Lets make this Seattle show the BEST YET!!

There has been alot of debate over the recent Seattle crowds. Most agree that they don't have the same energy as the east coast crowds.

I attended the last two shows in Seattle (2009) and those two shows have been dubbed as "lackluster" crowds.

I would say, that half of this is the bands fault. I was going through videos this weekend working on a DVD for the shows... And it is so true. Alot of songs sound unpracticed, sloppy, and the setlist was new song after new song, with a somewhat tight older song thrown in.

Hell, night one, they ended with indifference into alive.. When's the last time that's happened?

This tour it seems the band is tighter than ever, and playing the best sets of their career. So no need to worry about a repeat from 2009.

This time, the Seattle show falls at the end of the tour, not the start. The band is already on fire from the east coast shows, and I think it's up to us to do our part as well.

I know many on the forums have talked about going to Seattle for the show this time, and I'm asking all of you to join in and let's let the band know that Seattle IS their hometown, not the east coast.

There's been alot of back and forth here as to what equals "rocking out" so ill keep it simple. If you are going to the Seattle show, all I am asking is that you sing as loud as you can, and, really give all you've got between songs.

In Hartford this year, we took over and had the band, multiple times, standing in awe at the level of energy we had in the building. There was seriously a 2-3 min ovation before immortality, where they couldn't have started the song if they wanted to.

The Lightning Bolt tour is already one for the book. That plus this amazing new album, lets really show the boys how good a "hometown" show can and should be.

Lets make this a celebration of pearl jam, and us as a fanbase. Who knows when the next concert by them in the United States will be? Lets treat it as if its the last! (Because you never know what tomorrow bring!)

It can happen... Remember Seattle 2 from 2000!

This will be a great show regardless of past experience. This tour has already torn it up at every show, and we are not even into the 2nd leg yet! I have no doubt they'll be awesome. Not being from Seattle or knowing anyone from there, I can't speak to the crowd element, but I'm with you on us being the BEST possible rocking crowd!!

So what does a "typical tour stop" sound like?
Wrigley would have crushed were it not for the weather. It wasn't the band's fault.

Nowhere did I overhype it. I didn't say best show ever. All I did was ask 10c members to bring it and make it a great show with a loud, engaged crowd.

Don't put words into my mouth.

I'll be bringing some party to behind the stage as well. First time back there, and I'm getting pretty stoked for it.

Oh, and quick memo to the band:

Thanks for consistently acknowledging the people behind the stage. It seems to be appreciated every time. That said, if you plan to play us a song can you please keep Last Kiss packed away? I saw you play All Those Yesterdays once upon a time, and I think that would make for an excellent choice. As always, I put myself in your hands. Just throwing it out there in the event that my two cents have any value whatsoever.

    Thank you,
    Matt

What I didn't get in '09 either was that the shows ended right around 11:00pm like their was a curfew. This made the shows barely clock in past 2 hours. The 2nd night had a much better setlist and felt like it just got going then it was over.

The 2000 Key Arena shows went blistering late. There were a few opening bands and PJ played a 3 hour set that went past 1:30am. When people remember shows like that, you've gotta try a little harder to impress them.

I'm hoping they break curfew this time. I'm a bit concerned about having an opening band. We're seeing these awesome long setlists from the East coast with no opener. If they honour 11pm curfews everywhere.. they'll have no time to do epic setlists. I'd rather see more PJ than mudhoney.

Seattle is the last stop on the tour so hopefully they pull out all of the stops. Vancouver '11 was the last one on that tour and except for a few people in front being completely disinterested in Ole I thought it was a pretty damn good show. They played for about 2 hours 40 minutes.

Seattle shows are completely polarized. We've had some really epic ones and some really standard ones. Both the band and the crowd needs to bring it.

First trip for me as well. CAN'T. FUCKING. WAIT.

Rightly or wrongly with probably way too high expectations, I'm hoping for a 40-song behemoth of a show in Seattle. But why not? These shows and set lists on the first leg have been absolutely mind blowing. Why not that they don't just say fuck it and come out and put together a 40-song monster of a show in their hometown, the last show of the tour, and the band clearly attempting to challenge themselves live this tour. Clearly people from all over the U.S. and the rest of the world are coming for this show.

Nothing but good vibes for this show. All parties involved need to bring it.

I too was disappointed w/ the shows in '09. I had just moved to Seattle and was in the 100 section of the Key.
Though the show was mediocre at best and I myself was upset over the whole Target dealings w/ "our band" at the time. I found that the openers on that tour kinda out did PJ (Ben Harper & Relentless7, Jerry Cantrell in L.A., The Black Keys, Band of Horses)
Nevertheless 10 Club came through for yet again after I had emailed about always getting on the floor for every PJ show I've been to. They apologized and gave me 1 year membership for free.

Anyways, I do hope this last show in Dec. is epic as end of tour shows tend to be.
Also maybe hoping they play a song(s) that's never been played live-
    Happy When I'm Crying
    Strangest Tribe
    Stupid Mop
    Red Dot (w/ Jack Irons)
    Hummus

who knows? always a toss up w/ "the greatest band in the world" :D

When I made this post this morning, I expected both skepticism and enthusiasm. I am pleasantly suprised with all the postivie comments!

I will bring it too. I always do! I can't help but move and dance and sing the whole time. It's the best band in the world right in front of me! It's hard not to.

I had high expectations in 2009. Key Arena Pearl Jam was on my bucket list after the 11-06-2000 show. I was going to do it come hell or high water.

I will say, I didn't feel the shows were bad. I got a copy of backspacer about 2 weeks before the album was officially out and knew the songs. I feel fortunate to have seen over half the songs on backspacer debut. I also saw no way, in my tree, sometimes, dissident, unemployable... And these are off the top of my head. I have never felt "this show sucks" at a show.

But, I definitely saw the crowd was dead. That's why I said its partially the bands fault as well. The new songs, which were great, didn't go over with the crowd, because they didn't know them! Not to mention multiple songs were repeated both nights, mainly new songs.

So it's not that the crowd sucked totally. Had they played 10-13 songs in a row that the crowd knew, we could have blown the roof off the joint.

After this year, seeing Philly 1-2, Hartford, the band is in a totally different place. The song lightning bolt in Hartford killed! They jammed their fucking asses off. The crowds were epic. Song selection, even with the new songs, was awesome. This tour and the begining of that tour are polar opposites. That's why I mentioned making a DVD this weekend, the songs that weren't new, were played sloppily. Porch starts and finishes in 4:30?? What? In my tree sounded like they hadnt played it in 10 years. Again just examples.

As Zod said, the crowds really seem hit and miss. In the 09 show, he said something like, we've got places to play and people to see. The crowd boos and he says, how can I get out of that?

So that's why the 11pm thing stood out. No one limited them to play somewhat short shows. It really is part of their fault as well.

Back to the point. Not to overhype, not to think we will get anything out of the usual at the Seattle show... But I'm glad to see so many people are willing to bring it! It really can change an average show into a great one. Even if it changes nothing, lets try and show the band we are excited to see them in their hometown. Lets show everyone traveling there for the first time why Seattle is a special music town.

I know so many people on these boards are going to Seattle for the first time. This will be my 6th trip to the wonderful city since 2008. Everytime has been music releated, and, I'm always happy when I go back. I want others to share that feeling only certain people get ;) I hope we can all make an effort to make the last US show for the foreseeable future a special one.

Last but not least... 32 days!
