    hahahaha...

I'm 31, does that count as an elder? It sure feels like it sometimes....

    I love everyone on the board...except everyone I don't.

And by new members I mean 2005ish and on. I guess it speaks volumes really, I just never took notice because I never log on.
Well, to be fair, my "year" here is 2003. That is the year I joined the Message Pit. I've been a Ten Club member since 1994.

and I in '95....those "joined" times are misleading. Lots of tribal elders around.

new members seem more vocal where us old folks seem to sit back and read rather than post.

Well, it's taken me months and months just to figure out how this new board works. I think that speaks volumes.....to my ability to adapt to change.

It's not, as others have mentioned, it's just that the new members do seem to post more, which is understandable. Also, as others have mentioned, the joined date really doesn't mean much, either in time in the 10c or board. With the many changes that have occurred over the years lots got lost. It's a great place though and I for one have lots of fun here and have met lots of great friends. :)

OP is looking at the "join" date under everyone's avatar which sometimes matches your 10c join date but sometimes appears to match when you made your forum account, i'm not sure how that's figured out to be truthful...

And someone said something about newer members starting arguments... it's been like this (argumentative) for a long time... not just recently... it happens every time they tour or release an album... it's just that the baby birdies wanna get fed and all so a lot of chirping happens... but it's been like this for a long time... I did notice it getting progressively worse here around 04 or so however....

edit: what i mean to say is it's not just newer members causing the shit storms.
  • With a band like Pearl Jam, who's been around for almost 20 years, you really have to expect that fans cannot be classified according to the year in which they joined the 10C. Fans from the "golden era" (i.e., 1991-1998 or so) are mostly into their late 30's or early 40's now (one would assume) probably have different mentalities, one upon which post counts or join dates have no impact on their ability to enjoy good music.

With time, tastes and priorities change. Just tonight, I went to see Kiss perform. In this city, this is apparently a big deal as I couldn't even get within 300ft of the stage an hour before the band hit the stage. For a few minutes, I thought "I'm getting screwed, I deserve more for my $16!!" A few songs in, I found that I could enjoy the music just as well from the back of the park. Later, I grew a little tired of this "act" that I could have sworn I saw bit "farewell" over 9 years ago and chose to move onto other stages and was able to enjoy three other bands with much more space and peace.

All this is to say that we were all "new fans" at one point in time. What this ultimately means is very subjective. Some of us "older fans" - I think that my join date is 2001-02, although I started listening to PJ in 1994 - seem preoccupied with complaining about not securing certain items or having difficulty getting tickets while these "new fans", based on their posts, seem content with just getting an album in stores or being in the venue. I know that I'll be enjoying this summer's Toronto show even with my "bad luck" that befalls me at the 10C ticket window that has my best seat being in row V of an amphitheatre!!.

I started listening to Pearl Jam's music in 2004 in highschool. Joined 10c in 2008 when I found there was one. Doesn't mean I don't love them anyless than the next fan. :)

does anyone else remember syndergarden? sometimes i miss the old red and black synergy board, but even back in 2000 people would argue over petty issues.

sometimes i feel like we need to appreaciate each other and our likenesses more instead of arguing and making negative, sometimes hurtful comments to others because their opinion differs from our own.

sent my money in by snail mail in dec 97 to get the xmas single. actually processed in jan '98, they still still sent me the xmas single :)

First fan club tickets I bought were for Missoula '98.. I didn't wait all that long to use my ticket buying privledges :)

the year you "joined" is the year you joined the message pit....not the tenclub.

Wow, I joined the Pit in 1998.
A severed foot is the ultimate stocking stuffer.
  • And just to clarify my initial thought, it speaks volumes about the popularity of the band to have the place flooded with late joiners.

In my case, I joined in 93ish...and lost my number in '97 due to real life. I'd trade in my Vitalogy Ambulance pop-up anytime for my original number ;/

Nice that most people assumed I meant it negatively...sad.

Hahah, yes. I do try. It's tough when we sometimes get told where we can shove our love.

It's so weird to me to see threads disentegrate so quickly now. (you would probably know that better than me) I don't know. Maybe they always have and I never noticed. But it seems like more arguments break out over the most ridiculous things. And that's not just this board, either. I see it on other boards, and I see it in the younger people I work with. Everyone just seems a bit more polarized and quick to defend their egos.

Oh well. Love them till they catch on, I guess! :) it's funny , I'm 32, and the 23-26 year olds at work all think I'm a hippie.

The love's gone cold from the top down, Kat.

I don't mean you and Sea - you both used to participate way more, though, and I miss that. As far as I'm aware, you're just doing your jobs. But I think you'd have to admit that things have changed, and it's not entirely due to the fans. The the lack of clear communication (lottery for Chicago/Toronto, most recently) has a lot to do with the negative vibe here. Causing frustration in people is not good for a community.

Not new at all. Caught on in 92 when I was 14. Joined the club in 95 (149XXX). I always hung out in the old AOL chat room, the Porch, til it phased out. Then I posted on the old AOL boards and newsgroups til they died. Followed the newsgroup to Google. Now it has died. Just recently started to get involved here but moreso for news rather than just chillin. All of my old online Pearl Jam friends aren't really around anymore.
    Peace,

Yeah these little "joined Dates" on our avatars are inaccurate.

I am 30 now, and have been a hardcore PJ fan since Ten/Vs, and have been a fully paid up member of Tenclub since 1999 and have been looking on this forum since it started, but my Avatar states I joined in 2006 - Not true! I'm no newbie

I think I have quite a low membership number considerering I'm from UK.

I'm so excited about this new album people, I think were gonna be blown away by the Got Some Studio version, and The Fixer (from the All Star clip I heard sound great)
Brendon O'brien has always been my favourite producer, considering his earlier PJ work, and not forgeting the awesome Stone Temple Pilots albums he has produced.

I remember the Vitalogy Health Club (as tenclub was called during that era) yellow card postcard with the ambulance on the front as well!
Remember getting posted through my door back in the mid nineties.

Also who remembers the Old style Tenclub T-shirt with the little orange skater dude on the front, I have two of those but could never wear it cause it massive and still doesn't fit me now. Wife uses it for a night dress!

I think you might be answering your own question here.

You joined in 1998 and say you never log on... now, think about it carefully and you'll find your answer!
we're all going to the same place...
  • i've been a fan since 91 but joined the message board only a few years ago. no biggie.

Same here, I am a fanatic ask my friends. Before I knew the ten club existed I would buy tickets off of ebay. I know I belong here because I was flying across the country to watch the band from Florida, like most of you I am willing to travel to see my favorite band in the world.

Became a serious fan the day I first saw them 06/03/06 at East Rutherford 2 when I was 17. Kind of liked them for a few years and even though I knew about 4 of the songs that were played I was instantly hooked. Had the last seat in Continental yet couldn't have been happier. Kind of miss those days as it gets so easy for fans to get hissy over a slight bump in the road.

This is the show I flew up to from Florida! Awesome set I still play the bootleg over and over in my car.

been on the board for almost 10 years now so I wouldn't call myself a young fan at this point.. been in the 10c since 2001. Just had many different usernames kept having to change it so thats why it says 2005 on the joined part on the side.

A lot of us are not new members but lost the join date when we did all this switching thing... I joined back on 2000 when we were on the BBS and then transitioned to to the other 2 boards we had before, I had created 2 handles on the last board and when we switched they both got merged together, I even had to modify my name because it would let me post under my old name cause it said it was already in use, so I was left with the join date of 2005.
