    "nappy headed hos".............."slutty flight attendants"

both are degrading and equally so. i understand why imus was removed and dave should be as well, i am under the impression you think i am defending imus.

disagreemet is good..........but at no time was i attempting to persuade you to agree with me. i am only looking to understand why imus fired, yet dave is safe.

also......i think dave's apology was sincere as was imus's apology.

Imus lost his job I thought he got it back? So is Imus working or Not?

As for Dave, The other day on Fox News they were so appalled by what Letterman said how weak his apology was they wanted a apology from the administration. Most notably Obama especially during the election no one from the Obama side came forward to ward off the attacks on Palin and her family. Family is off limits and equated Obama's daughters, would he want anyone attacking them?

Well Obama's girls are exactly that girls, not an adult of 18 years. The President can't jump to everyone's wants and needs and he is going to burn bridges from time to time including from me too.

Left wing hypocrisy at it's best. If this had been a conservative LATE NIGHT talk show host. It would be all over the news just like the Imus incident. and everyone on the left would want he or she fired and branded for the rest of their natural life.
I don't really care for Letterman all that much and,
personally I think the joke was way out of line.I also think Dave shouldn't be fired ,and I think his second apology was more sincere than the first. With that being said we got way more important issues to worry about right now.

Seriously pfct? All the little things Rush, Hannity, and Bill O' have said over the years that we on the left have chosen to let go ... like "splattering Iraqis" (not soldiers - people), or the time bill went to a black restaurant and said they "are just like us", or Pat Robertson saying we should "murder Hugo Chavez"? The one thing the right is good at is feigning injury.

As long as Dave is making money for CBS he won't be fired (not to mention that I bet CBS would have to pay through the ass as far as contract penalties if they fired Letterman). Personally his joke didn't bother me that much since 1) it was a joke, and 2) he apologized for the mistake he made and 3) if Sarah Palin didn't want her daughters to be in the public eye and potentially be mocked, she should have left them at home and not dragged them around the US as a campaign tool.

Exactly, sometimes if you put yourself in harms way, it bites back and bites back real hard. Just plain hard to take, I always wondered why were they out on the campaign trail didn't they have to be in school?

I completely disagree. You did not put your daughter on tv and parade her all over the country as an example of the supremacy of your moral values. In addition, said daughter went on to capitalize on that fame in her own right in doing the talk show circuit. She's been putting herself in the public eye ever since the campaign, even more so than her mother is.

This is vastly different from Imus. Letterman was making what everyone knew was a joke. We can argue all day about whether it was in poor taste, but nobody in their right mind would ever believe it was intended as legit criticism of the Palin daughters or some sort of comment on their character. Just a joke about a current state of affairs that the family themselves made a big deal of. Imus was offering real criticism intended to demean the athletes in question. It was intended as a slight against the program, as a real criticism of the team's make up and character, and there was no joke about it. In addition, none of those athletes put their character or upbringing in the public eye, Imus did based on his own prejudices. The Palins did bring their daughter and her pregnancy to the world at large. They're going to have to live with it.

The ONLY problem I see here is the mix up over which daughter was actually at the event, which is a harmless mistake he has apologized for. End of issue. Also, when did Dave call anyone a cunt on air? That accusation was levelled in the other thread and from what I've heard, he never said anything remotely like that.

Pat Robertson got is ass handed to him for saying that and he should have, But that's alittle different dont you think. HUgo Chevez is a tyrant. then agin some on the left feel the same way about S. Palin.

    Besides that...

The only one I know that you're referring about is the comment O'Reilly made, again as always taken out of context.( and the right does it to ) I mean think about it Al sharpton was at the table with him. and if anybody was offended he would have been the first to say something.

Not only that I've been watching Bill almost every night for like 8 years now and honestly yeah he can be a little harsh somtimes but he has never smeared a politicians family member. I 'll give you an example Joe Biden's daughter. He didn't even touch it out of respect for the family. Yet remember when Jeb Bushes daughter was in all that trouble over some prescription drugs ? The main stream media had a field day.

The "joke" was obviously made toward 18 year old Bristol, but Palin made it about her 14 year old daughter in the attempt to manufacture outrage toward the the big bad liberal media.

That being said, the joke wasn't in great taste, but it wasn't the worst thing that I've heard.

But then again, I also don't think that Imus should have been ousted either. If you are offended by someone or don't like someone, than don't watch... simple enough.
