Sadden to hear that Gord Downie, lead singer of The Tragically Hip has lost his battle to cancer.   I am one of many Hip music lovers to been fortunate to experience his entertaining performances.    RIP Gord, your music lives forever.

crying at my desk as we speak. oddly, I have had the Tragically Hip win in my bar since it came out 18 months ago. was waiting for a special occasion to open it. Opened it two nights ago after a great show by the Watchmen. Was going to have some last night, and something held me back.

Guess it was Gord, telling me to save it for tonight.

    STATEMENT

    October 18, 2017

Last night Gord quietly passed away with his beloved children and family close by.

Gord knew this day was coming – his response was to spend this precious time as he always had – making music, making memories and expressing deep gratitude to his family and friends for a life well lived, often sealing it with a kiss… on the lips.

Gord said he had lived many lives. As a musician, he lived “the life” for over 30 years, lucky to do most of it with his high school buddies. At home, he worked just as tirelessly at being a good father, son, brother, husband and friend. No one worked harder on every part of their life than Gord. No one.

We would like to thank all the kind folks at KGH and Sunnybrook, Gord’s bandmates, management team, friends and fans. Thank you for all the help and support over the past two years.

Thank you everyone for all the respect, admiration and love you have given Gord throughout the years – those tender offerings touched his heart and he takes them with him now as he walks among the stars.

    Love you forever Gord.

Nation could really use Gord Downie’s songwriting to help them process Gord Downie’s death

19 MINS AGO by LUKE GORDON FIELD

KINGSTON – Waking up to the news of Gord Downie’s death, the nation was forced to confront the fact that the only thing that could help them deal with this tragedy would be a moving ballad written about it by Gord himself.

“I’ve been crying all morning trying to process this,” said local woman Cynthia Monroe. “And then I think, ‘Well, in 6 months the Hip will have a song perfectly capturing how I feel,’ and then I remember.”

For 30 years, Canada’s rock and roll poet laureate has allowed the country to deal with everything from personal losses to political scandals to Bill Barilko’s plane crash. But he never wrote a song about how to deal with the fact that he is not here anymore.

“I guess there is always the chance he pre-recorded something,” said Eric Sinclair between sobs.

The country thought it was ready to say goodbye after the 2016 tour and final concert, but today’s news proved how extraordinarily wrong they were.

At press time the nation planned to honour Gord by listening to even more Tragically Hip then they would have on an average day.

well his next solo album, Introduce Yerself, comes out Oct 27th, and each of the 19 songs is about a person. Maybe one of them is about himself.

Oh man...  I don't know what to say.  :frowning:
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

Say nothing... just put on some Hip and enjoy. Wasn't surprised to hear Hip songs being played in American rinks during NHL games last night. A testament to Gord and the band. He was adored by many in Canada the US and Europe.
    Cheers Gord...Thanks for the music
