You guys did see that the 1st 3 WS reissues are on their way, right? And they're gonna be as good as you can get these days. Full on analog mastering.
Patiently waiting for Get Behind Me Satan.
Out-of-print in North America since 2005, the utmost care was taken in presenting these records in the best way possible.
We started by mastering each LP from the original analog master tapes, the first time this process had been used for any of these titles. While extremely labor-intensive, this method ensured that the material was never converted into a digital signal. The result is an audio quality that stiffens the hairs on the back of your neck.
We pressed each record on 180-gram vinyl, again, the first time any of these three albums have been afforded this superior vinyl weight.
For artwork, we started from scratch and went back and tracked down all the source material, working from the original photographic prints to provide the crispest versions possible of these album covers.
From there, we printed the artwork on the deluxe old-style, tip-on sleeves from the wonderful folks at Stoughton Printing in California. This process involves printing the artwork on on sheet of paper (a slick) which is then folded over and hand-glued to a heavy board blank jacket. The difference in the final product of a tip-on sleeve as opposed to a regular, direct-to-board sleeve is akin to the difference between hardcover and paperback books.
Also, for the first time ever, each record comes with a coupon for MP3 downloads of the entire album.
All these factors together makes these versions of The White Stripes, De Stijl and White Blood Cells the DEFINITIVE editions of these albums. These are the versions The White Stripes want people to have for posterity.
And to tickle the collectors, we pressed limited numbers of each title on split-color red and white vinyl. All three albums will be available on black vinyl for purchase from our online store starting on November 30th. The split-color and black vinyl of The White Stripes S/T LP will be available for purchase on November 30th in our Third Man Records store front, with the split-color and black vinyl of De Stijl and White Blood Cells to follow on December 7th and December 14th, respectively.
***We will do 250 copies of each split color vinyl in our Third Man store, 100 in random mailorders, and 100 of each release in a remote location related to each album the S/T LP in Detroit, De Stijl in the Netherlands, and White Blood Cells in Memphis. More details of those locations TBA... So stay tuned!!

I am not all that knowledgeable on mastering or vinyl, so what gives with going back to analog recording? why is that better?
It keeps the full dynamic range. The music is as close as possible to the original source of the music, not converted back and forth analog>to digital>back to analog. I dunno all the ins and outs, just what my ears like.
I'm definitely going to buy the reissues on black vinyl. I've given up on the split colors, if one comes in great, if not oh well. It used to get me worked up only to be dissapointed every time. I'll just wait for my Vault packages instead

i had it in my basket ...then didnt hit buy....just got a feeling alot of pj stuff to come ...got to cut back some where...whitestrips reissue will have to wait....
biut the new pressing are 180g or so i think...meant to be really nice
Yeah you do, If you look in the right spot. TMR will usually tell vault members what going to be in the next package a few weeks before the deadline (from my recent experience anyways)...most people take this info and post it on general WS forums. Check the little room or White Swirl and you can find what you're looking for.
Got my latest vault package and I must say its the least impressive of all so far. The Greenhornes album sounds great, but the package in whole is not all that.

I agree. I love the design of the shirt, but it's see through. The single is badass. The lp is kinda weak. It doesn't really feel TOO short, but it's barely 20 minutes.
Did anyone purchase the Third Man Records Record Player package that comes with various LP cases, portable turntable, and headphones? I am about to buy my first record player and am curious about the quality of the turntable provided in this package.

on the sound from the player i cant see it being stunning but knowning jack white it would not be shit either.

The WS sets sold out fast because they were limited to 333 sets. Limited = Flippable.
The TMR set is not limited and thus, crazy WS fans don't want it.
You thought Pearl Jam fans were crazy, you should see how crazy some of these WS fans are?!
As for the record player, it's certainly not a high end player...but it's not going to wreck your records or break after 6 months either. On a scale from 1 to 10 it's a 7. I would have bought it but I already have a player that's pretty equal to the one offered and I have a high end set of headphones. I did get a friend to pick up one of the TMR 7" boxes for me and I'm hoping I can get someone to pick up the 12" for me in the future as they're not available for purchase online.
I think the TMR set is nicer than the WS one. The WS ones sold out only because of the band's name and the limited run. (sound familiar?)
It is with extreme pride that Third Man Records announces its First Quarter Vault package for the year 2011.
As we dictated last year, each year will begin with a double-LP compilation of the previous year's singles. And we really did it up in 2010: the first-ever release by Karen Elson, more Dead Weather mayhem, Conan O'Brien's madness, Pujol, Laura Marling, Secret Sisters (man, let's take a breath here),the Greenhornes, Drakkar Sauna, Thornbills AND Wanda Jackson! Show us a better year of singles and we'll show you some magic beans. And don't forget the snazzy poster of the covers of ALL those records, to put right next to your 2009 singles poster.
Let's make this a tradition.
Our 7" for this package is a sick pairing of two classics by the 5.6.7.8's. These two songs were recorded late in the night at third man studio. The gals asked jack to play guitar with them, after jack asked if they could play one of his favoritesongs of theirs ‘I walk like jane mansfield” the gals then shot into these other two songs off the cuff. A little bit of Jerry Lee Lewis' "Great Balls of Fire" and "Hanky Panky" as made famous by Tommy James and the Shondells? Are we out of our minds? this 7" is a cool companion piece to the upcoming 5.6.7.8's Blue Series and live LP
coming in February.
We're sparing no expense for our third item in this package. As a tribute to two folks near and dear to our hearts who passed away this past year, don van vliet and sub pop vice president of sales and marketing Andy Kotowicz. we are ecstatic to announce the reissue of the White Stripes 7" covering Captain Beefheart, originally released as part of the Sub Pop Singles Club in 2001. Finally available again, these three songs ("Party of Special Things to Do", "China Pig" and "Ashtray Heart") are sickly paired with new artwork. If that's not enough, (and really, for you, it should be) we are also making this the first (and quite possibly last?) Tri-Color component of a Vault package. There will be no black vinyl pressing of this single and it will not be made available outside of the package. This will also be the first White Stripes Tri-Color, substituting the standard yellow sliver of our Third Man releases with the inimitable red that we've all known and loved for years. Many thanks to the kind folks at Sub Pop for helping make such a cool thing happen and if all goes right, be sure to buy the downloads of these songs from them when they make them available.
Be sure to get your subscription in before January 31st to guarantee yourself one of these mighty fine collections.
just curious as to whether the last vault package (greenhornes one) should of made it down to australia yet? It says 4-6 weeks should be here by at least the end of january right?

thanks guys.... I know it takes ages to receive stuff from the US in Oz sometimes....a few of my amazon packages have gone to europe then to new zealand before making their way across to me...now i just pay the little extra when its getting shipped.. stuff from the UK to down under only takes a week at the most though.
