Thanks for the great explanation! It is just a shame that all of these facilities have to be 100% public funded while the owner of the sports teams and the players are/were getting paid maybe a little too well. It just seems weird to me that Seattle does not have a "current generation" arena and that they lost the Sonics.
We do have the new Showare Center arena for minor league hockey. It only seats maybe around 8,000 though. Nice place though. I thought it would have been cool to see PJ do 3 or 4 shows there, like they are doing in L.A.

I would not be surprised if the arenas in the 8,000 to 15,000 seat range don't become more attractive to bands. Many bands are having trouble filling these larger arenas and ticket prices seem like they are continuing to increase.

It'd be really cool if they play Rival on one of the nights
    Shows:
    Seattle Key Arena 9-21-2009

  • I'm real happy Pearl Jam is finally playing Seattle again! The Gorge is not Seattle, especially for those of us who don't have a car. Hey, how about biodiesel concert buses for fans to the Gorge from Seattle and Spokane?

Maybe the confusion on the 2002 Key Arena concerts was that they were benefit shows (I seem to recall for a world hunger organization?) with other bands including REM (who were supposedly the headliners). No fan club pre-sale, but tickets were on sale at Ticketmaster outlets and I had no trouble getting one.

At least they played Portland before the last Gorge show, where I can get to by Amtrak (or could have by Greyhound as well). Still, it's nice not to have to add travel expenses, especially for a band that lives here. It's kind of crazy they rarely play here, not matter what their beef is with Key Arena.
