My dear friend and brother,
I remember you telling me over a year ago, in a profoundly emotional state, "it's not everyday you are told you have cancer". Few days after you came out of a 10-hour surgery not only a winner, but wiser in ways I cannot clearly express. You started your chemotherapy, never complained about anything, you had a brand new smile and you embraced every moment this life had to give to you. I can now see that deep down you knew all along.
I bought us tickets to see Pearl Jam in Italy once your chemo was done, so we could celebrate. I wanted you to feel the out-of-body experience of thousands of people singing "Alive" and how the space-time continuum vibrates intensively around you when they actually mean it.
But we never made it.
The week before the trip you were not feeling well. We cancelled one day before we leave, you were admitted few days after, you spent the whole summer hospitalized and underwent two more surgeries.
You told me you missed the sea and two days later, a few hours before the autumn equinox, off you went, balanced as ever.
So it goes.

I promise I will sing for you the current one, for as long as I can.
