Can we stop all the hating on each other here?

brianluxbrianlux Moving through All Kinds of Terrain. Posts: 40,722
Am I the only one that thinks there is a lot of hating that goes on here?  I'm not talking about vigorous debate or strong feeling about subjects.  I'm referring to the slander that goes on frequently.  It gets old, doesn't it?  Or am I just being to "sensitive"?

Peace ya'll.

There is a lot of it for sure. I think I notice it less here because I've been spending more time in the Facebook group and people there are MUCH worse to each other, IMO. But your message Brian is a good one.

    Thanks Jimmy.

I don't mean to slam on anybody.  It's just that I sometimes wonder, do we talk to people like we do sometimes here face to face?

10000000% agree, it's awful people's attacking aggressive attitudes, people are allowed to have different points of view and a different way of seeing things, that's where innovation comes from, question everything, look at all sides, but some want to silence dissent by trashing them. When you hit someone with a massive wave of negativity you have no interest in engaging in respectful intellectual debate

I feel like I've read this same thread from Brian before...like years before...

Kinda depends.  I'll be the same here as I would be in person...I try anyhow.  But if someone is going to be spreading false crap and making fun of kids that just had to live through a school shooting...I'll be the same here that I would be in person ;)

But in general I agree...we should all try to do a little more listening and understanding before blasting!

...constantly posting animated poop pics to others probably doesn't sweeten the deal!  Just saying.  Shit-talking in general, I guess.  Feels good in the moment but is ultimately pointless.

Pretty much everyone I've met in person from these forums are as they come across online - that's why we became friends to begin with.  I imagine the same towards myself, otherwise those fuckers would've shunned me by now =)

Just don’t respond. Potty humour is not what most of us come on here to see, I think.

It's just childish. Ignore posts you don't like or oppose it with discussion. No one wants to see memes of poop, Chomsky or any other thing you've deemed as an anti response to people you don't like. If it's offensive or harassing, report it to the mods and they'll deal with it.
    It's a hopeless situation...

For the record, I don't hate anyone here, I doubt the same can be said about me.

Also for the record, I would still buy the first round.

that's not true, they have never dealt with it other than to shut down the threads, people continue harassing even after I ask them to leave me alone, and nothing ever get done about it

Then I guess the mods don’t see it as harassment. Their advice tends to be the same you are getting here - ignore.

The facebook groups are also a lot better in many ways. First, you don’t see an opinion from the same 25 people constantly because so many more people actively use it. Second, it’s just more fun imo. Third, I think you get to know people better over there. The list goes on.

I disagree with all of that except for the more people part. The problem with the facebook group is 1) it's a fucking cesspool - so many trolls, too many people to moderate properly. So much vitriol compared to here, and 2) it's very rare that you ever see an opinion over that is actually well thought out on facebook. There are just millions of poorly thought out opinions, and then a ton of arguing a trolling after them, with a decent comment here and there. 3) I 100% think you get to know people better on the 10C forum. Less noise, less putrid crap, and far more involved conversations that last way longer, often years.
