is this true? who here likes one but hates (or dislikes) the other? Sounds like it came straight out of the Self Titled sessions.

I think it may be a rejected song from those sessions.

Well, the first two posters are wrong. First off, it's good enough that it would be one of the better songs on their last album, as I'm sure it'll be with the new one.

And second, I like all of Pearl Jam's albums and I still like this song. Stop generalizing people to justify your dislike for it. If you don't like it, you don't like it. Don't listen to it then.
  • I don't think this would be a reject from Avocado, lyrically it seems to be coming from a very different place compared to something like World Wide Suicide.

Might be the opposite. You've got 2 posters here that love s/t and don't like the Fixer, and I don't like s/t but really like the Fixer ;)

I love self titled, but am not all that crazy about any of the 5 songs I have heard thus far, though i am really not judging the songs Ed did solo too much right now because they will probably sound much better on the album.

im not justifying. i just think if someone asked me if it was good, i'd say if they liked Avacado they might like this. my first reaction was it sounded like Big Wave or something from that.

(i admit i dont like either much except for a couple S/T songs)

I love how you say I'm wrong...as if you know. I mean, I'm just speculating. Maybe they felt it sounded too much like Unemployable to include it on the last album. It definitely sounds more like Unemployable, Big Wave and Marker in the Sand than it does Got Some.

I just can't believe this is the lead single. I mean whether you liked Worldwide Sucicde or not, at least it rocked and said something more than "yeah yeah yeah."

The Fixer doesn't really remind me of S/T. I'm liking The Fixer, I never got all that into S/T. I like a few songs, but they aren't on heavy rotation.

If this is gonna be "one of the better songs on the album" as some of you have predicted, this is gonna be an underwhelming album to say the least.

I agree with this. I'm enjoying the Fixer more than most of S/T

How can it not? It's Eddie's super-spiffed up studio sounding vocals again. I don't think this is even debatable. Unless we're talking about the music. But vocal-wise, it sounds just like Unemployable where it sounds like the vocals are very layered or something.

Yeah, whereas "Got Some" just repeats, "Got Some if you need it"......

Fixer has much better vocal harmony/beat than Got Some imo.
And so you see, I have come to doubt

how can anyone know what's going to be one of the better songs on the album until they've heard the whole album?

Not at all. There's nothing that happy on Avocado. It wouldn't have fit. Plus it doesn't sound as flat or tinny as most of the songs on Avocado.

sounds like they just rewrote the lyrics. musically its similar (but with better production). But a lot of the songs on Avacado weren't angry either. Severed Hand, Big Wave, maybe Parachutes. Cant remember the lyrics to all of them offhand, but they were kinda happy or neutral.

i love avocado and i'm digging the fixer. and i do not hear anything that would make me think they sound like they were written at the same time. to my ear it is a much different , newer sound on the fixer.
    Peace, Love.

Avocado is my least favorite PJ album..........

but I am really liking the sound of The Fixer.

People comparing it to Unemployable.......the only thing comparable is that both have a catchy chorus. Unemployable was pretty weak musically/vocally on the verses.....this song holds my attention all the way through.

LOVE! I LOVE both Avocado..and the fixer...Just had to add mine! :D
  • I really don't know when it was decided around here by the peanut gallery that the last album (Avocado) was a bad album. Seriously? If we are going to start pointing fingers, Riot Act is a weak album as far as this band's catalogue is concerned. But the last album--the last album was awesome and very exciting to see this band have a fire under them again. I have a feeling the new album will only build on that momentum.

And for all the people who hate the new stuff but LOVE No Code or whatever, I really have to wonder if you were even around when No Code came out? Many of you seem to be glorifying a past that you didn't even partake in (I did FYI). I have loved this band through thick and thin for half my life and this new shit is thick like my lunch lady's ass. Anyone who thinks different just sounds fucking stupid to me. Sorry.

I loved Avocado and I'm begining to love this song.

I don't think this song is anything like Unemployeable other the choruses being slightly similiar. One thing I really dislike is how layered his voice is there's a few spots where I don't think Eddie could hit those notes (lol) and I agree with the fading out being really lame.

I think this song will be great live. I love change, I want to be able to keep listening to Pearl Jam forever but eventually you get bored of the same stuff and I don't mind the popier sound at all.

Agree with you on Riot Act and Avocado. Avocado was such a 180 degree turn from the dreary Riot Act and I love it. I still listen to it a lot. It did seem like they had a fire again. Riot Act sounded like a band ready to quit.

But I still don't like The Fixer that much. But I don't really hate it either. I just think better lyrics in the verses would have helped tremedously.

    Got Some fucking rocks though.
