Shepherd's Bush - Am I out of my mind?!

I know this is the worst place to come for a reasoned and objective opinion on this, but anyway...

I'm flying to the UK from Dublin on August 15th (I think) for the Manchester & London shows, but there's no way I can get more time off work to go to Shepherd's Bush too...

BUT - I've looked into flights and it's possible (if pretty tight) to work on Tuesday, leave at 4pm for a 6pm flight. I won't get to the Empire before 8pm, & will then need to shift my spare ticket. Then I rock out, sleep on my brother's couch & up at 5am for a 7am flight back to Dublin in time for work.

& then 3 days later fly to Manchester to do it relaxedly.

So... Am I out of my mind to be considering this. Is it worth it??? (taking into consideration that nothing ever goes as smoothly as you expect it to...)

Do it! I did pretty much the same thing for Copenhagen 2007. Very stressful but well worth it!

    Don't do it!

The lower the number of people trying for tickets means the more chance I have of going! :D

It will be an adventure and even if you only get to see half that show I think it would be worth it.

Try and arrange your pick up times etc. to run as smooth as possible.

And make sure you alert Ten Club. Sometimes if you don't show up in time there is a chance your tickets might be given away?

Don't actually know if that is true, but I would alert them that you will be late just in case.
  • You are out of your mind...

But I applaud you for it :D

    DOOOOOOOOO IIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

Another thought hit me. You might be better off going straight to the airport after the show with a pillow.

That might afford you more sleep than going to your bro's house, but I don't know how much time you would lose going to his house or straight to the airport. AND if they would even be open and allow you to doze off.

I flew to New Orleans arriving on a Sunday (or Monday I can't remember) for a Football game between the Saints and Falcons. U2 and Greenday played the half time show and it was the first game after Katrina and meant a lot to the city.

I had a free Southwest ticket that was expiring. So I flew in the morning/afternoon, just in time for the game.

After the game I headed straight for the airport. I had a few hours to kill.

The only buzz kill was the airport wouldn't open until 5am or so and I was there at 1 or 2 am.

    That made lying down difficult.

Can you not feel a bit of a migraine coming on at about 12 or 1 to catch at flight at about 3?

I'd do it. If it meant seeing Pearl Jam in a venue as small as this, I would so do it.

It sounds like a very sane and reasonable thing to do... no-one wants to miss this one.

If you can make it work do it. I live about 8 hours from NYC. Left home at 6:30 am, drove to Syracuse, took a 5 hour bus to NYC, saw MSG 2 last year, left near the end of the show, RAN the 8 blocks back to the Port Authority, got on the midnight bus, put on an eyemask, earplugs, and had my inflatable pillow, slept in my seat for about 4 hours, got back to Syracuse at 4:30am, drove home in time to see my daughter's end of the year performance at 8am. You'll be exhausted but you won't regret seeing Pearl Jam. There's kind of a thrill in doing stuff like this!

edit - oh yeah, and I drove back out 2 days later to Philly to see PJ in Camdenx2, put my daughter on the bus back home, and drove back to the NYC to see the Cure.

From my experience, it never goes to plan.

your plan relies on no delays whatsoever... which is almost impossible (you're landing when and where btw? and which airline? if it's easyjet or ryanair, forget it)
And if you don't make it in time, your tickets are going to waste when someone that can attend 1000% could have had them.. just saying.

which is exactly why I asked "Am I out of my mind...?"

    yes you are.

but then take that from the gal that decided on the Monday of that weekend to fly to LA to see Ed, booked a flight on the Tuesday, with no tickets for the show, leaving London 8am, landing LA 13:00 on the Saturday, flying back from LA 12:00 Monday landing 8am on Tuesday and straight into work... well.. I'm not very well placed for giving advice on not doing crazy stuff

    DO IT DUDE!!!!

Think alot of us have been in previous similar situtions when it comes down to seeing PJ. In my cases looking back its always been worth it. Work to live not live to work, there will always be other jobs and days to catch up on sleep.

Please decide before going ahead with the ticket order though, we don't want a pit thats minus 2 fans

I'm sat here like a nervous wreck waiting till 5PM for chance of the lottery. (Fingers Crossed!)

Oh yeah? Well, I've had about enough of morons and halfwits, dolts, dunces, dullards and dumbbells - and you chowderhead yokel, you blithering hayseed, you - you've had enough of me?
