Philly Poll: Tailgate vs. Restaurant/Bar Pre-Party?

Foxy MopFoxy Mop Posts: 2,823
edited July 2009 in The Porch
Assuming that the cheese steak tweet hint means they will announce Philly show(s), we wanted to find what most people would prefer in terms of pre-party location - tailgate party or McFadden's/Dirty Franks (or another bar potentially?)

If the vote goes to tailgating, we'd want to get started on working with the venue ASAP as the process takes some time (nothing like being too prepared!!)

Things to consider:

Tailgate Pros: fun times, relaxed huge party atmosphere, it's Philly, capital of tailgating :D
Tailgate Cons: porta-potties, possible rain/cold, Spectrum red-tape (for us to have a 'tent/raffle' scenario at least)

Bar Pros: no weather concerns, bathrooms, finding people easily, food/drink served to you
Bar Cons: over-crowding, cover charge (though we can try to negotiate that), distance

So....

VOTE TAILGATE

or

VOTE BAR

Tailgate, tailgate, tailgate, tailgate, tailgate. I cannot stress this enough.

Though, like I said before, the bar at 15th and Pine should be used at some point in the weekend. It's called Dirty Frank's. Stick that in your Spectrum and smoke it.

And Halloween last year was the nicest day in October. We had a party on Broad Street - me and almost 3 million other people. Forget what it was for though.... ;)

If it's for 3 night's, do all three nights @ the same bar or change it up?

It would probably be easiest at the same bar, but we could mix it up

  • TAILGATE hands down--bars can be done when it's snowing *eh eh eh*
Really, I'm all for being outdoors vs. inside a bar.

TAILGATE !! More room. As bars go , I like Chickie and Petes ( Crab Fries), though McFaddens location at Citizens Bank Park makes it a natural pre-party choice for indoor location

    Definitely a tailgate.

If the consensus is bar, however, I'd recommend something around Broad and Lombard, which is an easy and straight shot to the Spectrum on the subway. Dirty Frank's is a bit further than that but do-able.

    i usually prefer a bar.
tailgating is fun, but i find it difficult to truly 'meet' new people/mingle....tend to stay in your spot. also, is philly a tailgating place? idk, i just assumed as a city that it wouldn't really have space for it, but reading many posts in here, i guess i am mistaken. :P i would've thought public transport was the way to go, but what do i know...i'm a NYer. :D either way, i still prefer bars!

What about tailgating pre-party, bar post-party? Would that be feasible?

since i volunteered for one of these amazing pre parties, whatever gets me inside to hear ed come out by himself before the opener as stress free as possible! with that said, whatever works out best based on the responses of the bars in the area and/or what the spectrum says. Having it inside Bullies would be ideal since that bar is in the Spectrum, but that assumes there is no PJ cover band playing there again!

I vote for having it at a bar...same bar all three nights.

    That's fair enough - pre-party tailgate, and post-party at Dirty Frank's.

Meh, like 50. Not a huge amount, but it's such the poignant place to have a party. Ah well, maybe at some point during the week people will meet up there for the hell of it.

I believe Dirty Frank's is somewhere in Center City...might be hard for people to get to from The Spectrum in a timely fashion but might work out for those who can hang post show into all hours of the night (me not being one of them!)

Yeah, it really would be a sin to do anything else before the show. A sin.

Is there not a large enough bar to accommodate a huge crowd in the area? I'm up for whatever, honestly, but wondering why there isn't a big enough place...

It was for the two days of GAME FIVE of the World Series(cold and rainy), but during the PARADE(WOOOOO!) it was absolutely beautiful. The point being it's a crapshoot, but it's definitely not as cold as it's in New England. You get longer Indian summers in Philly.

Dirty Frank's is a hike for most people. I live like 8 blocks from there, but I'll just be walking across the street to McFadden's after the show until the parking lot empties out like I did in '05 after Wachovia.
