She was in town for the weekend. She was at a rally to raise money for a museum for William Seward, who bought Alaska from Russia while secretary of state, in upstate NY on Saturday. And she was being honored at an awards banquet for Independent Group Home Living Foundation, a nonprofit that supports people with disabilities on Sunday night.

So Rudy Giuliani invited her to go to a Yankees game on Sunday afternoon when he found out that she was in town.

No one should have been or should be fired. Not Imus. Not Letterman.

Um gee let's see Dave's a comedian and bill is a news analyst . It was a bad joke that was tasteless and It pissed a lot of people off. what did he think was going to happen.

Presonally it didnt really bother me. I expect to hear stuff like that these days.

Sorry man. Bill is not a "news analyst", he is a commentator. He doesn't analyze news, he strictly gives his opinion on it.

For the record, while it was clear the joke was directed at Bristol...it was still in poor taste. However, it was just as wrong for the Palin family to spin it into a "Dave is a perv who makes jokes about children being raped". I just wish the whole thing would get dropped.

Speaking for myself, when I use the word "pussy" I'm refering to a "scaredy cat". Not a vaginal reference.

I too love pussy and animals.

But I guess the PETA will now mount a protest and bad of the word "pussy"

Left wing hypocrisy at it's best. If this had been a conservative LATE NIGHT talk show host. It would be all over the news just like the Imus incident. and everyone on the left would want he or she fired and branded for the rest of their natural life.
I don't really care for Letterman all that much and,
personally I think the joke was way out of line.I also think Dave shouldn't be fired ,and I think his second apology was more sincere than the first. With that being said we got way more important issues to worry about right now.

If it had been a conservative Late Night talk show host they never would have made the joke.
Furthermore, it is obvious why we have no Late Night talk show hosts, because they obviously have a horrible sense of humor...
... and when I say "sense" i mean an awareness of humor...that while it was a bad or tasteless joke, it was still a joke and shouldn't be taken seriously.

You gotta give it to Palin, she'll flog it for all it's worth. She knows whom the joke was directed at, but she's just so shocked...and damn pleased she can make something out of nothing that was present. It's a talent to be able to do so, and the woman has that talent in spades. Too bad she has no political talent; but, she's a damn good liar and opportunist. She knows how to keep her name in the papers and floating around the net...for free. Talent, I tell you. Talent.

I completely disagree. You did not put your daughter on tv and parade her all over the country as an example of the supremacy of your moral values. In addition, said daughter went on to capitalize on that fame in her own right in doing the talk show circuit. She's been putting herself in the public eye ever since the campaign, even more so than her mother is.

This is vastly different from Imus. Letterman was making what everyone knew was a joke. We can argue all day about whether it was in poor taste, but nobody in their right mind would ever believe it was intended as legit criticism of the Palin daughters or some sort of comment on their character. Just a joke about a current state of affairs that the family themselves made a big deal of. Imus was offering real criticism intended to demean the athletes in question. It was intended as a slight against the program, as a real criticism of the team's make up and character, and there was no joke about it. In addition, none of those athletes put their character or upbringing in the public eye, Imus did based on his own prejudices. The Palins did bring their daughter and her pregnancy to the world at large. They're going to have to live with it.

The ONLY problem I see here is the mix up over which daughter was actually at the event, which is a harmless mistake he has apologized for. End of issue. Also, when did Dave call anyone a cunt on air? That accusation was levelled in the other thread and from what I've heard, he never said anything remotely like that.
Ding ding ding....we have a winner...

    And the winner is....soulsinging!!!
