Please all, give me your opinion on this.....

I love to see the boys live just as much as the next fan, BUT do you really wanna go see them BEFORE the new album is released?

They most likely will play half of the new album (if not more) and it will be TOTALLY ruined come release date....

Any others feel this way?

no no no no....very petty reason not to go see them.

why on earth will it be ruined exactly? :S:S

And how certain are you that they will play at least half of the new album.

    Au contraire my friend!!!

Nothing's better than seeing a band playing new songs. Live versions are always better (most of the time) than studio versions. I'm pretty sure they'll play one or two new songs in Toronto and at that point, I know I'll be damn excited to get the new album.

Playing half the album? Don't push your luck! It will be 2, maybe 3 new songs MAX! I'm just hoping that they'll play some songs that are not usually on their regular setlists like Tremor Christ, Smile, Army Reserve and so on...!

I hope you guys are right....

I agree about live versions SOMETIMES being superior to studio, but to me nothing is better than enjoying a new pj album with headphones on first listen.....

Im 29 YO by the way, how old is the wise ass in this thread?

Vitalogy was absolutety RUINED before its release....the entire alb was basically played live during the VS tour

I am looking forward to hearing the new songs in Chicago. I got to hear The End twice on the solo tour, if anything, it has made me look forward to the studio version more.

i'm just teasing... personally, i don't mind hearing new stuff live before i hear studio versions... most bands break out new stuff at shows and i'm more than willing to listen to whatever pearl jam wants to play!

It didn't bother me before when I heard new/unreleased songs live, so this wouldn't bother me either. I'm just excited to see them. It's a great feeling knowing that I already have tickets (ACL) & that i'll be able to see them live at least once this year! i say bring on the new songs & more dates!

    I'm always pleasantly surpised when:

    1) Pearl Jam plays a song I've never heard live

    or extremely rarer:

    2) A song I can't identify :)

i definitely like to have a feel for the new songs before i hear them live... hopefully they stick to the tunes that we've already heard in some way... but i guess i wouldnt object to new new songs if they rock

with chicago and the release date about a month apart i wouldnt be surprised if theres a leak or a couple officially released singles by then *fingers crossed*

i agree, any chance to go see them live is one i try to take if possible. if songs from the new album are played in chi-town in august, then great, if not it will still be an awesome show. i'm sure we'll get a full tour sometime after the album release and hear the new songs then for sure

Gotta admit I'm kinda w/ ya. I'd definitely prefer having the new album prior to the Chicago shows I'm headin' to. However, the band will operate on their own accord and do what they like. Either way... they're not going to be playing a whole lotta shows over the course of the next 1-1.5 years so better catch 'em while ya can. I would guess this will mean no bootlegs immediately after the shows if new material gets played (which it no doubt will I'm sure).

Going over to see them in Rotterdam and it will be interesting to hear just how many new songs they will play and the reaction they get.
Given the choice I would have preferred to have  had the new album say the week before just to get the feel of it but hey I am not going to complain, PJ are in Europe again (and just maybe a full tour in 2010) .

I couldnt give a flying fuck if they play backspacer or not.

Hearing the songs live first in my opinion though may actually make the first listen to the album even better..

Although hearing new tunes at a gig is never easy, as it can kill the set, as the fans dont connect to the material in the way they do with the stuiff they heard before.

But again, as someone from the Uk, we have to take each and every chance we get to see these perform, so we cant exactly be picky. I'll go see them whenever i can, new album or not
  • I doubt they'll play "half the album" and besides, even if they do, fair play to them for trying it out on fresh ears and live!

Hang on a sec... "half an album" = approx 6/7 songs... that leaves approx another 15 - 20 old favourites to be played...

    I'm happy with that :D
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
