Chris Cornell joins Kurt, Layne and Scott.....how sad!  Another major loss for music!  I now feel privileged to have witnessed the Superunknown 20th anniversary tour.    RIP Chris.

I live in Detroit, they played at The Fox.  Chris tweeted pictures of the Fox Theater where he was performing. They had ppl that took videos of the show (which they showed part of on the news)and he was happy.  Slaves and Bulldozers was the last song with a snippet of a dark Zeppelin song. After the show he went back to the "MGM Hotel & Casino" where he was staying. Bodyguard broke down the door and found him on the bathroom floor.  Slaves and Bulldozers was the last song with a snippet from another song like PJ does.  RIP Chris, prayers to your family, band mates. friends and to us your fans.  Thanks for all the fun, music and now the memories.  You will NEVER be forgotten.

I have seen live the following singers:  Sinatra, George Michael, Michael Jackson, Micheal Buble, Barry Manilow, and Prince.  Even if you're not a fan of all of them, trust me... they are amongst the greatest male singers to ever grace this planet.  Soundgarden and Audioslave do not make my Top 50 Bands list, not even close.  I listed 6 people above.  Chris Cornell is in Top 5 male singers I've ever seen. 'Nuff Said.

I didn't cry about Kurt (until I watched the movie).
    I didn't cry about Layne.
For some reason, this hurts more than I imagined it would.
Maybe it's the place I'm in now.
Maybe it's the place I thought he was in.
    Maybe because it's so shocking.
Same here. I did shed a tear or 2 or Layne. But this is hitting closer to home for me as well. I cried for 45 minutes this morning listening to different SG and AS songs. I think with age comes appreciation. Not just for the great music, but for the loss of a fellow human being that we all looked up to and enjoyed so much.

Prince, David Bowie,  among others and now Chris. We've lost some of the best and most influential musicians ever in the last 16 months. What a shame.
I think for me, over the passage of time I've become more emotional. Exponentially. now I don't just mourn the person, or their music/art, as a parent, and as a person who suffers from depression who can sometimes fall down the hole of "my kids/wife would be better off without me", I think of the person's children. I ache for them. losing a parent when you are young HAS to be devastating beyond words.
For me, the older I get (and having childen), i found that I get emotional over things I didnt in the past. I have also been able to express that emotion where i wasnt able to in the past. I am now able to cry if something saddens me. And I'm able to admit that I cried to people when I wouldn't in the past.

I wish I knew how to process this though. Like many other have said, I just can't wrap my head around the why. I know over time we will find out the details. Tmz is reporting that Chris's wife said he was not in any type of suicidal state at all that she was aware of. So who knows what to believe. I'm still holding out hope that it's a hoax. I know it isn't, but damn...
will myself to find a home, a home within myself
we will find a way, we will find our place

I was just remembering his unique sense of humour and his philanthropic work for children around the world. His life was far-reaching and very special.

...And he who forgets will be destined to remember.

...I swear I never took it for granted. Just thought of it now.

Been thinking about this a lot today. Saddened deeply. Realized that I spent most of last night tossing in bed until around 2:00am. I'd been pulling up every live and studio performance of Hold On by PJ. Couldn't believe it when I woke up to the news. Those lyrics are really resonating right now as I think of Chris, his family and friends. Damn it!

I still remember that day back in 1997 when I was driving my beat up old '84 Tempo to school and I heard that Soundgarden was going on hiatus and supposedly broke up. This doesn't even compare and I'll remember this one forever.

I keep reading song titles mentioned by other people reeling this morning and each one is like a stab in the heart. His music was so thoroughly woven through my existence.

Last night I was numb but this morning I'm feeling it all.

I'm thankful they decided to do a reunion before this tragedy. Finally got to see SG about 5 years ago in LA after waiting about 15 years. Wish I made the effort to see them again, they have come around several times and I always thought I was busy, or over-budget that month, or traveling since they often came in the summer and said to myself  "I'll see them next time."
I know I take for granted far too many things.

Texted a very good friend at 4:51 AM about it.  His text back was the front of a magazine stating Victim of Death Hoax and had CC's face on it.  "It was on the TV this morning. . . CNN.  AP.  His website won't pull up . . . "  Told him that sadly, I thought it was true.  I was waiting though.  Just like everyone else.  Wanted to have him make some comment about some bullshit death hoax and how he was fine . . . :frowning:

Can’t believe I woke up to this news today. Completely shocked based on the band’s recent activity - touring, writing/recording new album, etc., and by all other accounts, he seemed to be in a good place, especially since the recent Temple of the Dog tour. Now, hearing that he tagged their last song at last night's show with Zeppelin's "In My Time of Dying"... if those words he sang were not merely a coincidence, but a precursor to an intended course of action, then...geez man. Heavy stuff.

Soundgarden is a band that was part of an overall musical landscape that had a huge influence on my own direction as a player. While I never had the opportunity to see them live as a band, I was fortunate enough to see Chris Cornell perform on one of his solo tours. While I personally prefer the “heavier” leanings of Soundgarden, his songwriting and vocal talents over the course of his career were undeniable. He will be missed, and my heart goes out to his family, band mates, and his extended family in Pearl Jam/TOTD.

    RIP Chris Cornell. :(
