Time for PJ do something totally different this coming album

It's time for them to step out of their comfort zone. Not even asking for No Code part 2... Let's see some sign of the times experimentation... Something that is a leap for them, whether it be a conceptual thing, using different crazy instruments or incorporating some electronic shit like Radiohead, writing longer songs, or just making very edgy music in a new direction.
We all know they are 100% capable of all of the above. I love every single PJ album, but it is time for this. Backspacer, while a great record, is pretty easily their weakest for me (In PJ terms though). That was a very comfortable, safe, easy album for them. Short punk rockers and some beautiful cleaned up ballads. PJ could write songs like that blind folded.
I REALLY want to see something totally left field from PJ that shocks everyone and lands on those best albums of the decade lists. I'm thinking along the lines of like Radiohead, Arcade Fire, maybe Wilco, or even Tool... Just modern bands, relevant today who have their own experimental edge with each album... PJ did for a while... and it is time to step back up to the plate in 2013 with another new side.

(Leave the electronic shit to Radiohead )
maybe, maybe. just trying to think outside of the box here... Mark Lanegan managed to pull it off on his latest album, Blues Funeral, amazingly... and I never would have pictured that

I certainly would love to see more monster riffs from stone... and even some of his acoustic slow tracks. Ed's are great, but Stone's acoustic tunes, like All Or None are a different level.

I'm sorry, but that's what I think.. and maybe that's what the band thinks too.. this would explain some decent but pretty average albums like Self Titled and Backspacer.. Hope I'm wrong though, and that the next album will be a pleasant surprise, full of "show stoppers"
Because it was freezing cold...

and will love the new album. I have no PJ disappointments. In my life I don't think
I can say that about anything else.
I love the idea of more instruments. The strings they've used, awesome.
I would like harp, flute, more upright bass , horns, and traditional piano,
some brushes solos too for the drums. Music is an incredible gift to give.
Can't wait to receive theirs
Please no...

as for me i really want the "slow" songs of the album to be Binaural style and not Backspacer style..
the fast song gonna rock live....

Jeff said in PJ20 that they always wanted to be a cameleon of a band and sound different on each album, like a Pink Floyd or a Zeppelin - let's see that on this next record! Would love to see Jeff involved more ona few songs to get a sound like NAIS or Sleight Of Hand. I also agree that I would like to see Stone involved much more on the writing and create some songs with that All Or None sound and feel. I would like to see Mike come out of the woodworks and involved on some songs with some monster, shredding solos because he was pretty much nonexistent on Backspacer. And absolutely agree with veddertown in wanting to see an epic rocker that they can play for over 10 minutes live and use in places where they normally play Rearviewmirror and Porch - they also probably would like this as a band when playuing live for something different and a change of pace. Like I said, I think the guys know and want to make something totally different this year, and they're ready to get in the studio and make it happen. They've had their creative minds going with all of their side projects for some time now, and I think it's all ready to be fused together for PJ. I think we're in for a special treat in 2013.

totally with you here... and now that you mention it, i totally forgot about 'of the earth'. if a studio version arises and is as long as the live one it can certainly point in this great new direction.

After finally getting my new PJ20 from the customs office, I found myself mezmerized by this performance. I´d seen it two or three times on youtube before, but didn´t pay too much attention on it  But now? The more often I hear (and see) it, the greater it gets!
So I totally quote all those who have mentioned before that it would be an epic thing to get a whole new album like that!!
Oh, and also:
Happy new year, everybody

I've been feeling for a while that PJ needs their "Achilles Last Stand" or "In My Time of Dying".

After seeing Eddie on his solo tour, he seems to be in a happy place in life. I also think we will see more contributions from the rest of the band which will make this album a melting pot of where everyone is in life.
