway it wouldn't surprise me if Pj played only 5 or so shows in Australia. I mean only a mini tour of 15 odd shows in North America and 4 (plus the club show) in Europe so Australia could be similar. Also a show in Auckland and maybe Wellington to be added.

PJ would fill the Sydney Football Stadium with about 30, 000 fans, same goes for Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth (Subiaco again).. The only concern for me is them playing at Adelaide Oval. Not sure they would be a great investment on PJ's part. I would favor 1 or 2 entertainment centre shows in Adelaide.

they would not get 30,000 to 1 brisbane show. the Ent Cent here only holds about 13,000-15,000 and i don't think the second show is a sell out, it would get close.

and yeah, what is the percentage of repeat offenders? i think it would be fairly large at a PJ gig so that would slow ticket sales of one show only.

Stadium tour confirmed. One date per city.
