I didn't have the chance to read the whole thread but i don't know if somebody else noticed that eddie have the lyrics of some of the songs writen in cardboards hidden in one of the luggage, i guess that's why he didn't screw up Guarantee this time, i saw him reading in a couple of songs beside guarantee but i can recall which songs.

The handbills were very limited i don't know why.

    I saw that too.

that guitar on PARTING WAYS is called a rickenbacher (spelling?) guitar. I think tom petty gave it to him, but I could be wrong. It works well for that song for sure.

When I saw the guitar my first thought was that is sexy....and then played and I was blown away...amazing sound!

Thanks, Bulldog! I think that's gotta be it. I've never seen a white Martin like that before. Very cool looking guitar, and it got a great sound on that Bruce tune he covered with it.

    You're welcome :)
I agree! Beautiful guitar, in both sound and appearance! It had a ton of character to it. At Philly 2 Eddie said "when I pick it up, it always seems to have songs in it". Very fitting for such an inspiring piece.

I don't post on here often but I needed to give a special thank you to Black-12 for hooking me up with a 4th row ticket for night 2. It's the first time I've had any real interaction with the somone in the Pearl Jam community and everything worked out perfectly. I had 20th row balcony seats to night 1. The show was still great of course and the sound in the lyric was phenominal from up there but being that close on night 2 added a whole other level to the experience. We also got to share in meeting Ed after the shows which is something I never thought would happen and am truly grateful for.

Everyone else covered a lot a bout the shows, so I'll just add that the "screamers" were definately worse on night 1 than night 2. There were several points in night 2 where the screamers were obnoxious but then there were also moments of complete silence. Still I think both nights were better than the DC shows last year in that regard.

Two songs that gae me complete chills, The "new song" on night 1 was hauntingly beautiful and Arc on night 2 was the best that I've heard.

Now I just wish I could go to more shows.

Okay, I have to ask, you are the second person to post that talked about getting to meet Ed after the show. What's up? Is the fan club member that gave you the ticket a good friend of his or something? Just curious??? I was at 2nd Baltimore show as well. Awesome show and yes, the screamers suck as usual. I also caught his solo tour last year in DC and I have to say that although Arc was awesome in Baltimore, it was beyond brilliant in DC the year before. All I can say is that my life is complete now that I heard Eddie sing Trouble. This has always been one of my favorite Cat Stevens songs ever since first seeing Harold and Maude many years ago. I almost cried hearing him sing it, incredible experience for me. I only hope that we will be able to buy the soundtrack of this concert, so far no mention of it on this website.

here is what I loved about the show....he was singing really LOW....I love it when he sings like that!!!!

    fan me.

please don't yell at me, but in the beginning, his beautiful voice was lulling me to sleep. I suffer from insomnia plus I had some pain meds in me. I was dreaming and I could hear him singing and I would wake up and go back to sleep for a few seconds. I got up and went to the bathroom and took off my pain meds patch (no more falling asleep after that!)

The story about his daughter and the bear, as best I recall it :
"when my daughter was about two and a half I would play this around the house [Guaranteed], and she was aware of the story, or at least of two things, that there was a young man travelling, and that there was a bear. She would ask about the bear, was it a nice bear, a mean bear, a talking bear? Then one day I sing that line "don't get any closer or I might have to go" and she says "why did you say that?". I repeated it, and she said "I know WHAT you said, I want to know WHY you're saying it." she's two-and-a-half! I said, "I'm not saying it, the young man is saying it on the screen.". That didn't help at all. She said "WHY is he saiyng it?" and she has big eyes of worry. So I said (looking uncomfortable) "uh, well, it's about problems with initmacy and..." [ note : here the laughter was loud and I didn't catch what he said next, but he elaborated a bit]. Luckily, before I said that, I said "it's the bear, he's talking to the bear." (wipes forehead in mock relief)

Another great moment no onehas mentioned is when he pretended to write down the requests, said "yep, I got 'em" then crumpled up the paper and threw it over his shoulder. Priceless.

To add to the bear quote: "She could come to the studio with me, and ask "Wheres the bear?" and I would say "....He's not here, he's on the screen..."

I LOVED when he did the paper thing.... PRICELESS! Not sure if someone mentioned this, but when he went to take the stage for Encore 1, he turned his giant feet chair around, backed up, and ran and jumped onto the front part so it took him to the floor. He then continued to say "Haven't done that one before.... probably won't do it again."

Also Liam Finn was REALLY into Baltimore 2; this was my 4th time catching some/all of his show, and he was super stoked as the show went on! On his last song, he added to the song "Baltimore, Baltimore, what you do to me Baltimore" and looped it later. He ended the song by playing the hell out of the drums and then purposely falling to the side, knocking some stuff over... it was awesome!!

The first time my girlfriend and I saw PJ at the Patriot Center was the night Kurt Cobain was found in his garage. The 2nd time was at Merriweather Post Pavilion. During both of those shows, Eddie barely raised his head and seemed uncomfortable with the crowds. We both commented after this show about how much he has changed and how wonderful it is to see him enjoying performing. I saw the DC show last year, equally amazing. I couldn't help thinking that he must really love doing this to be gone from his family for so long (unless they travel with him) and it's so heartwarming to see the genuine feelings he puts into the shows.

A small comment on the shouters. In my opinion, if it's clear Eddie doesn't like it, why would you do it? Most of the shouters seem to feel they want to connect with Eddie on some level, but like making a pass at a girl who's just not interested, sit down, enjoy the view and shut the hell up. There is a time and a place and a small, intimate venue with one guy playing acoustic just ain't it. Save your energy for The Verizon Center and then go crazy.

I'm a little curious and would like some feedback as to why the typical crowd for both PJ and EV are primarily 20 something guys (I'm a 40 something female). Given that PJ has been around for almost 25 years, what is the attraction. And I don't mean that in a negative way, I'm just curious. I would think that most of this demographic would be into newer, heavier bands and yet every year that I go to the concerts, the majority of the age group seems to stay the same with a few of us old timers mixed in. I'd like your opinion or your feedback, if you fit that demographic.

Just wanted to comment on last post, I'm 48 and I've been going to see PJ for about 18 years and I'm always amazed at the range of ages I see at their shows. I see a lot of people at shows, especially now, that are my age or older. What is really cool for me now is that my nieces and nephews are all begging for me to take them to a show with my fan club tickets!!! It is so much fun to see young kids 15, 16 and 17 having so much fun at their shows. Of course, I'm reserving the EV shows exclusively for me and my husband and they are all quite jealous. Anyway, what a cool way to connect with the younger generation and also to see that they not only love the music but also agree so strongly with the bands' views on lots of subjects!

How did you all meet Eddie? I can't believe I missed that! What a dream come true! This show was just as excellent as last year's at the Warner Theatre.

Yup and at Philly 2 he said Eric Clapton gave it to him. And that night he was in town as well and Eddie told a story about how he ran into him in the elevator and got star struck!! Imagine that.....

bit late to the party here, have been on vacation.......GREAT show!
it was hubby's first/only ed solo show, and he truly enjoyed it. he wasn't very impressed with liam, but loved ed on his own. this was my second ed solo show - first being NYC 2 - and i think i enjoyed this show even more. arc was truly mesmerizing, and i was so pleased to get to hear ed play hide your love away live. we were seated in row N thru the 10c. not great seats, but not bad......waaaaayyyyyyy better than my 10c seat for NYC tho, so i'll take any improvement i can get ;)....tho i admit i had truly hoped to be a lot closer. c'est la vie. was so well worth the trip down to baltimore! thank you for such a beautiful evening ed!

I thought of you when some fans bumped into him at an aquarium with his surfer board!

Glad you had a great time! Every time I see ARC mentioned here and I wish I was at Ryman I again. Time flew by so fast...it felt like only 30 minutes that night.

Glad you had a great time, d2d!!!! ((hugs))

  • Hi everybody, it took me a little while, but I wrote up a review of both of Eddie's Baltimore shows (6/14/09 and 6/15/09) and posted the article on the internet in case anyone's interested in reading it. Aside from trying to describe the feel of the shows as best I could, I also tried to get into some detail about what is so powerful about Eddie's performances and how the Eddie solo shows offer a window into what is so great about Pearl Jam in general and why the band continues to endure and inspire. I also included some pictures I took of a show that Pearl Jam did at Wembley Stadium in London a couple years ago (which I used for the article since cameras were not allowed into the Baltimore show).
The article is posted at: http://web.me.com/chiefobrien/David_OBr ... certs.html

    Thanks,
Dave (aka "Tumbling Dice" on the PJ Forum)

picture in a frame is a tom waits song. it can be found on his album 'mule variations'

youre true is eddie's song. you can find it on youtube, but for mp3s i guess youll have to ask around

golden state is a john doe song (the band 'x'). eddie and corin tucker of sleater-kinney recorded a cover of it last year, and it appeared as a full band cover on pj's holiday single from 2008 (which arrived in mid 2009, so its recent)

Someone mentioned that that there were stage mics all over the place on night 2 - any news on a possible bootleg being released?
