For East Coasters, how busy is I-95 on a Saturday?

If I can make any show, it would be the one on Saturday in Philly. I'd have to leave work in the middle of the day. Mapquest says 4.5 hours (and have to drive thru DC and Baltimore).

Do you think on Saturday that I-95 is better or worse than Mapquest's suggested time?

I'm bringing this up on The Porch because I think a lot of us will be using I-95 and traveling on Saturday.

:)
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

It dependds on how bad the construction in Deleware is, and if there are any accidents. Normally, not bad traffic.

  • I suggest getting EZ pass for your car, makes the tolls easier!

95 always sucks around Philly. Especially if there is a big event going on.
    Go Birds!!!!
  • Yeah. I would also make sure to leave some extra time. I have had some terrible drives on 95 during time that I thought it would be OK.

Once you get past the few exits of Delaware, take 495. There's never traffic on it, it's shorter, and it feeds right back into 95 once you cross the PA state line.

Let me put it this way, bring a book. EZpass or no, there will be spots where you sit.

Just an FYI, the northside of Baltimore and 95 is all jacked up right with ongoing construction for all the new overpasses. Things have still been running ok, but not optimal. As someone mentioned, EZ Pass is the key. The tunnels are often backed up on the weekends for 1/2 mile or more while the EZ Pass lane is always clear.

just leave an hour earlier than you think and you will be alright. Friday night/evening before the show will be worse.

95 in delaware is ALWAYS backed up. and you can never know what will happen with the tunnel in baltimore.

Not sure, it works for everyone but sitting back and relaxing on a train is the best. Obviously arrival and dept. times etc. might be a problem. However, it beats sitting in traffic for a few hours

That's why you NEVER take 95 through Delaware. Take 495. It swings around 95, you can go faster, and you end up right back on 95 in PA.

I live near and drive accident alley in Pennsylvania and Delaware daily . I agree wholeheartedly with those who say leave yourself several extra hours, the better to party if you're early, or take the train ..and subway once you hit Philly.
