Just getting home, will post more after rest. Thank you to Robert for the great seat and company. Getting ready for LBC tonight!
Setlist from SD: "In the beginning of a change, the Patriot is a scarce man, Brave, Hated, and Scorned. When his cause succeeds however, the timid join him, For then it costs nothing to be a Patriot.” "In the beginning of a change, the Patriot is a scarce man, Brave, Hated, and Scorned. A great performance by Eddie, the quartet, and Glen!! NOT a great performance from the crowd.
After "Elderly Woman" I was scolded by a vederan fan for standing up during the song: "Dude. You're like 20. I'm 37. I've been growing up listening to Pearl Jam my whole life...I can have you kicked out.." blah blah blah.
Who cant help to stand up and shout during "I just wanna scream Hello" ? I'm 26 and have been going to PJ concerts since 96. This was my fifth Eddie solo show and I am aware of how you should act when a part of the audience. Then the same mature fan accused me of following him when I waited outside in the crowd for Eddie.
San Diego, you did not come through this time. Not being allowed to go up front for "Hard Sun" ? No pre-party fundraiser? No one making good noise or singing during the show (this is also sometimes known as energy)?
I'm super appreciative I was able to make this show, though. The quartet was such a great surprise which will make this show most memorable to me along with "Hey Fahkah," new "Betterman," "Fourth of July," and "Falling Slowly" with Ed doing just vocals.
Thank you Ed, 10C, Glen, EV crew, and most of the Copley Symphony Hall staff!-All that's sacred comes from youth.0

Last night was amazing! Yes crowd was a little weird.......some guy kept whistling at a very high pitch in the middle of songs kind of annoying, also behind me the people were holding down a conversation during some songs.....cmon! Was there with my wife, 2 couples next to us, very nice people. We were about 3 rows up from Sean Penn and family, was cool to see him in the crowd. Eddie's voice was on point, sounded very nice. Some of the highlights for me were LBC, Porch, EWBTC, Your True and pretty much the whole show. Glen puts on a great show too. Even the the crowd was a little off, the experience is as always.....AMAZING!San Diego 98

Ed was half-joking during the text thing. No one gasped, everyone laughed and applauded; EV didn't scare 2200 people. I think the Freud-by-numbers, over-analysis on this board is waaaay too weird.
Quiet crowd? No, we're laid back in SoCal - the applause after each song was loud, we're passionate. Bands love playing SD (over LA area, etc.). You don't need to stand and dance, even for a song like Porch, for that type of show. It's a mellow tour.
The majority of the ushers, mostly elderly folk, were Half-Nazi's. They ushered people well to their seats though.
I do think that the Spreckels show was better (and probably the entire 08 tour), in that, the mix-up of songs, production, et. al. was better.
LBC acoustic is kinda average. Every other song was killer; it was rad show, Siskels All Around (that's thumbs up, btw).0

Show definitely had a weird vibe to it from the crowd, but Eddie was pretty spot on. And Sleepless Nights was amazing. The show meant a lot to me for a few reasons. Primarily, my dad has been having some major back issues lately and goes in for surgery in a few weeks. He hasn't been taking pain killers because he doesn't like how loopy they make him feel.
I've been going to concerts with him since I was 5 years old (I'm 25 now, and the Moody Blues was my first show ever), and he's been responsible for most of my music tastes. I introduced him to Pearl Jam back in 2003. He's seen them with me 4x now, and never been able to see one of the Eddie solo shows. It was difficult convincing him that he should just come down and go to the show because he was afraid that his back would start acting up and that it would ruin the whole night for both of us. After some reassurance from me, we finally drove downtown, and it was the most fun that I've seen him have in almost a year.
My dad's 62, and was probably one of the older people there. But he was singing and enjoying the show as much as everybody. In his words, "I don't care how badly I feel tomorrow --- it was just worth it to have a great night out." My other favorite quote from him was "Eddie Vedder is the only person who can make the word F*ck sound friendly."
Just goes to show that no matter how weird a crowd might seem or how lackluster a given performance might seem, the music is still having a major effect on some people in the crowd. Now off to Long Beach with my gf, and Santa Barbara on Saturday!Kevin Viner

I thought last night was a truly awesome show - Ed's voice, his playing, stage presence, all were as good as ever, and that acoustic environment really brings out the craftsmanship of the songs themselves -
and I'm really not big on exaggeration, but damn, that version of "falling slowly" may have been the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. Seriously.
I also don't tend to rate a show's greatness based on the crowd's level of noise or action - I always figure different cities have different personalities, and people will just kind of do their thing...
Looking at the facts - an amazing and beloved singer and songwriter, who happened to be in great voice last night, poured his heart out for about 30 songs (THIRTY!!!) with absolutely first-class sound, lighting, and venue - with brilliant accompaniment from the string quartet and Glen - sounds like a pretty incredible show to me.San Diego 10/25/00

Well said. Ed seemed really focused on the songs last night. Falling Slowly was incredible, and Off He Goes and Just Breathe were personal highlights. For whatever reason, San Diego was one of the few cities where they didn't play Just Breathe on the '09 tour, so it was nice to finally hear it live.
Finally, if Ed ever asks you to go to a show with him in San Diego, don't. He doesn't have good luck with tickets. I think he's sat in the last row of every venue in town."You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

Just wanted to thank the 10 Club, once again, for the opportunity to take my bestest sister in the whole world to go to a show...
Like others here, we've been going to see PJ and/or Ed Ved perform since '91...
For me --- well -- it's always been an opportunity for me to take a breath, reflect on what brings joy to my heart/life, and live in the moment. Last night's show, through various songs and/or comments (as always), gave me that time for honest reflection...From "Can't Keep" to acknowledging that I, too, may "play" both characters in "Off He Goes," to being reminded a la "Falling Slowly" that I should try to win the war against myself, to witnessing an *amazing* friendship between two musicians who love and appreciate friends, family, hope and faith, I was, once again, renewed and feel alive.
So, thank you so much again, all at the 10 Club for making me smile for the past 20 years, and, of course, Mr. Vedder and Mr. Hansard, for all you do.......
 much love and light,
Emmake yourself a pact, not to shut doors on the past
just for today,... I am free
I will not lose my faith
 It's an inside job today0

Liked the show very much but seemed a bit sloppy. Ed was working very hard but his voice was a little shaky at first. Might be still recovering from a cold or something. Bailing out on Rise after two screw ups was disappointing but Sleepless Nights and Falling Slowly where a real treat! LBC was awesome but the solo guitar arrangement seems to be a work in progress.
As far as slamming the guy in the third row for texting "It better be important or get the fuck outta here" it was long overdue from any artist IMO.
Gotta believe it was an off night and LB,LA, and SB will be better0

Eddie was great. I cant believe how harsh he was at the texting guy. Put him in his place. It was awesome.
The crowd did suck. Didnt even stand all night. Not even for porch or EWBTC.
It was so bad I was singing along and I got a look like keep it down. The guy actualy told me I was Eddie so dont sing along.
 WTF
I had a great time and thats all that mattered. It was so awesome.
I love the Uke songs live sooooo much. WOW.
 Thank You Eddie.
Tonights are my 10 club tix so wish me great seats
Talk to you all latter. I was able to get the Cards for every one I promised. I also got the 2 posters for every one Some words when spoken...Can't be taken back...0 Some words when spoken...Can't be taken back...0

Funny, and true story. These were my seats last night:
 Row BB, seats 110-111
The tool who was sending text messages was literally right beside me, row BB seat 112, which was technically the 4th row, after the 3 in the pit. I am almost positive he didn't have a ticket to sit there. He was completely wasted, and on his phone non stop. After a few songs I went and told security that I was going to break his phone if he didn't put it away. As I am walking back to my seat, Ed goes off on him. The guy starts cheering...I wanted to say dude he is ripping you a new one in front of the entire audience.
Anyways you all saw the show and the opinions are varied...figured I would share my very up close and personal story of the "Copley Texter".0

If that's all that mattered, why do you talk about the crowd sucking, which it really didn't... it's a quiet show, not a loud rock show; you don't need to belt out the tunes. Sounds like you were TOO loud and annoying people.
Seriously, I'd rather have people quietly talking to one another a lot than listen to you singing "Sleeping By Myself" (or whatever) at the top of your lungs (over a low key ukelele and voice).... at least I could hear Ed that way
Shows are, 99%, about how well, tight the artist is, just like you said. Just, leave it alone, elitist superfan. See my review - great applause all night - that's what a crowd should do: applaud.0

The fact that the guy was wasted and cheering his own chastisement irritates me even more... my buddy and I were talking on the way back to L.A. about how that guy must be totally mortified to be called out by Ed like that, but obviously not... what an idiot. Maybe they should start checking SAT scores at the beer counter instead of IDs.San Diego 10/25/00
