rows 9 & 10, rows 1 & 2

Anyone know or have an idea if rows 1 & 2 are only drawn for people who qualify to sit in rows 8-3 and 9 & 10 are only drawn for people who qualify for 11-XX ? Or are both lotteries all inclusive to members?

    It includes all members.

I'm 376*** and I got 9th row last year at Hartford.

Those rows are "randomly" filled with all 10c members.

I think locals seemed to get a bit of preferential treatment.

Right but ordinarily you would have had row 11-xx.

So i guess my question is: Has anyone with a number simular to yours scored rows 1 or 2?

Also, you can't be downgraded... like if you usually get 3rd row seats, they won't give you 10th row because you "won" the lottery for 10th row seats.

hopefully that doesnt happen at the chicago show! They said it would be by senority and there would be no lottery now there is. How did the lottery work last time? I think things could get messed up with it. say u have a low number are you in the lottery or no? id like to know.

    no, they don't.
it is RANDOM. that means completely, utterly 100% RANDOM. so no one group gets preferential treatment. more locals may end up winning simply b/c more local 10c members are probably in ATTENADANCE than any other members. MSG last year, it was like the united nations in the first 2 rows.....and no, i wasn't in there, and i am a NYer. however, this NYer did win 10th row dead center at the first mansfield show.

and no, if you usually would sit in the first 8 rows, you will NOT get 'randomly selected' to be in rows 9 or 10, pushed further back.

i truly wish 10c would make the random seating description a perma-sticky, b/c it gets asked each time. not trying to push down discussion :P...just be nice to have the info clearly at the ready for anyone interested. i just recall when it first was implemented, it was discussed a lot, and thus a lot was clarified.

random seating is not in effect for toronto or the chicago shows, those are pure seniority.

and even with the random lottery, ALL other rows ARE seniority-based, so at most, pushed back 2 or 4 rows...depending on your #.....with an equal chance as anyone else in attendance of hitting the lottery!

btw - he didn't freak...he answered your question. it's a lottery for ALL members. if it were broken down as you asked, it would have been specified. it wasn't, therefore it is open to all members....meaning: ANy member # has an equal chance of winning the first or second row.....and all members who would sit behind row 8 have an equal shot at getting rows nine or ten.

ALL 10C members that were able to get tickets are in the lottery. You won't know if you hit the lottery until you pick up your tickets. If you are in either rows 1, 2, 9 or 10 you hit the lottery. Seniority will NOT be used for any of those rows.

Hmmm...Well, they must have changed their mind after the fact because this is what that ticket announcement stated:

"Ten Club tickets are for reserved seating and will be allocated by seniority. Seat locations will be reserved from the 1st row on the floor, extending back, and the side sections closest to the stage. The longer you have been in the fan club, the closer your seats will be to the stage. Newer members should not expect prime seat locations. Proximity to the stage is contingent on the amount of members in attendance. Seat location is NOT revealed prior to the performance." http://www.pearljam.com/news/two-more-pearl-jam-tour-dates-added

Sounds like straight up seniority to me...

Based on some of the posts on this board - ex. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=103380&hilit=toronto+lottery - it seems as if the lottery system is going to be the norm for shows. Even though I'm not really a fan of this, ultimately, being four rows further back doesn't really hurt all that badly.

If proper LOGIC is applied to the "Random" system (for rows 1,2 and 9,10), then:

First, the 10C folks randomly select from ALL 10C ticket holders, the winners for Rows 1 and 2.

Then the 10C fills Rows 3 thru 8 by seniority from the remaining 10C ticket holders. This prevents anyone with seniority from getting Rows 9 or 10 (i.e. if they should get rows 3-8 instead of 9 or 10).

Then the 10C randomly selects from the remaining 10C ticket holders to fill up Rows 9 and 10.

The rest of the seats are then filled by seniority from the remaining pool of 10C ticket holders.

doesn't sound very random. if there is preference to seniority for the row 9-10 lottery, then 10c knows who is sitting where and assigns seats. random would mean every ticket pair purchased would have an equal chance for row 1-2 or 9-10 irregardless of the #.

    just sayin.

That's just semantics. What Olderman stated is the correct and fair way. So I guess it's not random then if it's just 4 rows technically(1, 2, 9, & 10) instead of all the seats.

    Just sayin' ;)

all i can say reading this, is thank god in the uk, its usually standing up front, therefore no need to worry about what row your going to be seated in,(for those who want to get up front). okay seating may be more comfortable, but i'd rather be standing any day

I really hope the lottery is the norm going forward. I think it is a great, great system. If you have been a 10C member since 92 then yes you have pretty much have been front row 17 years. So you may be 3rd row for a few shows. THATS STILL AMAZING. I appreciate that the beauty of a PJ show is the energy of the fans. It starts at row 1 with an intensity that is not matched at any other major live show and spreads like a contagion to row 2, row 3, row 10 people still rocking the f out and to row 30 and its so intense that it spreads all the way to the very back and top of the arena and the band feeds off of it and gives us an amazing show in return. It is a show for the fans helped created by the energy of the fans. But jaded 15 year 10C veteran, I ask you, what about the pure joy, sheer elation of someone already pumped to be seeing this amazing live band suddenly realizing they are front row. THAT IS INTENSE. Those people who were coming into the show with a level 10 intensity anyway, are now at a 13, That is the BEAUTY of the lottery. I really think its fair and you will still have an amazing show from the 3rd row, should you have gotten bumped back a row or two. Some people may have been 5 years old in 1992, but that doesn't mean they wont be ecstatic to get a random front row seat. They shouldn't be penalized to potentially have the opportunity (to sit way up close) that you have had multiple, multiple times just because they weren't even born. Some people may have gotten into the band later on, but that doesnt make them any less of a fan. The most important thing is that the 10C system gives the best seats to the real fans and avoids stiffs who scalp tickets from knocking down the level of intensity. I truly hope the lottery stays, although I've never won it, I can still hope!

I love the system too! Haven't won it yet, but just having the chance to sit in the frist 10 rows is great. I've been a fan since the start, but really didn't understand the whole importance of seniority (I'm a slow learner) so I let my membership lapse twice and have a high number. My husband was 7 when PJ hit the scene...so was more into legos than the concerts at the time :P I hope they keep the system - still guarantees people with seniority great seats, but gives the rest of us a chance. I'd also be in favor of a system that assigns seats in order of height...guarantees us short folks a seat up front...you tall guys will have no problem seeing right over my head :D I don't need to be REAL close to the stage...I just want to be able to SEE!
