I was there in Detroit (2000) when they debuted it live. Still one of the most powerful PJ moments I've been witness to, even if it was a rougher version. The passion was incredible. Bring this song back ONLY if they bring the passion back with it. This song deserves to be played intensely!

One last thing about this song that maybe prevents Eddie wanting to play it and I have absolutely no knowledge of who this song is about? Maybe the song is about Beth Liebling and it's just something he prefers not to relive?

I think that's an unspoken of consensus here like much of his writing from that era and the ukulele album.

^^^Very cool rendition although the ending is different from other versions and I guess that's what makes it an awesome version. I also saw EV do it solo at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago back in 2008 and it just floored me...I have also seen PJ play it once at the All-State Arena in 2000 as it closed the main set.

I'm going through a separation myself after 7yrs. Hard to pick between Parting Ways and Hail Hail. So I listen to both.

Alex: How did your friendship with Eddie Vedder come about and will it extend into a musical friendship or collaboration?

Pete: He came to see me play. At the time he was interested in developing Quadrophenia as some kind of stage vehicle. We became friends because he listens to me when I speak. I just love that! I also admire the way he lives his life. He values friendship and love, and gives those around him space.

Wait, it looks like you've seen over 50 shows and you've never heard Release or Present Tense??? I've seen them only 23x's and have heard Release at least 5 or 6x's and probably the same amount for PT...I've also heard the other 3 songs on your list...ok I'll stop bragging now, lol...I hope you get some of these songs before they stop touring...good luck!

My bad - that's my top five song list. I've heard Release a lot of times now! Just Parting Ways from that list I need to hear.

I loved the the 2000 shows when they closed the first set with this song.
They definitely borrowed a lot from Black Diamond from Kiss Alive at the end of the live versions.
