OK - Got my Vault 18 yesterday. I did not know that the first LP is supposed to be brown (rawhide) until today but I swear mine is black. I will double check tonight. Secondly my LP 1 is marked "A" on both sides with the "A" tracklisting....Anyone else run into this?
Jim
My first disc looks almost black depending on the light, but is actually (once you get some light behind it) a very dark red-wine color, and slightly translucent. It's not nearly as pretty as the second disc (which was supposed to be what? Walnut, I think? Regardless, I love it). I didn't have any problems with mislabeled sides, and all songs are accounted for upon playing the record.

My disc is definetly black!
If you have a chance to make life better for others, and fail to do so, you are wasting your time on this earth.
Got my Vault package. Haven't listened or watched yet, though. My record is clearly not black, but bot far from it. Can't see any of the swirling, but when you hold it up to light there is quite a bit.
Think I'm most bummed about is lack of gatefold. Thirdman always has a much more complete package and this on falls a little short. Still cool stuff, but seems a notch below the rest of their stuff I have.
Passed on the last vault, but looking forward to this one. How are the new Dead Weather songs?

Always like more white stripes vinyl, but I prefer the old packaging style (LP, 7", other item). For $60 I expected more. On the fence about buying it, might pass. First I have to straighten out my vault #18, which was shipped but never arrived. Still waiting to hear back from Third Man.

And my vault #18 arrived a month after it was shipped. Psyched to open this up and spin it!

And these sleeves FEEL amazing. Employing a process called (we're not making this up) "soft touch aqueous coating" each of these glue-pocket sleeves feels like a hybrid between rubber and lambskin. It's difficult to describe, but immediately noticeable and amazing in person.
B-Side Information
The b-sides consist of covers of some of Detroit's most pre-eminent artists in 2003…
"Good to Me" written by Brendan Benson and Jason Falkner and originally released on Benson's 2002 album Lapalco.
"Who's to Say…" written by Dan Miller and released by his outfit Blanche in 2003 on their album If We Can't Trust the Doctors…
"St. Ides of March" written by the Soledad Brothers and released on their self-titled album of 2000.
As well as a White Stripes live medley of "I Fought Piranhas / Let's Build a Home" recorded at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in New York.
Each of these tracks has been remastered from the original analog sources, and in the case of "…March" and "Piranhas" where there were no analog masters, we used only the finest digital files that could withstand sitting unused on a hard drive for over ten years.

I am having a hard time justifying paying $60 for 4 7" records, especially because those b-sides don't really interest me. I wish they were doing a colored version of another WS album, such as Get Behind Me Satan.

Oh yeah? I'm not very familiar with Benson's stuff outside of the The Raconteurs. Will have to check it out. Might have to download it to avoid paying the $60 price for this package though.

Brendan Benson is a fantastic singer/song writer. Saw him live too and he was great. Check out his solo works for sure, especially his album "Lapolco" and "My Old, Famaliar Friend"

It seems the entire package is 3 singles from elephant in a box, nothing else.
They really milked Elephant lately...
It's neat, but I wish there was an LP included. 7"s are a pain in the ass.
