Its definitely something I dislike getting teased about. 2014 is a big Travel-to-See-PJ year for me and since I didn't keep none of those plans private and joined the groups on Facebook pretty much every single person I know that I have talked to in the last 8-10 months or so has made some snide or snarky remark or comment to me regarding my plans at least once. My mom has said some particularly hurtful things about it especially, but I do my best to just ignore the commentary. I did try justifying my choices at first by explaining that it makes sense to use PJ tour as a guide for travel to a new place but I quickly realised no one actually cares they just wanna make fun of me. So the best think I would suggest is just ignore everyone who has something to say to you about PJ and just enjoy doing what you want to do.

The snarky comments can get annoying, but i suppose ive probably been guilty of doing the same when ive been drug into conversations involving artists i dont care for... it happens, im over it. As for trying to explain PJ and my love for them, if i feel a person is open and receptive, ill go for it. Ive brought around a few friends, girlfriends, and even my father(who i brought along with to Wrigley, his first major concert ever)
Most people I run into think it is cool that I follow Pearl Jam around. I just explain it that it is a vacation where a few of the evening events are pre-planned Pearl Jam shows.
People fear what they do not understand........and hate what they cannot conquer.....
MINDGASM!
I am one of a few in my circle of friends that get the "he's a huge Pearl Jam fan" label - damn proud of it SON / SISTA / KITTY KAT!
My gf isn't so much into them, but she's been to a couple shows with me and has seen me cry to many songs. hahahah I just laugh and sing out loud with tears in my face for in those moments, life is totally 100% honest and beautiful and I FEEL ALIVE! Once, one of her friends picked us up in her car and she was rockin out to the Lightning Bolt album and my gf, after a couple songs and some chit-chat said "Rogan is loving this by the way." The driver says "what....", and the gf says "The Pearl Jam." and I gave some evil devil claws and screamed out "WATCH IT GO TO FIRE" and then we crashed into a godzilla, rolled down a ravine, burst into flames, our spirits rose to heaven and I shouted to Jesus "IT'S EVOLUTION BABYYYYYYYYYYYY"
My gf still doesn't understand even though we're dead.
being a fan of Pearl Jam has always been about not giving a shit about what the other people think, so to be honest I have never cared. But yes I am the Pearl Jam guy for sure. I never tried to explain PJ to anyone but my little sister. She never got them like me, but she certainly respects them and their talent. The school where I work, the students know me as a Pearl Jam freak (the 15 or so Pearl Jam posters hanging in my room make it an easy label)
By "explaining PJ to people," do you mean explaining the awesomeness of PJ to people, or defending my passion for them?
Since I became a PJ fan ('93, eleven-years-old) I've been known to pretty much everyone around me as a huge PJ fan, so I've never defended my love for the band, or why I have so many posters on my walls, and not many people throughout the years have asked, "why PJ; what is it about PJ you love so much?" If they do, I can tell they aren't really interested in the half hour explanation I'm prepared to give them, so I guess that sucks. I'm glad my wife joined the ride ten years ago, finally someone to share it with!

I stopped a long time ago. Right after I played Brain of J for someone who was like what was that it was badass. When I said its Pearl Jam he couldn't be bothers with it. Another friend came into our rehearsal one day after seeing the video for evolution. Talking about how it was so great and the guy singing was sick and sounds like he was ripping his own throat out he ment that shit so much and it was one of the best things he had heard in years. When I said yeah that Pearl Jam and the record is awesome you should check it out. He was like whatever. Consider yourselves the lucky ones who get it. I certainly do
Yeah. I really gave up on converting people awhile back. Really wish I could find a group of die hards around town to party with outside of tour time. Most people just don't "get it" and I get teased a lot about being a die hard PJ fan, I don't care though, cause they are the ones missing out.
That's why we come here. Don't bother explaining to non-musicians or those who have never seen them live. Pearl Jam was once the biggest band in the world. Vs. Sold a million in week. They are a deep, spiritual, philosophical band that used to be about rage, angst, and aggression. Each album is like 2 sides of that coin. It isn't for everyone. The dichotomy of Blood vs say Sirens shows the depth of the band. They can frustrate you at times with songs left off albums, but to deny the strength of their music catalogue is naive.
