Let's Talk Binaural and 2000 Tour

Listened to Binaural with the Bose headphones the other day and was amazed at how great it is. Haven't listened to it in a long time and I usually rank it at the bottom of the albums. Now I am not so sure. Matt's best drumming studio-wise.

Also, been listening to 2000 boots and think they sound the best by far. The tightest they were as a band. Matt needs to switch back to the Ayottes. I've been saying this for years; they sound so much better and clearer/warmer. His drumming on them sounds so much more intricate and complex.

Any thoughts?

Been saying this myself too. Good to see someone else thinks the same. Binaural is one of my favourite albums that i own, and i wish they played it much much more. Was so stoked to hear God's Dice in 08 :D

Matt's drum sound is just insaaaaaanely good on the 2000 tour, i love it so much. The Yamaha just doesn't have the cool thudiness and that Soundgarden sound.

The NA bootlegs are quite nice too even though many consider them as 'flat'

Binauaral tour was excellent. The US shows had kind of a somber intensity to them (for obvious reasons) but the band was very tight throughout, and Eddie was in fine vocal form for the tour.

"Rival" and "Sleight of Hand" really grabbed me during the Cinncinnati show.
Watching them perform these two songs live was like being smacked in the head with a hammer; all of a sudden these songs instantly became my favorite songs in the world.

Pretty amazing how a live version of a song can completley break the clouds and give you an entirly new perspective on an album.

I probably play the Cinncinnati bootleg the most of any show that I have on record. It is by no means the best show they've ever played, or the best show that I've been to...but for some reason it's the show that brings back the most vivid memories. It was a beautiful summer evening @ Riverbend w/ a full moon in all it's summer glory. I can still remember what the air smelled like, and what the people around me looked like. I can close my eyes and remember every moment of this show as if it was happening right now. It was like my 10th time seeing the band...but for some reason it felt like the first time.

This bootleg holds a very special place in my heart. I think it was for this exact purpose that the band decided to release these shows to the fans. The members of Pearl Jam are obviously huge music fans themselves, and it's obvious that this feeling was the intention behind the release all 72 of these shows. These CD's are like a digital time machine.

For me the 2003 bootlegs have the best sound quality, although the 2000 tour was more more emotional.

I had the pleasure of getting to see them both nights in Seattle, the first night the crowd was flat and they seemed bit annoyed at times "Boise was better than you" was a great quote. However night II ROCKED#!

The 2000 tour it always sounded to me like a "farewell" tour a lot shows were really emotional and the band sounded like they were having a lot of fun.

I was at Boise and we were better

I was at vancouver 2000 and the last 4 shows of the tour (portland, boise, and the two seattle shows).

I think the Boise show was the best show I saw on that tour.. even better than seattle II. Its my 2nd favorite show out of all the pj shows I've ever seen (with gorge 05 as my #1).

Boise was pretty underrated I think. The crowd was insane! Seattle II felt to me like they were trying to duplicate Boise :)

Great tour... I caught 'em at Chicago at Allstate, which was sick, as well as in Indy... My biggest problem with Binaural is Breakherfall... it just starts out so blah... One of my least favorite PJ songs ever...

I went to the first three U.S. shows on this tour, right after Rosklide. I remember thinking the band was somber at Va. Beach and that it wasn't until the third show in Greensboro where they seemed to feel comfortable on stage. It felt to me, and I only base this on several bootlegs and TB2000 that they continued to readjust the whole tour, getting looser each show.

To be honest, I never liked Binaural all that much, and its only recently that I'm starting to appreciate it. That album needed to percolate with me for a while, I guess. I really like Thin Air and Parting Ways and I think Rival has a very different sound to it, which I like.

gotta love evacuation! seen the song like 3 times, 2 of which he messed up. Only full version i've seen was at my 1st show saratoga, which was amazing.

can't wait for the next tour!!!
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

Brilliant, brilliant album! I instantly loved it but I understand those who didn't/don't. I can appreciate that it can be (for some people) an album that requires a few visits, something I would refer to as a "grower".

As for the 2000 tour, definitely the tightest they have been as a band and the happiest they hav looked as a band. Sadly I had not discovered PJ back then, but a couple of years later I found them and they changed my life forever. I don't care if that sounds cliche', because they fucking did!
    In Pearl Jam we trust!

The Ayotte's sounded amazing, particularely the snare. That snare is one of the best sounding snares Ive ever heard, like a damn bomb dropping. His new snare is also a keplinger, but it HAS to be a different one, because it just sucks.

On the MTV Ten special, when they show stone talking on the couch I noticed his old Ayotte kit in the background all mic'd and set up. Maybe he DID switch back....i hope so, but doubt it.

I love Binaural, but I'll take '03 and '06 tour over '00 anyday.. a lot more energy from Ed than in 2000. At least judging from the boots I have heard.

I saw Pearl Jam in Chicago for the first time during the 2000 tour, and I still rank that show in my top 5 concerts of all time. It was absolutely amazing.
And Binaural is a completely brilliant, underrated album.

I would always prefer the boots of 2003, the sound quality is much better than in 2000. Listening to the boots of 2003 always gives me the creeps! A few weeks ago I only had the retail boots, no I have 25 of them! Thank's to ebay! Yesterday I listened to Mexico City III and it was really great!!! :o

Thats so true! When I saw Insignificance live I was amazed by how...powerful...it was hearing it in person.

Man do I LOOOOOOVVVVVVVVEEEEE the Binaural tours.

So damn chill. Katowice is my favorite bootleg ever. It's the first I listened to begining to end before I ever went to a concert and even though I've heard many since, it still is my favorite. It is just amazing, and I'm Polish, too!
I surfaced and all of my being was enlightened.

The 2000 tour was awseome. I saw them in Phoenix on Oct. 21st and Vegas on the 22nd where they played Crown of Thorns for the first time ever. Then I flew to Seattle to see the last two shows of the tour. it was kind of sad though there was this looming feeling that the band was going to break up. Luckily they didnt'.

I like the Europe bootlegs better but I do like some of the North america shows too. Best show I saw of those 4 was the last night of the tour, seemed like they played forever. It was amazing.
Let's see those 2013 dates in the southern states.

The 2000 boots are the most exciting and by far the best sounding, IMO. The drums sound great and the guitars are ballsy...something that was lost after that.
