Obviously the future can prove me wrong, but as a Blackhawks fan I am not excited about the Hossa deal. 12 years is so freaking long. I hope they are not handcuffing themselves on future moves. I kind of think that I'd prefer the oft-injured Havlat for a shorter amount of time.
Actually 12 years is a cap friendly move since salaries 4-5-6 years will have go up greatly and the salary cap will go up as well, but Hossa will still be making the same that he signed for. But this only works if he doesn't cry and want to renegotiate in a few years (which I doubt he will, he seems pretty modest), and the other gamble for Chicago is if he gets injured, but the players today are far more health conscious. That's why Detroit locked up their top forwards to long term deals.
