I'm assuming that was Bob Dylan's "Forever Young" ? (Although wouldn't that be something if he actually played Alphaville....)

    First Millworker of the tour??
What the fuck is this world?
  • I'd really love to hear "Can't Help Falling In Love" from this show. Looks like a great setlist.

WOW! Amazing show! This was my first Eddie solo show and while I regret not doing more during this and other tours, I am very greatful that I had the opportunity to be there tonight. Thank you 10C for great 7th row seats!

I'll start with the crowd: There were a couple of hecklers, but it wasn't as bad as I expected based on what I had read on the boards. Overall, the crowd seemed very respectful. Most of the noise seemed to be coming from the back, and the 10C members around me would all "shhhh" Ed stated that he felt embarassed for the people yelling and that all he heard was that they liked to touch themselves in the morning, which brought out laughter and a round of applause from all the people around me. At one point, Eddie commented about the fact that PJ hadn't played the south in a while and I was hoping he would unoficially confirm some more dates but no luck :)

Highlights for me include Sometimes with the singalong at the end..(After Ed finished the song he asked the audience to sing it from "devote myself...my small self" onward. The atmosphere at this moment was great, with most of the audience singing along. Betterman was a great surprise and really got the crowd excited. It sounded great!

After "Rise", Ed told a great and funny story about his daughter before dedicating "You're True" to "the mother of that little girl." You're true is one of my favorite songs and this version was really emotional. Very beautiful song.

Let my love, Porch, Forever Young, Arc, and Santa Cruz were other standouts for me. Small Town was a nice surprise with everyone singing along and raising their arms at the right moment. Can't Help Falling in Love was also a great version, hell everything was!! I think i was just grinning from ear to ear during most of the show!

I brought my wife to this show who is not really a pearl jam or E.V. fan although of course she's heard me play several songs. Since we came out of the show yesterday night all she's been telling me how good of a singer Eddie is and how emotional he is when he sings live. She's also been asking me questions about Pearl Jam. Another conversion may be in the works

I also want to note that we were both really imprssed with Liam and Eliza. They are very talented musicians and a great choice for opening act.

Thanks for the good time and can't wait 'til the next PJ related show!

Looks like you guys got a great show! That little "Love Trilogy" is pretty cute, albeit cheesy. Ed is certainly turning soft in his old age/fatherhood. :)

Hey, everyone! This is my first time posting to these forums, but with all of the wonderful people that my husband and I met last night and with the incredible evening we had all around, I wanted to share what I wrote in my journal last night... My husband and I were born and raised in Memphis (no need for apologies, haha), so we know the ropes on where to go when someone special comes to town. We got to meet Eddie and the guys from Pearl Jam in a similar way back in 2000 when they were here on the night of the Elvis candlelight vigil (anniversary of Elvis' death is a big deal in Memphis).

Aaaanyway, let's get to it ~ GREAT GREAT GREAT show last night. Aside from the random screamers of inappropriate things at inappropriate times (which Eddie handled with dignity and humor), it was an amazing show. The range and tone of his voice was simply breathtaking, and his energy was something that kept the whole room on their toes. Liam and EJ were a great compliment to the show, and we thoroughly enjoyed them, as well. I ran through several different emotions throughout the show, which, to me, tells me how wonderful it really was. I cried. I laughed. I was moved. I was inspired.

Eddie and Pearl Jam will never fail to impress me, and as a long-time fan, I succumb to something my husband always says, "You will always leave the show an even bigger fan."

Anyway, here's the journal entry, if you're interested.

Great story! Sounds like you had one of those 'once in a lifetime' kinda' nights.

  • Great Show, but then I knew it would be. The reviews of this show say it all, I will add that Ed talked at length about getting to see Damien Nichols in a couple days, and how that would be the last time he gets to see him in prison. Very raw and emotional. I have never seen Arc live, and I was moved because Ed was. I never put much into the song, I know the meaning of it but it just never moved me. When you see him perform it live, you cant help but get into it.

A fantastic show, and a real class act afterwards when Ed greeted about 40-50 fans in the parking lot, taking time to say hi and shake EACH persons hand.
    Thanks Ed!

I took my 16 year old to see Ed. His first live concert was Pearl Jam in Cinncinnati 2006. All I can say is that Ed had my son for the night when he played Brain Damage. From that point on he was in the game.

The concert is indescribable. Millworker and Let My Love Open the Door were the highlights for me, but one could say the entire show was a highlight. It was a pleasure to meet Ed after the show as well. He was so cool to come out and shake everyone's hand, while chatting with every single person.

My first Ed show and i agree it was a fantastic show. What time did Ed finally come out and greet his fans?

He came out around 1 a.m. I believe. I was one of the first ones in line to speak with him and I was nervous! Didn't know what to say, but he did ask me a question. He said "How old are you? You look pretty young" and i responded that i was 22...i wanted to say well porch was awesome tonight, really looking forward to the new record, you are a hardass, etc. but thats all i could get out. it was so awesome though! such a nice guy, seriously. made his way down to about 50 people and talked to every one of them. the couple next to me mentioned that ed's version of forever young was the best they have ever heard, and ed smiled and said, what about the elvis number? was that one okay? (sincerely wondering whether or not this couple liked it), and of course they said oh my god that was FUCKING amazing!! and eddie just smiles shyly and moves on down...
the only bad thing about this whole situation is that when Ed started to come out, i got so pumped and left my SIGG bottle on the ground. after ed was back in, i realized I had left it, so luckily it was still on the ground (standing up). i think someone switched mine because it looks like it had been dropped a few times, black marks all over it. i was a little dejected about my bottle...but shaking Ed's hand cures all.

the show itself was so awesome. the highlight for me was golden state and porch. golden state is a really cool song and EJ sang it pretty well with him. and ed nailed the solo on porch, fyi. i also loved arc, sometimes, and let my love open the door. he sounded really great. i mean really great. his voice is still top notch, IMO. overall, was a perfect show with a perfect ending as I got to meet Ed.

JM174075, we were the couple standing next to you in line that commented on forever young.... and, honestly, that was one of the best experiences we have ever had at a concert. In fact, we discussed that moment all night and the entire car ride back home to Tulsa. The fact that he was that interested is one of the reasons, I suspect, that his fan base continues to grow. There are plenty of talented "muscians" in the world... but there are very few actual "artists" ... he is one of the true originals.

  • Great show. My buddy and I drove down from Ohio. It was quite a drive but worth it.

Get this.. 15 minutes after we get to Memphis, we walk from our hotel looking for somewhere to eat. We see a bus outside the Peabody Hotel. We walk by and Eddie walks out of the hotel. We said hey and shook his hand. He complimented my WM3 shirt.

Nuts. We had met him before (last year in DC), but it was nothing like this. We had a marker and our Into the Wild CDs in the car, but unfortunately didn't have them with us when we ran into him.

Oh well. Still have a good story that we'll always remember!

Oh, and the show was spectacular :)
  • Damien's wife and mother were in one of the side balconies, I'm pretty positive. His wife waved for my attention and gave me thumbs up on my WM3 shirt. I'm pretty Eddie didn't point them out at the show so no one would ridicule them afterward. Great to see them there.

Loved the show despite the three drunk guys sitting next to my husband. They were trying to talk loud enough to be heard over Liam Finn - not just for a minute or two - but extended conversation. My husband finally told them to hush up. They weren't quite as obnoxious during Ed's set. After Elderly Woman the two fisted drinker to our left stood up and yelled "play more of this shit!" In other words, as he told my husband, he wanted more Pearl Jam songs.

Also, when my husband told the really drunk one to shut up during Liam Finn's set the guy said "who wants to hear this shit anyway?" Duh? Why did they even come in and sit down? They could have just stayed in the lobby. Luckily for us they left during the 2nd encore!

I loved "I Can't Help Falling in Love with You." Several people later told me they got goose bumps. My first PJ concert was in 2000 in Memphis and they did that song then too. It was so nice to be back in Memphis almost 9 years later and hear Ed sing it again!

I just got back tonight from Memphis...so without details I will say it was everything and more I hoped. Really great show. I think I will give some highlights another time, just beat.

Bealle street is a hoot. Theres this guy how plays an instrument made out of broom handles, wood, and bottle caps as pickups. Its like a electric guitar with a bass string, it jams and so does he. Will post some info on him later maybe.

Dave and Teresa from Toronto (met you first at the Westin Bar Friday, PM me when you get a chance. I will explain.

If not, we still definitely saw some folks cheering once Ed got into the bus. Just thought I'd ask, though, since it would be funny if I got your picture without knowing it. (Sorry about the flash glare)

The entire Memphis/EV experience was so wonderful. It was great meeting so many people from around the country (and Canada) at the Hard Rock before the show. The show itself was perfect. The venue was beautiful. Even though I did not land 10C tix my seats in the Mezzanine were just fine. I met Rick and Pam from Cleveland before the show. They had seats in the Upper Gallery. When I saw them in the lobby after the show they said that their whole row had gotten moved down to the front row. How awesome is that?
The cap on the evening was meeting Ed in the Peabody lobby at 1:30 a.m. He couldn't have been nicer. I think he said something to the effect: "I feel like Santa Claus" because he could see how happy we were to meet him. I can't wait for Chicago. If that experience can come close to Memphis I will be tickled to death. Pearl Jam fans are the best fans in the whole world, bar none. I am proud to count myself among them.

For my first Eddie Vedder solo gig, I was impressed beyond words. I knew that I was going to see a kick ass performance, but he gave us more than we expected. Eddie is a natural born artistic performer, when he was singing, you were mesmerized by his songs and his instrumental playing gift; when he was just talking, you listened to every syllable with great attention and appreciated what he was sharing with you - some personal commentary, some political commentary, and crazy bullshitting banter.

I'm so damn happy I was able to make it down to Memphis, I had an absolute blast!

I also want to take a moment to say how impressed I was with Liam Finn. I never heard any of his stuff before 7:30pm Saturday night. Not only do I want to buy his music, but I anxiously await to see him on his own tour in the future. A brilliant performer this guy is!

And after 17 years of admiration, I finally got to meet Eddie Vedder and I shook his hand and told him how much I enjoyed the show. x100

I'm so happy to have met all the jamily down there in Memphis too! xoxo
