2013 was a pretty good year. They played 35+ songs in Vancouver and had to drag Eddie off the stage.
2013/2016 are the best tours in the band’s history so far. 3 hour setlists every night, full albums played, the ballpark shows, they basically played their asses off every single night and they sound the best they ever have. Fall 2013 took it to another level.

Yah, Vancouver 2013 was amazing. I think it's a top 5 for me. I enjoyed the shit out of it. Both Vancouver '13 and Pemberton '16 shows might be top 5 for me. Which is weird because that has me placing them above the four stadium show's I've seen (Wrigley 16s, and Seattle 18s).
I still agree the 2013 and 2016 run's were amazing. I think almost everyone feels the show they saw was the best. 3 hours+, giving their all every night. They had some struggles this year which they didn't have on those tours, but still eeked out some amazing shows.

I felt like 2005/2006 was like this. Am I wrong?

Nah. I feel 1998, 2005 (and I'll grant you 2006), and 2013/16 were my favourite tours. Unfortunately I can't really speak for much pre 1998 save for a short but energetic lollapalooza set.

I've been seeing them since 1993; I saw some amazing shows in 2013 (including one of my all time faves Charlottesville), and saw Fenway 2 in 2016 (and others). They were some magical experiences, but just like the thread today about MSG2 in 1998 and some other '98 shows, and some '95 shows, I just don't understand the idea that 2013 and/or 2016 are "the best tours in the band's history so far". To me it's almost like comparing apples to lobsters, there are so many different components to what made their shows incredible from tour to tour, but I don't know how baseball stadium shows could be that much better? The energy at early shows is unmatched. No matter where you were in the club or theater, or even sometimes arena, you were IN ON IT. Is that really true of baseball stadiums?
Are all arena tours or baseball stadium tours (and the factors you listed like setlist and length of shows) really "better", ur just different and all incredible beyond belief?

apples to lobsters, I agree!! I can’t wrap my head around one of the most recent tours being the best in their history either. It has to be the earlier tours.

I have no idea how one could establish the 'best tour year'?

I was just saying '13 was pretty awesome.
Yup, the quote I quoted was from someone else. I understood what you were sayin'.
I can’t wrap my head around one of the most recent tours being the best in their history either. It has to be the earlier tours.
Tours were better: before cell phones when Ed was angry In smaller venues Before keyboards Before the solo Ed section of the show when beer was cheaper (no fault of the band)
However, I do believe the musicianship of each band member is better today than in the 90’s. And Matt is my favorite drummer.
