can someone point me in the direction of the essential Gomez album??

Definitely 'Bring It On' and 'Liquid Skin'. Their second last album 'How We Operate' was a clear return to form for the boys. I have the new album but have not given it a good listen yet. They had a few albums in the middle where they experimented around a litte with electronica etc which I still enjoy but those 3 albums are super. But that's just my opinion. You don't win the Mercury Music Prize with your first album unless you a packing something special so go straight to 'Bring It On'. In reflection, some Albums have a cetain time/place feeling to them so it may not resonate as well these days if you are just getting into them but go ahead for sure and broaden your musical horizons. Love me a bit of 'Mez.

    thats really helpful - thankyou

Very nicely written song and great live. I couldn't find the full Bonnaroo version from a few years
back, but they absolutely killed it that day.

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Wow, good to see I was on the money with this. Please drag them to Toronto with you guys - and for those who haven't heard Gomez - check out any of their work - but I think their most accessible is their first album - Bring It On.

EDIT - Whoa, someone would rather Kings of Leon? Jeez - lets just get the Boss if we're going that route, not cheap hacks.

I can understand why someone would not be overly impressed if they aren't that familiar with bands full catalog. They've released 6 albums and a few b-sides albums as well. I find some of their best work to be the b-sides. It hsould be noted that they technically have 3 lead singers.
I rated the albums below with songs i love in case someone is looking to check them out:

    1. In Our Gun - Miles End, Even Song, In Our Gun, Ruff Stuff, Sound of Sounds
    2. Bring It On - Love is Better Than a Warm Trombone, Tijuana Lady, Get Myself Arrested, Free to Run, Get Miles
    3. A New Tide - Mix, Little Pieces, If I Ask You Nicely, Very Strange, Natural Reaction
    4. How We Operate - How We Operate, All Too Much, See the World, Notice, Chasing Ghosts with Alcohol
    5. Liquid Skin - We Haven't Turned Around, Rosalie, Revolutionary Kind, R & B Alibi, Hangover
    6. Split the Difference - Catch Me Up, Do One, Sweet Virginia

B-Sides - Buena Vista, Flavors, Pick Up the Pieces, Flight, Best In Town, Blind, Dire Tribe

Then why are you even wasting your time in this thread? You live in Missouri

one thing i'll say about this band is that they've done just about every sound. If you've heard a song or two it's really hard to make a decision on whether you like them or not. But to each their own

haven't heard them before...just downloaded their discography and I'm reasonably impressed...looking forward to it! So much better than a lot of openers PJ has...other than Death Cab, this will be my favorite PJ opener (but I didn't get to see the Black Keys or KOL when they were openers!) ...be happy it's not the buzzcocks...I know I am!

Has it been mentioned that they are featured on the Bonnaroo webcast today?

Please come and open for PJ in Chicago. These guys are great. They will be at the 10k Music Festival in Northern MN with Wilco and DMB. Would be nice to see them open for PJ though.

  • brian from scotland here.first of all, absolutely delighted beyond belief u guys are back in uk so soon.i was blown away at wembley when u ended with indifference (my favourite lyrics by any artist ever,i have some of them tatooed on my arm).
i am taking my girlfriend to manchester (her first time at a pj gig) she is very, very excited.gomez are a superb live outfit and a classy bunch of guys (no suprise that pj are associated with these type of people).i am sure they will find some new fans.
it will be a privilege to see u guys again and will be uber no matter what songs u play.i am sure u get thousands of requests,if we could hear BLACK LIVE! we would forever be happy.
all the very best to all involved at pearl jam and all of their families.brian and angie

PJ have always liked Gomez as can be heard on the Pinkpop 2000 boot (if I remember correctly) when Ed tells the crowd to go and check them out on the other stage. :)

Who is Gomez?????? Just a band that I buy full cds worth of music by. Their latest, A New Tide, is pretty solid, having three songs I really, really like, "Mix," "Natural Reaction," and "Airstream Driver." I would say that I'd wish they'd open for PJ in North America, but since the chances of PJ coming anywhere near where I'd be willing to travel to are approximately the same as Pearl Jam performing on an ice floe in the middle of Chesapeake Bay tomorrow, I guess the best I can do is wish that Gomez make a diversion of Denver this July and go a bit south. But, anyway, Gomez is pretty good. They've put out pretty good albums in the last few years, and have put out some outstanding songs that I personally rank as among my favorite of all time. If you haven't given them a twirl, you really should treat yourself.
