Patient Seattle Fan Getting Frustrated

Ok, first let me start by saying that I love PJ and they can really do no wrong in my eyes, AND I have been fortunate to catch them in other cities over the past few years. But for God's sake, what in the hell is it going to take to get a Seattle show? I agree that the tweet did NOT sound promising for some West shows, so something tells me Seattle is a no go.

The only thing I can think of is that Key Arena really is a crappy venue, especially from a sound quality perspective. Also, Seattle audiences are kind of lame (no offense, but it is true) and I think the band has even made comments about that...
Oh well, I guess I will just wait and see.

ya know...i often wonder why they don't play in and around Seattle much more..there must be something to the things you mentioned (about the crowds and venues) i mean being from Boston i can't complain...it works out very well..being a PJ fan and living in the Northeast...but you guys don't get love as much as you'd think you would.

I understand your woe. I've lived by Seattle for about 5 years now, and I've only had the opportunity to see Pearl Jam once, when they played down at the Gorge. I will admit it was the best PJ show I've ever seen, but still: 5 years is a long time not to play in your home city.

I wouldnt take what mike says with a grain of salt :mrgreen:

I think the TWEET confirms west coast shows " As the sun was setting in the west, we had a visit from a little birdie who seemed like he was in a great hurry" I think that means that WC shows have been worked out and that they will also be adding some Philly and Aussie shows.

At the same time, it's unusual to have ZERO rumours regarding the west coast. We've got Philly rumours galore, and even a (supposed) copy of an e-mail between promotors alerting them to be aware of upcoming PJ shows in Australia, but nothing at all about the west coast. Kudos to the band if they've successfully figured out how to eliminate leaks for the west coast, but sadly, I feel like given the amount of people involved in making a show happen is great enough that the chances of having no information leaked is slim to none.

    Thems are fightin' words.

Obviously, you are speculating and have absolutely no idea as to what you are talking about.

Key Arena is on par with every other basketball/hockey arena in the country for sound. And it is probably ahead of the curve with seating configuration. Pearl Jam, let alone countless of many other big named bands have had quite spectacular shows there in the past. Key Arena management is another story from what I hear, and Jeff Ament has hinted at that being the biggest reason they haven't played there since 2002.

And the crowds argument is just rude and completely unfounded. Considering we, the Puget Sound region fans, make upwards of 90% of The Gorge crowds, I would say our crowd energy is tip top!! We could rival any NE crowd any day of the week and twice on Sunday's!!!

Seriously. No harm intended. I live in Seattle and have been to all Key Arena shows, as well as the Gorge. I have also been to MSG, Civic Aud in SF, Aloha Stadium, and Wembley Arena, to name a few, so I kind of know what I'm talking about - or at least have a basis for my opinion.

ok...that person just questioned the sound of the venue and made a broad generalization about seattle crowds.

Yeah, both points he made are completely unfounded and untrue. There is no factual evidence at all to back up his claims. In fact, I have witnessed evidence that would claim the exact opposite of his claims. That we as Seattle crowds goes are some of the loudest crowds that will drive 200 miles across our state without bitching, and come out in full force. I have seen PJ and many other bands all over Seattle and the crowds have never been an issue as far as lack of energy or lack of getting into the show.

And the Key Arena argument is also false as i have already stated.

Give me a link or a quote to anyone in the band stating that Seattle crowds are lame. It just doesn't exist.

No offense Animal but I have to agree with the OP's statement about the crowds. Concidering this is a hometown band I would think the crowds whould be MUCH better. I've been lucky enough to see 80+ shows including shows in Seattle proper in '96, '98x2, '00x2, '01(Groundwork not offical PJ Show), 02x2. And aside from the 2nd night in '00 I thought all the crowds were sub-par. Now to be fair I've found that the crowds at all 3 shows at the Gorge were well above average. It would not surprise me at all if this has played a roll into them not playing there often over the past few years.

Im surprised at how much pessimism there is about the West getting some love- although I have no proof, its seems like a no-brainer that the West will get some more shows because of the "current info" thread started by Tim that specifically mentions the "western US". Also, they have not really played any significant West gigs since 06. Im thinking: open in Missoula (yeah!) as they have in the past, followed by the Gorge, some Canadian shows and Seattle love- then maybe a few more West of the Mississippi. Oh yeah, Jeff said on a local radio station in March that they are playing "the west, the south and a few shows in Europe".....

You can do what I did three years ago and leave Seattle and move near Chicago. I thought my days of seeing PJ were going to far and few but it has somehow worked out very well for me

They really do need to play the Key again sometime soon. I saw them in 01 (groundworks) and thought it was amazing. Also, consecutive nights at the Paramount would be awesome.

Saw the 98 shows and 02 shows in Seattle, they are on the bottom of my list as far as crowds go and I have seen close to 100 concerts in my life. Gorge crowds ARE NOT SEATTLE CROWDS!!!! For the last time people, the Gorge is NOT Seattle. With that said no one knows why they dont play Seattle except for the band.

Yeah, i think you are getting into apples and oranges. Take PJ out of the equation. I don't think any more people travel here to see PJ at the Gorge than they would or have to see PJ in Seattle. So yeah, I still believe that.
