I hate "Red Sox Nation" but I have to give them credit

Go to espn.com and check the poll of the day...who's better Sox or Dodgers

Red Sox Nation just dominated the poll...I mean we know the Dodgers are better, but the Sox are playing good as well. The whole Northeast, East, and Mid West just dominated and even internationally

That said...

Yankees are one game back. Yankees are playing better than the Sox right now. I know we haven't beaten you yet, but fuck you. I can't wait til Hughes starts

  • sucks they dont play each other until next month. the sox could use a nice 3-4 game win streak :P

and for the record.. i think the sox are the better team. the dodgers are in the national league.. there's so many terrirble teams as opposed to the AL.. ie. Arizona, San Deigo, Pittsburgh, Houston, Colorado, New York, Washington

the American League has truly 4 bad teams.. Baltimore, Cleveland, Kansas City, and Oakland
I will be what i could be

I loathe the Red Sox. The Yankees for years ruled baseball in terms of arrogance, but at least they had the history to back it up. I didn't like them, but you had to respect them. The Red Sox win a pair of World Series rings after a 100 year drought or so and they act like God's gift to the game. Their fans are annoying as shit apologists, and their players have less class than any team I've watched this season. They've got the most obnoxious bandwagon fanbase of any sports team I ever heard of. Fuck the Sox.

the thing is ... the idea of the red sox fan is completely over blown. Thanks to Fox and ESPN (and EVERY show on ESPN). They always play up the Sox fan persona. But, what, 90+% of us are not like that.

Did you see the standing ovation the crowd gave Nomar the other night in his first AB as a visitor. Classy stuff.

Sure, there are a handful of douchebags, and quite a few others have jumped on the bandwagon ... unfortunately, they speak louder than the vast majority of the fan base which are passionate, but respectful.

LA fans are at the beach enjoying the nice weather year round. Why would they care what an espn poll says.

Seriously Red Sox and Yankee Fans and other NE baseball team fans are much MUCH more rabid about the teams then other fan bases are.

Who are these players on the current Sox that you think have no class?
I could understand when we had Manny, Pedro and Schilling, but not now.
Papelbon is the only one I could think of.

The real point is, why would ANYONE care what an ESPN poll says?

ESPN is crap ... Their "news" broadcast is nothing more than marketing, a commercial, so you will watch what they program.

Why do you think it was impossible to find good hockey coverage on ESPN, even during the palyoffs? (arguably one of the better playoffs in the past decade). Because ESPN doesn't cover it. But, if they ever get the rights to the NHL back, I'll bet the coverage will go up dramatically.

have to agree...and it may be a minority but it's a vocal and obnoxious minority

and as for the sox dominating the poll over the dodgers...we don't have to participate in some silly poll...we know we're one of the greatest franchises in baseball :D

because of his republican views, people think he faked the bloody sock incident and the fact he cannot shut up, many think he has no class.

He's annoying, no doubt, but that doesn't mean he has no class. He does a LOT to combat ALS.

And espn and fox have sorta taken away that fanbase persona and given the public this idea that sawx fans are holier then thou fan. You guys are loyal people and have put up with alota shit in the past 80 years and more recent with alota bandwagon fans . I'm so thankful my team won't ever have bandwagon fans, cause let's face it the mets are still the mets not matter if they win 2 or 3 times in a 5 year span.

I saw something yesterday on ESPN where the question was "Are the Mets the New Red Sox"? Based on all of 2 years of crappy Septembers no doubt.

I think they are going to play the Mets fans as the "long suffering" fans ...

We know it's Cubs fans which are the "most tortured" so to speak ... but, I think ESPN would love to create this new Mets fan persona for their New York media market.

Such a love hate relationship with ESPN ... mostly hate.

I agree with pretty much all of this except the part with the Red Sox players having no class. Well except Papelbon, that guy is just an obnoxious fuck who needs to act like he has been there before. It's easy for an AL closer to show up hitters like he does when there's pretty much a 0% chance that he'll be batting.

You wouldn't get it because you're the epitome of the blind, apologist Sox fans. None of their players can do any wrong... I've seen you do it here plenty of times.

But I'm thinking Beckett, Youkilis, Papelbon... all behaving like children on the field. Beckett beaning people, Youkilis throwing junior high tantrums when he gets thrown out at first. He's a short fuse thug. And all of them play with an air of arrogance and childish entitlement. I can't remember the other guy I'm thinking of. I've watched almost every game the Tigers have played this season, and the only time I've been utterly disgusted with the behavior of players was when they played the Red Sox. And that includes the time they brawled with another team and got shelled by fans at a Blue Jays games. Nobody looked more petty and whiny than the Red Sox.

PLEASE, look man ALL teams have their share of knuckleheads the Red Sox included. All teams have players that blow their fuses from time to time and if one ot those players happened to be traded to your team to help win a championship. I doubt if you will jump ship if that was done.

I don't expect them to be saints, but you don't have to be a saint to show class. The Tigers managed to keep even Kenny Rogers in line when he played there. The Yankees players always conduct themselves like professionals. The Red Sox don't even seem to make an effort. And like I said, every team might have knuckleheads, but I've never seen it so on display as it is with the Red Sox. There may be one or two occasionally having outbursts on other teams, but it seems to be the team ethos for the Sox and their manager seems to encourage it.

as much as the "typical Red Sox Fan" persona has been created ... so has the "typical Red Sox hater" persona ... man, the haters are out in full.

So, Youkilis is an excitable guy, is that really a bad thing? He's not showing up other players (well, maybe Joba, but that's a different issue involving an inordanate amount of beanings)

Hell, I can't name one person outside of Yankees fans that like Paul O'Neill ... but, Yanks fans ADORE that guy.

It's passion. Passion to excel, passion for the game ... passion to win.

PLEASE, look man ALL teams have their share of knuckleheads the Red Sox included. All teams have players that blow their fuses from time to time and if one ot those players happened to be traded to your team to help win a championship. I doubt if you will jump ship if that was done.

These players aren't all saints we take them as they are and root for them when they wear the uni you love. Atleast in my case.

I don't expect them to be saints, but you don't have to be a saint to show class. The Tigers managed to keep even Kenny Rogers in line when he played there. Ok then enjoy yourself and have yourself a good day. :)

do you even WATCH the red sox?

the ethos of their manager is to encourage it? Terry Francona? REALLY? What does Francona do to encourage outbursts?

Yankees conduct themselves with profesionalism? Joba DUI, Arod (nuf said), and there are a few whiners on that team ... I'm not singling out the Yankees, just stating your claim that the Ynakees are "professionals" doesn't always hold true.

Now I just think this is blind hatred (jealousy) for a winner here. Hatred of them being over exposed.

Wasn't Gary Sheffield on your 2007 and 2008 Tigers??
Gary Sheffield and class I guess go hand and hand.

Also the last I checked the Yankees have a guy named A-Rod and I don't think many people
    would call him a professional

But as with Kenny Rogers, the Tigers managed to keep a moron like that pretty subdued during his time on the team.
