every CD they have ever made are great..not one bad out of those released so far...and I don't expect a bad one ever

The modern day LED ZEPPELIN,,which NEVER made a bad CD

Some weaker than others, maybe, but all great in my opinion....

I agree wholeheartedly. When I hear the old "Riot Act" blows talk, I think to myself... "Save You... LBC... GREEN DISEASE>>>???" Those songs suck? Every song is great and takes on its own life IMO. Binaural as well... amazing songs on that album. Each record shows growth and that's what rock and roll pioneers do... growth and change... such is life.

On the other hand, I've never understood the fascination with "No Way"... saw it at Star Lake though... I guess I'm pretty lucky... or not. :)

No Code is a great album with, in my opinion, one of PJ's top 10 songs ever; In My Tree

  • Yes there is. It's called Binaural. When there are only 6 good tracks on a 13 song album, that's not a classic. But the six good ones are still better than 90% of the music recorded today.

Binaural = possibly best PJ album

    Self-titled = worst PJ album

I would stay rather listen to all of them over any other group

Every time there's a new tour or a new album on the way I always listen to every PJ album in its entirety in order (including Live On Two Legs, Lost Dogs, Benny Hall and some boots of shows that I went to) and they NEVER get old!

It is a fact that PJ have not released a bad album. Sure, Binaural sounded like it was recorded in a bin, and there are a couple of tracks that aren't as good as the rest, but it is fair to say that hey have been the most consistent band of the last 20 years in terms of the quality of their albums.

  • People ask me, "what is your favorite PJ album"? I always have to counter with, "Which one of your children is your favorite"? And I will usually give them 3 in no particular order. Then they will ask, "what is your least favorite album"?...I just look at them, shake my head, and tell them there is no such thing as a least favorite PJ album. They are all incredible and no single one could ever be placed last on a list.

OK....i have said this before somewhere, but ill say it again...here goes....

Summer 1996 i was about 15 years old. PJ was the BIGGEST band on the planet. They had released TEN/VS and VITALOGY (best alb ever) and NO CODE was HIGHLY anticipated.

I remember that summer VERY well. I was working with my brother in law at his body shop in Coney Island Brooklyn, NY. I was literally PLANTED to the radio trying to hear some new PJ, and counting down the days on the calendar till AUG 27th.

The single was weird, and UNLIKE PJ...Before the album was released i had heard RM, SMILE, WYA,HAIL HAIL, HABIT

I thought the album was going to rock! I got the album 1 day earlier from my local record store....

    WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT!

Its basically a 10 track album.....after PT the album is unlistenable.....MANKIND (who wants to listen to PJ without EV singing) IM OPEN (Filler) ATB (disgraceful lullaby song, that to this day cannot believe the band actually recorded).

This album literally forced 75% of their fanbase to take off.....Which is what PJ was shooting for....

For those of you here that werent around for the release date of this album, you just dont understand the power this band had at that point. You will never understand going back to their catalogue and listening to it...

    HAD TO BE AROUND THEN!

And yes i did listen to that CD everyday.......for months.....I love this Band, but NO CODE cannot compare to the previous 3 releases or even the album that followed it (YIELD)

I have gotten into PJ within the past couple of years, so I guess I cannot relate (yet...because of Backspacer), however, I routinely place No Code in my top 3.

Do you still feel the same way about it 13 years later?

Yes i still feel the same way........

    Binaural was AMAZING!
Riot Act was more generic, but it was more of a ROCK record than NO CODE....

    Heres how i rank em

VITALOGY-Gratest Album this band has ever made, dark, disturbed, STOOD THE TEST OF TIME!
VS- Raw, loud, and angry, PJ sounding the way THEY wanna sound (big brother to Vitalogy)
    TEN-Classic
BINAURAL-Experimental, Atmospheric, Mysterious, Deep....FANTASTIC PIECE OF ART!
S/T-Back to basics, PJ trying to sound like the "old PJ". Album doesnt flow properly, but a great collection of tunes
YIELD- This was known as their "back to form" album...uplifting, first album where they all were collabaritive
RIOT ACT- ok collection of tunes, very generic. Vedder lost a touch vocally, that he made sure he brought back to the table for S/T

NO CODE-You know how i feel about this album

I'll agree they're the modern day Led Zep, as in they made 6 straight incredible albums and then fell off into weirdness and uninspired albums that still had a few good songs. After Physical Graffiti, LZ never quite made a stellar album, and PJ hasn't since Binaural. But both bands had a run of their first 6 albums that is unparalleled.

I like Binaural, it's moody and tense and has good songs. But I'll never like Riot Act. Yes, those songs you listed suck. I don't like LBC at all, it's boring and has incredibly lame lyrics. Green Disease is filler if I ever heard it, not really a fully formed song at all. Save You is ok, but it's a pretty generic riff rocker in their catalogue and they've got about 10 similar songs I'd rather hear over this one. All Riot Act has that really stands out is All or None, a fantastic song.
