Australian tour in November.

Stadium shows starting in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. One show per city.

No Newcastle. :(

I hope this isn't true, but I've heard it from a pretty reliable source. :(

    Interesting indeed...

    Care to share your source?

Adelaide had an article in a paper saying Nov 7 (I think) @ Adelaide Oval... this adds up with what your saying...
    1995 - March 08 Adelaide.
    1998 - March 07 Adelaide.
    2003 - Feb 11 Sydney. 16 Adelaide. 18+19+20 Melbourne.
    2006 - Sep 07 Madrid. 09 Marseille. 11 Paris. // Nov 07 Sydney. 13+14 Melbourne. 21+22 Adelaide.
    2009 - Nov 17 Adelaide. 20 Melbourne. 22 Sydney.
    2011 - Eddie Vedder; March 25 Melbourne. 27+28 Adelaide.
    2014 - BDO. Jan 23 Melbourne. 25 Sydney. 31 Adelaide.
  • Part of me is okay with this... at least every show will be a 10C show!
    1998 - 11/3 (SYD2)
    2003 - 11/2 (SYD1), 13/2 (SYD2), 14/2 (SYD3), 8/7 (MSG1), 9/7 (MSG2), 11/7 (BOS3)
    2006 - 7/11 (SYD1), 8/11 (SYD2), 10/11 (BRIS1), 18/11 (SYD3)
    2009 - 20/11 (MEL), 22/11 (SYD)
    2011 - 18/3 (EVSYD1), 19/3 (EVSYD2), 24/3 (EVMEL1), 25/3 (EVMEL2)
    2014 - 26/1 (BDOSYD)

Acer Arena is an arena whereas stadiums are twice to four times as big. The shows could be 40,000 to 60,000 seaters. AC/DC is doing general admission on the floor in the stadiums here in Oz, but each section is the size of half an American Football field, so to me that is no good.

I can't reveal my source. Sorry. I don't have the time or spitefullness to make it up though.

I am pretty upset about the no Newcastle show. Really upset actually.
  • isnt newcastle only 2 hours from sydney? that's not that much of a drive to see pj.
i remember you...i was gonna vote for you one time...but voting isn't cool so i stayed home and got trashed on listerine.

Surely wouldnt happen. What stadium in Sydney? ANZ fits 80k, Footy stadium seats 40k, not to mention how many would be standing. I'm sorry, but I don't think Pj could fill ANZ. I hope this isn't true. And only one show per city??? As Phil Gould would say No No No No No

It's not the drive, it's the venue. The Entertainment Centre would be the smallest venue they've played in Oz to my knowledge.

It will be the footy stadium, not ANZ.

Look, I wish this wasn't true, but I believe the person who told me.

I would love for everyone to be mad at me in a few weeks if it turns out this isn't true, esp. re: Newcastle, but I don't think it's going to be the case.
  • Well even if they only do one show, it'll be my first Pearl Jam show. Brisbane. Should be great. I'm just not a huge fan of Ben Harper so I hope I 'accidently' miss the opening!

Edit: While I think of it too, they'll either tour early November or early December. We have Britney and Nickelback here to fill in quite a bit of November. But who knows hey?!

Some bands have done bigger venues in Sydney and Melbourne (like the Stones and RHCP back in 02) and just did BEC....

Pearl Jam has never played one show per city in Aussie, have they? I am not believing this source, amigo. Besides, I have driven over 6 hours to see Pearl Jam...I know that you can manage to get SOMEWHERE if they are on your soil...

Ben Harper live is something to behold. I would highly recommend going because one day you will 'accidently' realise how good he is and kick yourself for missing him play.

I'll still go to Sydney, the travelling is not my complaint. Stadium shows suck. Period. Even front row at a stadium show is like 10th row at an arena show. Seeing a band you love in the smallest venue possible, as opposed to the largest, has always been my primary objective. Now that I'm a bit (or a lot) older, the venue plays a huge part in my deciding of whether or not to see a show. Again, I'm believing my source.

What concerns me is how certain you are. Don't be offended, but I hope you end up with egg on your face :D

Well my very reliable mail is a late November tour starting in Perth on the 14th, Adelaide 17th, Melbourne 20th, then Sydney and Brisbane to follow.

    So we'll see I guess.

They just need to annouce them. Getting a bit ridiculous now.

shows at stadia would be very ambitious... and about 14yrs too late.
Yeh I've seen Pearl Jam, too. But I can't remember the dates.

they only played Arenas though no?
so 1 Stadium show would be about 3 arenas (though arguably a significant number at each arena shows are repeat customers ;))

Since they're only doing 4 (well, 4.2) shows in Europe this year, which they never done so few either, it'd make sense.

I know it sucks for you guys but on a purely selfish level, I would be quite happy with that because it'd remove any temptation for me to make the unaffordable trip... even with NZ thrown in.

I hope I do too. I really hope I have the wrong information.

I do not know when the announcement is, but the tour is in November.

FYI Suncorp Stadium Brisbane has two sporting events booked for Nov 2009 - the 21st and 29th. I highly doubt they'll play the same venue Robbie Williams did (yes, I know, they did in Perthin 2006), but we'll see soon enough. I expected AC/DC to be at Suncorp, but theyre at QSAC, where U2 played in 2006. FFS, The Police played at Suncorp!

Which of the two venues is smaller? I'd be banking on the smaller of the two.

I just dont believe it. Triple M said December and I'm sticking with December. I cant see them going back to bigger venues when they've played the smaller ones last 2 times they've been out. Ed did say they'd be playing at the RLA in Melbourne with the roof open.

He's been saying that since 1995 though.

  •  One show per city!!! REALLY!!! They've never done that over here before, they have always played more than one show (always 3 here)

I cannot see them playing only one show in each capital city, there would definitley have to be more of a demand than that!!!

I'll be going regardless...But i just can't see the one show per capital city happening, there would definitley have to be more!!

Don't worry, they'll do more than one show per city. Since when have they travelled that far only to do one show in each town? I dont know where these rumours start, but I'd be very surprised if that's all they did.

That's the shortest drive I have to make to catch a show worth a damn.

QSAC is slightly smaller than Suncorp.
RHCP did a tour in 2002 and played

2 shows at Brisbane Ent Cent
    and 1 each at
    SFS, Sydney
    Docklands, Melbourne
    Hindmarsh, Adelaide
    Burswood Dome, Perth
I guess something similar to that is believable, maybe substitute Docklands with Sidney Myer Music Bowl...??

Burswood Dome is one of the worst venues in the world. Seriously. I hope they don't play there for our poor friends in WA.
