I have to admit, my request to hear 'Smile' in Chicago may be less deserving than many other requests. I am 100% sure out all all the fans who will attend this concert, I am not the only one with a reason for a request. If I had to give up my request for a more deserving song... I would be okay not hearing 'Smile'.
Still... it would be cool.
With that said, I will continue to post my father's ALS Updates. He is a good writer... even if he has terrible taste in music.
This is a particularly good one... I have to say. I should mention, that while my father has HORRIBLE taste in music. He has impeccable taste in comedy, and has a particularly dark sense of humor.
Monty Python is one of his favorites.
While we were planning the First Annual Softball Tournament in his honor, he suggested asking a funeral home to be one of the sponsors, because... after all... it was for ALS, and perhaps they could "drum up some business".
If you've ever been in a room full of people who collectively GASP in horror. You'll know what that's like. Meanwhile, my sister and I fell on the floor laughing.
Tonight... we went to see the Pawtucket Red Sox play the Charlotte Knights! Drew Pomeranz threw a no-hitter thru 5 innings and my son got to meet Ellis Burks! Ellis Burks was the center fielder for the Red Sox from 1987 until 1992.
When I was 10 years old in 1986, my dad took me to my first Red Sox Game. From 1986 until 1994, we went to a Red Sox game EVERY summer.
Ellis Burks was the center fielder for most of that time... Meeting him tonight with my son and my dad was really, really cool.
You all may be wondering why my wife and I decided to go to the Wrigley Shows rather than Fenway. It's a fair question. I'm a HUGE Red Sox fan... and I've been to Fenway and Boston for games hundreds of times.
I've NEVER been to Chicago or Wrigley. Also, my grandmother who was a huge Red Sox fan from Lawrence Mass... adopted the Cubs as her 2nd team when she couldn't get Red Sox games on TV in Charlotte. WGN played Cubs games on TV down here and I used to go to her house and cut her grass.... then we would watch Cubs games at 1pm. Because they still didn't have lights back then.

Great story, this is what makes the Cubs community so special.
Another bump for Smile!!

Hope this happens for you, man. I had a scare last year where it was believed I had ALS. Luckily for me, they ruled it out for now. I do physical therapy several times a week with folks with ALS there and I can tell you no one puts up a tougher fight than those fighting ALS- and I have no doubt that your dad is an incredible fighter. I’m really crossing my fingers for you on this one. Best of luck.
Those Pawtucket pics really warmed my heart. That's what it all about. Whether it be baseball, music, etc... the ability to engage multi-generational experiences between families, fathers, sons, grandfathers, mothers, daughters, grandmothers are so special. I have so many fond memories of going with my dad and grandpa to our local Vancouver Canadians games (AAA at that time) at their timeless ballpark. So cool that your dad can share that with your family (and us by extension). This needs to happen! Smile for Bob at Wrigley 2018!
