I would strongly prefer new original music but choice #3 and saying NOTHING seems foolish.  Sure if they guys were to do this I would dig it.

I don't know. I hate to think of them in the studio recording a bunch of someone else's songs.

Voted that would be awesome but that's on the condition they picked the following tracklist

    Buzzcocks Ever Fallen In Love
    Patti Smith Dancing Barefoot
    Fugazi Waiting Room
    Therapy? Screamanger
    Clash Should I Stay...

otherwise I vote for a grumpy new music or nothing

I like the OP a lot, but what benefit does the studio lead to punk songs? If there's any genre that sounds better live, it's punk. The raw energy and emotion. It doesn't need studio tricks. Now if it were covering Radiohead or Pink Floyd...studio or nothing.

Seeing how well received Guns N Rosese punk covers record went over Pearl Jam need to stay the hell away. This is coming from someone that likes the Spaghetti Incident.

true enough. I recently discovered that Metallica did a bunchof Ramones songs (one of which showed up on Happy Family), and the rest they used on their singles for St Anger. Dug it.

the GNR core audience were not punk fans. they were glam metal/metal fans (for the most part). I didn't understand Spaghetti Incident when it came out. Now I love it.

I'm another in the "just give us something new" camp. The Brandi Carlisle song was ok, and if there's one band that can do really great covers it's PJ.

PJ's punk covers have been a mixed bag so far.  The Amerikan In Me was great. Kick Out The Jams is good. Sonic Reducer is the best. Haven't really cared for much of the other choices.

Back around 2012, Soul Asylum announced plans for a 12-song punk covers album to be released in 4 parts. Only three songs ever were released as a digital EP: Attacking the Beat, Love Will Tear Us Apart, and Shakin' Street.

    Love me some Shakin' Street.

That album was well received in record sales, but GNR fans fucking hate it.

GNR have 5 studio albums and an EP to their name.

3 are chock-full of grade-A music (Appetite For Destruction, Use Your Illusion 1 & 2)
1 is a half (fake) live, half acoustic EP (GNR Lies)
1 is an album of non-original music (The Spaghetti Incident?)
1 is an Axl Rose solo project (Chinese Democracy)

The only other music they have is a recorded cover of  The Stones "Sympathy For The Devil" and some live b-sides.

    Thats it.
And most of the songs they play live come from those 3 major albums.

I agree with you, but I don't think they quite compare to PJ in this situation.   =)
Take this moment to be thankful you are a fan of the greatest band in the world!!!

I'd like to keep the old punk songs reserved for the new bands to play.

Someone mentioned above Fugazi's Waiting Room.  That I'd like to hear.  The Clash, not so much...

Axl does have some awesome influences across the board----Queen, Elton, 70s punk, and even NIN and PJ

I vote "PJ's punkier number are among the weakest in their catalog, so they should avoid them. Especially at this stage in their career."

If it could be a 10" EP that would be everything I hate: cover songs, EP, and 10 inch vinyl. I only want some new original music.
1991- Hollywood Palladium, California with Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains -RIP Magazine Show Oct. 6th
    1992- Lollapalooza, Irvine, California
    Nothing since then. I suck.
2016- Fenway Park, Boston - Both glorious nights
    2022- Oakland Night 2

Could be cool, but it would depend a lot of which songs were covered. I'm not sure I have a ton of faith that the song choices would be awesome.

I always got the feeling they still have b-sides, but the format of the single is kind of dead, so they save 'em for a rainy day.  I fully expect a lost dogs 2 one day with all the left over tracks from the past 10 or so years.
