hey to all the hometown Seattle fans, we got what, correct me if I'm wrong, we waited close to 5 years for. Yeah the Showbox warm up shows before the VFC tour in '04 then the Gorge in '05 & twice in '06 so I think that's right...

Yep, that's right! Guess that means all this pent-up Seattle energy's going to burst into the atmosphere at these showsDischordVision wrote:hey to all the hometown Seattle fans, we got what, correct me if I'm wrong, we waited close to 5 years for. 9 years actually. They havent played Seattle proper in 9 years. The 2 Key Arena 2000 shows were the last shows. All the other shows were benefits, or at small venues.
9 years since a seattle stadium/arena show0 -
I find this very odd as well. don't they all live there?0
-
No, they don't all live here.
I've always considered the Gorge shows local. I've even always considered Portland shows local (I live there now) because it's only a 3 hour drive and hey, it's worth it right?

That's crazy to think they haven't played a stadium/arena show in Seattle for 9 years. It's about time for Seattle.0 -
shits gonna get crazy!"Well, I think this band is incapable of sucking."

Oh well, at least they have played on your continent even though it is big :P0
-
my understanding is they have had major trouble getting a place to play. Thats why it took 9 years. And now that I think about it Key Arena and the Tacoma Dome are the only places, real places a band of the stature of Pearl jam could play in Seattle. That in itself is bizaare.0

they played 2 shows at Key Arena in dec. of 2002
6.5 years ago, not nine0 -

I don't think it's a matter of the band not being able book a gig, it's Pearl Jam for cryin' out loud! They can play shows almost anywhere in the world. Plus they've been busy w/ other shows throughout the country & other parts the last few years, the side projects, solo albums/soundtrack & we can't gripe since no other city has seen PJ play more than right here :PU.S. / Canada Buffalo 1996 Barrie Ontario 1998 Saratoga Springs 2000 Toronto Ontario 2000 Albany 2003 Toronto Ontario 2003 Buffalo 2003 Toronto Ontario 2005 Toledo 2004 London Ontario 2005 Seattle 2009 Vancouver B.C. 2011 Seattle 20130

I'm not too big on my Pacific Northwest geography, but how far is the Gorge from Seattle? And do people from Seattle really not go to Gorge shows because of the distance?Yield!

it's about 2.5 hours away, then about 30-45 minutes off the exit with the other incoming traffic.
It's not an easy drive at night, very monotonous and there's a lot of deer, so you're pretty much required to either camp or find a hotel which adds $$$ and time to the trip.
So in Seattle you have the cost of a ticket
With the Gorge you have the following costs:
Ticket
Food
Gas
Lodging0 -

9 years since a seattle stadium/arena show
PJ's previous shows at Key Arena were in December 2002, not 2000,...musicismylife78 wrote:my understanding is they have had major trouble getting a place to play. Thats why it took 9 years. that's incorrect - the band wanted nothing to do with the management/ownership from Key Arena, hence not playing there all these years by choice,...To quote the 10C from Newsletter #8: "Please understand we have a lot of members and it is very hard to please everybody. Wow, had no idea. That's lame. Thought it'd be half hour tops from Seattle. You could go to and from Philly from NY in that time if there's no traffic.Yield!

yeah thats what I said. If they werent able or didnt want to play Key Arena because of the management where else could they play. Thus exactly what i said. They have had major trouble getting a place to play.
Were the 2002 key arena shows, true shows? Non benefit shows? Shows announced in advance and not word of mouth shows like the Ed solo Seattle show a few years back?0 -

the band never had any problems booking Key Arena during the last 6 years, nothing prevented them from doing so. the band simply didn't like the organization in place and, rather than working with them, decided to avoid them altogether. i'd say that differs from a statement that reads the band had "major problems getting a place to play".
yes, the December 2002 Key Arena shows were proper shows, shows announced in advance. the band has typically donated ALL funds raised at Seattle shows since around the mid-90s to local charities, so the "benefit shows" tag is really irrelevant in this case, since tickets for the December 2002 Key Arena shows were sold to the general public (as well as being available to 10C members) under the appearance of a proper show,...Post edited by 100 Pacer onTo quote the 10C from Newsletter #8: "Please understand we have a lot of members and it is very hard to please everybody. The 2002 shows at the Key Arena were not regular ten club shows. They were benefit shows and you could only get the tickets through a random lottery.
Hence, the last full fan club arena show in Seattle was in 2000.
Same goes for Portland.0
