edited April 2009 in The Porch
a friend of mine who has an inside connection with Widespread Panic said that both WSP & Pearl Jam are being booked for the ACL Fest this year... it hasn't been announced yet but if this does prove true, i really hope it means a fall tour!

tickets for ACL should be going on sale soon, and the lineup will probably be announced a month or so after that...

even if it's not true, the 10Club email about cleaning up the online accounts to make room on the website did nothing to squash the rumor mill spinning

the other thing is that ACL is happening about 2 weeks later than it normally does (Oct 2-4 instead of mid-September) so this could be a good way to kick off an Oct - Nov tour

i know it's been less than a year since i saw them last (1st night Great Woods) but i have been on a serious Pearl Jam kick musically recently and am jonesin' for some dates to be announced

    Here we go again...

And tix for ACL Fest are already on sale, they've been on sale since the week after the last one (when I bought mine!) PJ is rumored to play there EVERY year.

Nothing like waking up the day after SXSW and hearing ACL Fest talk. I love living in Austin!

I was informed by a reliable source that several floors of a historic hotel in downtown Austin were recently reserved by people who have been found to be connected to K. Curtis. Let me clarify that there was no mention of the band or anything, but several employees and such were really curious, and when digging for info. it came out that the people were in the music industry from seattle and somehow that name came up. And yes, the dates they were reserved for coincide with the ACL festival.

Again, let me say that I have not firsthand knowledge of this, nor can i verify that the hotel has indeed floors reserved for those dates, it is just info. being passed between fellow (hopeful) Texas fans. Whether they play the festival or not, I am sure it will still be a great show.

Lou, Arlington, VA: If you could have any artist on the show -- dead or alive -- who would it be and why?
Terry Lickona: Dead OR alive?? LOL...nobody has ever quite put the question that way. In the non-living category, I'd have to say that HANK WILLIAMS (the original, not Jr.) would be right up there. Among the living, the obvious names missing from our 35-year history include Springsteen and Dylan...not for lack of trying...but I've never been able to break the ice. There are so many classic acts, too numerous to mention, but it was a thrill last year to have REM on our stage, and we're looking forward to another breakthrough this year with PEARL JAM...but don't tell anybody... ;-)

ACL would be cool. I've always wanted to visit Austin, especially for a PJ show. But I imagine that finding a hotel room in Austin during ACL is not going to be easy...

it's actually not that bad. we usually book ours about 3 months ahead of time & it's really easy to get around it Austin. there's a pick-up location where the buses take you to/from Zilker Park.

last year ACL was announced on April 15th ... the announcement will probably be a little later this year since the show last year was Sept 26 - 28 & this year it*s a week later on Oct 2 - 4 ... i really really really hope this happens but i*m trying not to bank on it ... BIGGEST disappointment EVER last year clicking on the lineup @ 12:01am & seeing foo fighters & no pj =( ... don*t want that to happen again!

the early bird tickets were sold out in like a day last year right after the 2008 ACL - i*m pretty sure that*s when you bought your tickets ... technically they aren*t onsale yet for 2009 unless you were one of the lucky few that bought them then :D ... if pj isn*t playing again this year i*ll have 2 myself to unload ...

If this rumour ends up happening, I wonder if we will get an ACL announcement first followed by the rest of the tour weeks later ~ much like the Roo announcement last year.

How far from downtown Austin is Zilker Park?

it's about a 5-10 minute acl shuttle bus ride. it depends on your driver! ;) you can also pay extra to park at Zilker, but the transportation is really solid.

i'd suggest getting a hotel right off of I-35. that way, it's a quick drive to downtown & to the shuttles. there's ample parking available as well. they usually charge about $5-15 (depending on how close you are).

also, these shuttles run all day. so if you want to leave & take a break, you can. plus, since the dropoff point is downtown, it's ideal for going to aftershows.

ACL is a lot of fun. i've never been to Roo or the current version of Lolla, but ACL's lineup is always solid & really, really diverse. plus, the food is awesome, the beer is (kinda) cheap & the merch is reasonable.

if anyone decides to go, just let me know. i'll try to give you as much info as possible!
