Didn't they basically tour for Chinese Democracy before the album came out?
    NERDS!
  • Yeah, but Axl is a piece of work. They were supposed to tour this year. It would be nice to hear the new songs live. It's the next best thing to the original line-up. They're a GN'R cover band with the original singer.

Would you honestly pay to go and see the CD tour? I mean really?

It'll probably cost more than the PJ shows, and your getting nothing more than a tribute act, reliving its past glories. I loved G N R, but that thing now is not the band we loved. Its really quite pathetic.

I wouldnt go bagging a GNR live show, i saw them in 07, and it was one of the best concerts i had been to.
Axl still knows how to sing and put on a good show.

I actually had most people there tell me it was BETTER then when they toured in 93(i was only 3 so i couldnt go) with the original band, so yeah i wasnt disapointed.

I think PJ and GN'R concerts can be similar. I've seen the old GN'R three times and the new GN'R three times. I've seen PJ eight times. The new GN'R had some shows that were just as good, if not better then the old band. The thing is there are just some nights when Eddie and Axl are just a bit more on and it makes for a special night. I've been lucky enough to witness this from both singers.

You also have the element of you never know what your going to get. The old GN'R changed the set list on the spot just like PJ still does. That makes it nice to catch multiple shows. The new GN'R is much safer in the set lists, but you still never know how Axl is going to act. Someone hit him with a quarter at the start of the Detroit 06 tour and I thought he was going to go off and he brushed it off pretty easily. Needless to say, I'll catch both acts as many times as possible!

I too saw a show recently, 07 I believe, and i think 2003 or 2004 at the Leeds Festival.

Sure it was ok, but it was nothing out of the ordinary. And to compare it to the 92/93 days when GNR were arguably the biggest band in the world selling out stadiums is impossible. This new thing is a new band, on its own merits its not bad, the album wasnt great though when it finally arived and as a result i wouldnt rush to see them as I'd be going to see the old songs again, and despite the stand in muscians doing a good job playing the old classics, its just not the same and you always miss the Slash interjecttion and spontaneity.

Then again we have digressed into something that should now be moved to the other forum!!!

I not sure how not knowing if Axl wil storm off can make the gig exciting???

I think it's the whole Axl suspense issue. Will he show and how long will you have to wait for him to show. I just builds as the wait continues and then he hits the stage and prooves why the wait was worth it. I saw a bad Guns show in 92 when they were huge, but in 93 they were pretty darn good when they went from football stadiums to basketball arenas. I saw the band on fire in 02 and then when Patience didn't go right, Axl left and didn't come back. I know that puts a bad taste in the mouth of some and I understand. I just know what I could be in for when I buy the ticket.

At least we can agree on something :D

When they don't come on stage till close to midnight, a couple of hours after Sebaastian Bach from Skid Row (Support act)came off stage, didn't get the night off on the right note.

The last GNR show I was at was Detroit 06. Axl took the stage really early that night for a GN'R show. He even commented on it how this was like morning to him and he was happy to be everyone's Captain Kangaroo. He even called Tommy Stinson Mr. Greenjeans. He was in a great mood that night. This was the same show where he got hit by the quarter. He pretty much told the guy it must be just like shooting fish in a barrel. Later in the night he thanked everyone except the cunt who threw stuff at him.

I've lost faith in Axl as well. He's not going to get any of my hard earned scheckles before he can prove he will put on a good show (which I doubt will ever happen again). I don't do the wait till 12:30 am to come on stage thing anymore either. Not cool.

The one thing with the wait is in his own mind he is not ready. I would rather wait and have him perform when he thinks he's ready then to have him rushed and have a less then stellar show. I'm glad not all bands are like this, but if I'm going to a show, I'm up all night anyway.

its cool that you dont mind him wasting your fucking time....

but to me its Axl being a twat.

I have nothing against the guy usually, I love his work etc, but the fact he does this usually night after night, and did it in his heyday night after night, sucks. He's a performer, hes a professional, and hes being paid a lot of cash to get up there and do his job. When he feels it necessary everuy night to be a idiot, and sit there letting the fans wait and wait while he gets his head straight is shitty. There can be no excuses. Why on earth doesnt he just announce the gig will start at 12? is that because it would then start at 2am....

I saw GnR at Hammerstein Ballroom on May 12 2006... It was Axl's first show in 4 years and it was by far, the best vocal performance I have ever heard. After every song, you could see everyone looking at eachother with their hands on their heads saying "holy shit!" When he let out the opening scream to Welcome to the Jungle, we thought someone had sounded an air siren - no lie. Up until that show the best vocal performance I had ever seen was PJ's gigs at Randall's Island in '96. Hate to say it, but Axl topped it. Then again, we saw the new GnR two days later, and his vocals were turned way down in the mix b/c it was probably blown.

Heh, pretty much. I saw them on New Year's '01 - doors opened at 1am and Axl showed up to start the show at around 3:30am. The sun was rising as people were leaving the venue afterwards.
