I love unemployable. Fixer....meh. It may grow on me. But those songs are nothing alike except for the yeah yeah yeahs and the oh oh ohs.

I like most of what Avocado served up, though it did not have a great flow that held it all together. I enjoyed most of the individual songs on it (though I still think Parachutes is dreadful).

The Fixer had me cringe as I (like a true diehard fan) waited up to hear it as soon as it was released. I played it for my girlfriend this morning and watched her have the same sort of response. This came from two people wanting to plan their vacations around seeing PJ live (and obviously nerdy enough to be in the fan club) :)

That's exactly what I mean, and what some other people mean. We're not saying the songs are carbon copies of each other, but that similarities like the yeahs and ohs are noticeable enough where the comparison of the songs is a fair one.

agreed, this sounds like something straight from the avocado sessions. i think what most of you are saying about it not fitting on the album is correct, thats why it wasnt on the album and we are getting it this time around. its got the sound of S/T for sure. more so then sad did of binaural, would have been hard to believe that song was from the same sessions if it wasnt printed on the liner notes.

if i remember correctly, they recorded a shit ton of material for avocado so its not that crazy to think its from the session, when it sounds the same! lol

is this true? who here likes one but hates (or dislikes) the other? Sounds like it came straight out of the Self Titled sessions.

strongly disagree... I like the avocado, and do not like a lot The Fixer

I believe in one of the interviews I read on here Mike or Ed say Matt wrote it last year. So it would be kinda hard for it to be from the S/T extras.

Avocado is ok ... The Fixer is ok ... Got Some, I don't know ... they all are not the masterpieces of PJ's career. :? I'm looking forward to the other Backspacer songs though. :)

I'm not a big Avacado fan..I only like about half of the songs.

I like the Fixer. I think it's a good, not great, song.

  • Avocado is a work of genius imho. Just have to say to me parachutes is one of the most beautiful songs in the catalog, reminds me of something by Paul McCartney for the Beatles, (michelle, in my life). I think Stone came upon a gorgeous progression, hits home for me every time. I agree that the flow isn't there in avocado, unlike ten, yield, no code that could be one long song, it's like the live shows how they do a couple fast songs then bring it down with something quieter. I dig the fixer it's growing on me, still seems much happier than any thing on avacado, (it's pretty dark). If they guys are happy thats great.

I'm not huge on the last album but love the fixer... I think it's more hopeful than S/T.

Look for this sentence... bout half way down or so: Mike tells us that “The Fixer” was written by Matt Cameron, and the band all arranged it. Mike guessed the song was written about a year ago, and that Matt had the song before they went into the studio.

  • obviously with a thread title like that, i expected the exceptions to pop out. a lot of people seem to have the same feeling though.

The Fixer doesn't really remind me of S/T.

How can it not? It's Eddie's super-spiffed up studio sounding vocals again. I don't think this is even debatable. Unless we're talking about the music. But vocal-wise, it sounds just like Unemployable where it sounds like the vocals are very layered or something.

Exactly! As soon as I heard it thought... Unemployable. There is some kind affect on Ed's voice, which is the first thing I noticed about Unemployable. It gave me that weird sick in the stomach feeling that I got when I heard Unemployable for the first time too..... Like awwww shit what is this... and I don't mean butterflies sick I mean nauseous.

I guess super spiffed up studio vocals is the best way to describe. I also agree 100% that this could have def been on Avacodo..no doubt.

what gets me is people keep saying its new and different sound, but to me it sounds exactly like the same speedy pop punk songs on Avacado, only with goofier lyrics and less awful compression. different lyrics doesnt make a song different. Someone should explain to me why its different.

Avocado is my least favourite album and I really like the fixer. Over half of s/t has no melody where as the fixer is VERY catchy. The production is also far better on this. I can't listen to a good portion of avocado because the sound is all over the place.
