Wow, I'm still amazed by how good the songs are that have only just broken the top 50. One of them on the list today will make your jaw drop!!!

personally, since he is including recorded/released covers,
LAST KISS should be at the very bottom of that list

sweet lew, whale song, gremmie, red dot...all of them are better

i agree its the only song I will skip, i just dont like it

  • I've got to say, agree or not, I am definitely enjoying this little list... Often thought of doing something along these lines, but determined it to be impossible, since my "Top 5" alone could probably include any one of 60 Pearl Jam songs depending on the say...

Love the idea, the descriptions, and the videos.

Agreed. It's just a great list and an awesome read. I wonder where Given to Fly will end up...

i'm pretty pumped to see that many of my favorite live songs have not been listed yet. songs like immortality, in hiding, porch, release and rvm have to be in the top ten. i'm still pretty upset to see that parting ways wasn't way up on the list.

blood just defintely be in the top fifty; listen to any live version of this song and you'll feel the intensity.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...it BETTER end up in the top 5

Anyhow, I'm happy to see that Brain of J beat out Not For You, both great songs but IMO BoJ is just a teency bit better :)

HTI was a sore spot for me though, surprised to see it didn't break the top 25. Also surprised to see it was a Vs song, always thought it fit perfectly on Yield. You learn something new everyday.

Damn, 'Not For You' has gone... Oh well, I still think he's nuts for even trying to make this list and now that 2 of my all-time top 5 have fallen I'm intrigued to see how the rest shapes up.

I just attempted his challenge of compliling my 25 PJ songs... there are about 90 in my top 25 so far...hmm...
    “Do not postpone happiness”
    (Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)

“Put yer good money on the sunrise”

I made my top 25 too and it was a killer. I hope he can get a few together so we can see a really good cross section of our favourites. For the record, my top 10 was:
    1. corduroy
    2. state of love and trust
    3. r.v.m
    4. black
    5. porch
    6. spin the black circle
    7. yellow ledbetter
    8. breath
    9. love boat captain
    10. grievance
we're all going to the same place...

    *bump*

this list is just getting so good that it deserves a friendly bump. It's tough to see songs like YL not make the top 30 but when you think what we still have to come, it makes you think that PJ's top twenty should incluse about 50 tracks!

  • My original message and my Top 20...
--- Thanks again Charles, You made my week!..........................

I can't believe I am even going to attempt this trying task- I have no idea how you were able to do it and not go insane. This is why there are only 20. In doing this, I have found that I probably have a top 75, which is insane to be able to find a band that has made that much great music together, and counting. It's also great that this band is still together- we haven't lost any to overdoses or suicides. Can't imagine how different the music today would be if we hadn't lost such great singer/songwriters prematurely, such as Shannon Hoon, Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, to name a few.

I have been following this since day one. Everyday, as I click on the link for the day's countdown, I literally hold my breath, hoping not to see my ultimate favorite PJ song. And yes, I have picked my own #1, it has very personal reasons behind it and completely affected my life. Such a great break-up song but I choose to look at it as a moving on/coping song because I don't want to associate anything bad with any of their great songs. I am such a sucker for great quotes/metaphors and when you find a catchy tune that you can rock out to, great. But, any Pearl Jam lyric that you look up, it has such a deep meaning behind it. Maybe it's just me and what I personally take from it and how I relate it to my life, but you just don't get this from many bands anymore- meaning behind the song. This makes my love for this band that much greater.

So far, some of my top faves have not been laid to rest, but so so many have... RIP- Save you, I am mine, Fatal, Garden, Hard to Imagine to name a few. So, here I go...

    #20- Porch
    #19- Daughter
    #18- In my tree
    #17- Indifference
#16- Black- This maybe should be higher on the list but I just can't makeup my mind, and I think the radio overkill may also have an affect on my ranking...
    #15- Off he Goes
    #14- Elderly Woman
    #13- Jeremy
    #12- Release
    #11- Corduroy
    #10- Alive
    #9- Wash
    #8- Given to Fly
    #7- I got ID
    #6- Nothingman
#5- State of Love and Trust
    #4- Oceans
    #3- Rear view Mirror
    #2- Immortality
#1............FOOTSTEPS... "I got scratches all over my arms, one for each day since I fell apart" You just can find lyrics like this anymore...

"I feel sorry for people that don't drink; when they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day." -Frank

Ok, now something has happened in this crazy "60 days" countdown that I just do not understand - the order that the Avocado songs are listed. As 'Inside Job' is the only one not mentioned so far, we can assume that it's thought of as the best song on the album (fair point) but 'Come Back' coming in at #27?

I quite like 'Come Back' but there is no way that I can figure out how that song could ever be listed as the second best song on that album especially when 'World Wide Suicide' is rated as second-worst (coming in at 116) and 'Severed Hand' third from last (in at 105)

It'll be very interesting to see how he sorts this lot into a top 20:
    Alive
    Black
    Breath
    Corduroy
    Do the Evolution
Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town
    Footsteps
    Given to Fly
    I Got ID
    Immortality
    In Hiding
    Indifference
    Inside Job
    Jeremy
    Light Years
    Long Road
    Porch
    Present Tense
    Rearviewmirror
    Release
    “Do not postpone happiness”
    (Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)

“Put yer good money on the sunrise”

I dunno, I'm not the hugest fan of avocado compared to some albums. I feel as if I'm still growing into it. However, I've always loved Inside Job and it was by far the best song on the album, followed by Come Back, Comatose and Marker in no particular order. I never rated WWS or Severed Hand particularly; everyone goes crazy for them but I really don't think they are in the top half of that album. I think he's got it spot on.

It's down to the top 3 and every song is just so damned great. I think he'll have Black in the top spot.
